I'll tell you why, same reason why comics and packs of cards remain at retail. Sure, some pieces will increase in value, but start charging aftermarket prices on all initial releases and you will lose your fan base and subsequently lose business as well. I don't know if anyone ever colected sports cards back in the 1990's, but around 1990 a new pack of cards (LEAF) came out where they were chargin $6-$10 a pack, retail. Everyone jumped on board. This was soon to be the end of sports card collectibility. The common, everyday collector was ran out of the hobby because they couldn't afford it any longer, so demand decreased.

Personally. I don't think it's sideshow's place to increase the price based upon expected after-market speculation of increased value, but they ultimately can charge whatever they want for their product.

I hope this increased price is due to the size of the item and not a sign of things to come. Increase retail on PF's over $300 and I'm not sure how many more I will be picking up.

I concur.
If SS wants to make more money, they should reduce their prices considerably, and make a lot more. They would make more money that way, and more people would be happy. Win-win. Only flippers would be upset about this. $300 is still a lot of money to pay for a plastic statue. Lower the price by half, and a lot more people would buy them, and I think SS would still make more money. Most people think that $200 is too much to pay for a statue, but would be willing to pay $90 if it was really nice. The only reason why they are so high in the first place IMO is because of how high the prices go in the secondary market. Compared to how much most other things cost in the world, the value of the dollar in comic collectibles is horrible. You get like 20% of the value of your money compared to the cost of production. It's almost completely absurd. When I tell people how much some of these things cost, they say, HOW MUCH??? FOR THAT??? No way! Its worth maybe 1/5th that.

Well,

after reading the feedback to my posting on why SS is selling the Bong-ination for $500, I now have come to the conclusion that my opinion, while SS can still sell for whatever they want, was for the most part......wrong.

For me it's more about the piece then the price although price does matter and $500 is about near my max.

This figure, while an impressive looking one indeed, isn't on my list of must have PFs (another IM, Wolverine, DD, modern Hulk, Cyclops, Nick Fury are)

If it was, I would've bought it, even at $500 and maybe a little more.

And why the Thing keeps getting dissed is beyond me. I think he looks awesome next to my Hulk, a great companion piece. Yeah i'm sure the Abom will look pretty kick ass but that's no reason to dismiss the Thing PF.

Ugh. Some of you are ^^^^ing talking because you can. Unbelivable sometimes.

Hellboy (1st PF)
21" H (533.4mm)-11lbs-$250.00
Hellboy (Golden Army PF)
22" H (558.8mm) x 14" L (355.6mm) x 12" D (304.8mm) 18lbs-$324.99

A difference of $74 roughly from the first the next...a price increase from the first because its heavier, wider and even close to the same height.

Abomination
23" H (584.2mm) x 24" W (609.6mm) x 20" D (508mm)-$499.99
Hulk Grey
20" H (508mm) x 18" W (457.2mm) x 16" D (406.4mm)-$424.99
Both 35 pounds

A price difference of *gasp* $75!?!? For something heavier, taller and wider?!?! Hulk Green was $324.99 which means originally it was a price difference of a $100 for a grey paintjob and blue pants!??!!?

Not to mention even the Universal Monsters which have been some of the most affordable licensed pieces has had increases.

Frankenstein (1st PF)
24.00" H (609.6mm) x 12.00" W (304.8mm) x 12.00" L (304.8mm)-$250.00
Frankenstein (Bride accompaniment)
20" H (508mm) x 10" W (254mm) x 9" D (228.6mm)-$274.99

and that one went down in size, down in width and down in diameter.

This hobby is elitist from the beginning, 1/6 figures, dolls to most people are going for over $100 some into the $200. Statues already in the $300/$400s and people are scoffing at this? :lol

dido, and second that :clap

i was in shock the first time i saw the price on this one, but after looking at the size compared to the hulk, and how much the grey hulk cost (because of it's lower es compared to the green) i thought this amount was quite reasonable imo.

i can't wait to see some shipping quotes on this one.

My total for it was $571.

I agree with the Mike on this one as well.

Once I saw the size of the Abom...

I said.....

"Holy Crap he's HUGE!"

Even if I bought him I would be having hard time fitting him anywhere!

Isn't that awesome! That's an awesome problem to have.

The size is impressive and the increase in price does make sense based on that alone.

Thank You

like I told you, I'm in Canada. So there you go :

500$ + approx. 130$ shipping + 100$ customs at the door.

total: +/- 730$

And I dont care. This will Probably be one of the most impressive Sideshow PF ever...And I'm a big fan of Hulk's arch nemesis....

Are you a fan to where you have to own a tiny, puny firehydrant as the exclusive? or a fan of the character itself? If so...

You could always wait it out and get the regular for much cheaper. I also have a feeling there will be a International variant with darker skin.

Scalping helped put an end to that market. It was near impossible being a completest of cards. SS rasing the prices is one way to combat it.

We just need two fools over-bidding each other over $1,000 on eBay to get this piece in that direction LOL. I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen...it's not impossible to see this statue over $,000 - a minimum of two fools can make it happen :)

Who's going to volunteer as the two? :) I'll volunteer and bid $1,000. I just need someone to outbid :)
