Were you the one who said it looks more like Pumpkinhead than a Predator? I agree, the human eyes visible through the previous masks always gave them a sense of being living breathing beings with intelligence comparable or greater than our own. The new one is too obviously a lifeless puppet head.

If they wanted to change the physiology so much that the actor wearing the suit couldn't have his eyes visible then they should have made the face a mixture of practical effects and CGI like they did with Unkar Plutt in TFA.
Yeah I mentioned in an earlier post he looks like Pumpkinhead.
Take any generic monster and stick a set of mandibles on it and you've got this new Predator.

I'd have to rewatch the maskless scenes really closely but I'm fairly sure the only part of its face thst moves is the mandibles. They open and close. That's about it.
I watched P1 today. The Predator has a lot of movement in his face, not just the mandibles.
If ADI still can't match Winston's work from the 80's then maybe they should try your suggestion. Practical effect face with CG to improve facial animation.

I didn't like the new face design but it was definitely enhanced with CGI animations, it looked better to me than the later movies using awful rubber masks with those weird folds on the mandibles, aside from the face I actually dig the new design especially the mask, really sets him aside from other predators and gives him a more primitive look which I appreciate.

I'm sure if there's a sequel or other movies in different time periods we we will see preds that more closely resemble the original design, this feral pred is just another variation/race similar to what we've seen in the other movies.

Honestly they should just freaking deepfake the P1 or P2 Predator face going forward if they're so incapable of coming remotely close to what Winston did with practical effects.

Perhaps practical effects are becoming something of a lost art. I doubt we'll see anyone of Stan Winston's calibre again.

Rewatched Predators last night.

I really like it. Interesting lore expansion (I think they could've done more with it, the prequel comics shouldn't be required to understand what's happening), cool-ass designs that shouldn't work but somehow do, and some genuinely creepy moments.

They so could've made a sequel and refined as they went, rather than rebooting the franchise twice more. Same with Terminator Salvation (although Predators is better).

If Prey can resurrect its dead franchise there is still hope for Terminat…..

Nah disregard lol

I thought this was really good actually. Good change of pace with the setting and having it take place in the past.

The acting was good all around and there were some pretty gnarly kills. The design of the Predator may have not been my favorite but I didn’t mind how it looked either. Had a more primitive look which fit the film in my opinion.

All in all I’d say it’s one of the better entries in the franchise beyond the original. Not exactly the highest bar to reach but a good movie nonetheless. Definitely way better than The Predator.

I'd have this joint second place I think with P2 (P1 being first). I might want to rewatch P2. I suspect with nostalgia glasses off, this might shoot to first place if I'm honest.

The Predator could have been really good.

Just have Olivia Munn show up as a scientist to inspect a Predator, have it escape and try to get out of the facility. Have a cat and mouse game where Munn has to stop the Predator from escaping while trying not to be hunted down.

Shane Black could have taken a super simple story, just a segment of his actual film, and made it interesting. You could have kept the entire cast the same ( instead of military misfits, make them the cleaning crew)

Predator movies that work are small simple films in terms of total set up.

That’s what I said to my brother when he got married. 😂
And yes… I did the Arnold voice when I said it.

Like Alien. Team of scientists in a contained environment, getting picked off one by one.
