I thought this was a pretty fun flick for a Tuesday night random viewing. Yeah, the predator should've dispatched the girl and her brother with ease, but what's the point of the movie if that happens. I liked that fact they went back a few hundred years and other than the natives speaking english a bit too clearly, I didn't have any problems with the movie. Going in expecting to just be entertained with action and maybe a little plot probably helped my assessment though... :)

P1 & P2 consisted in a backdrop of a war environment (I will ignore the other movies in this series). There was conflict in the air and to our understanding the perfect hunting ground for The Predators. In AVP the Predators created conflict and threat (Xenomorph) so they could hunt. At no time in Prey do they show conflict or war. What we see is survival. We see a Indian Tribe going about their day killing only to survive. The movie is peaceful. People will say that the Predator will eventually make it up the food chain to humans. But even if it does where is the threat? There is no war and conflict? It’s like a Predator stalking and killing people walking into WALMART to get ground beef, eggs and milk! How are we a threat when we have to eat.

There was no Indian tribes killing each other, not white man killing Indians. Yes there are French Trapper but they were never a threat. The only became a threat when Naru went too far (past the ridge). You could argue “into their turf”. They just like the Indians used meat to lure the lion, used Naru and her brother as bait to lure the Predator. But at no time in the movie was the French killing the Indians. Yes you could argue the French were disrupting the Indians food chain by killing the buffalo but that is not war. You could argue that The Predator only saw conflict when Naru’s tribe ask her kindly to return to the village and she said “No” resulting in physical altercations.

There can be a legit argument that the Predator came to earth for some light R&R not wanting to get involved in hunting/killing men but rather the wildlife. In my two viewing I don’t recall if the Predator ever took the skull of a man compared to the first two movies that illustrated its intentions. All we see is a wolfs head. You could also argue this is why his weapons were light compared to movies of the past. It had no intention of killing man. People have mentioned that because it takes place 200 years ago that’s why his weapons are not as advanced. Yet he came in on a ship and still has camouflage tech?? Naturally if provoked the Predator will fight back. But there still a strong argument that the Predator was on vacation with no intent on killing man (hence the light gear) so naturally when he was killed his family would be pissed (end credits). This was the “E.T” of Predators folks seeking some much needed R&R.
I figures it out!! Naru used “The Predator” as a weapon to kill all the young, skilled hunters of her tribe. Her plan was a success (men all dead) and she is warrior hunter. But now the community has no more hunters to gather food. Chief can’t go out because of his bad leg so the entire tribe dies. Moral of the story: Think of other before thinking of yourself.

Was strange. Never seen that before.
a-dev is right it was very distracting took me right out of the movie before it even started…

I liked the movie. Thought it was entertaining and unlike The Predator, the plot is simple and keeps one engaged.

I also liked the Predator design and his weapons.

Some things did piss me off about the movie like for example how the female "hero" is actually the cause of the problem for her tribe.

And the CGI was lacking with the bear and lion.

Worst Predator design ever.
Were you the one who said it looks more like Pumpkinhead than a Predator? I agree, the human eyes visible through the previous masks always gave them a sense of being living breathing beings with intelligence comparable or greater than our own. The new one is too obviously a lifeless puppet head.

If they wanted to change the physiology so much that the actor wearing the suit couldn't have his eyes visible then they should have made the face a mixture of practical effects and CGI like they did with Unkar Plutt in TFA.
