Until the ES is revealed for the regular we won't know what the deal is with all this grail/profit talk. The ES for the EX can be under 250 and it won't matter if they make 1000 regulars.

yeah i agree to a point, but the regular es is mostly made up of dealer orders, and i can't see many dealers trying to sell this bug sucker.

grail talk? I only see you mentioning such a thing.

IMO, it's a great sculpt, but Thing may have company. Esp with this being near $250 more than him.

ES will be around 500 my tought.

The Sabretooth LSB sold out quicker than this did. I am thinking 175-250 (too much).

You mean you don't see all the ridiculous posts about how those that pass now will regret it later? They must only be showing up in my computer then. :lol

I never said this was a grail. I do say that Sideshow will release a paint variant for this thing at some point. It's just too easy to do for another money grab. I'll go as far as saying that when they do it'll be an "IN STOCK" product.

This will NOT be a grail. The reality is that people are hunting the next Doom PF or X-Men vs Sentinel #1 for monitary and bragging rights. So many people hunting them down in every single line not just Marvel proves that they create an unnatural inflation of the product edition sizes therefore ironically destroying the chance of a Grail status, which for all intents and purposes is a piece that is widely sought after, that few actually have and the secondary market price heads towards ridiculous amounts. This will not fall in that category just like Captain America or Thor or any other piece that was ordered that people went nuts over.

What this will be is an amazing statue, well sculpted, hopefully well executed and a much better companion for any of the two Hulks than the Thing ever was and something that will probably be worth every dime paid for it. I can't wait for mine.

I don't forsee anyone paying $200 extra for a Pimp Fire Hydrant in the future. I just don't.

I still don't see why Shai is freaking out about this PF. Wouldn't it be the only SSC piece he would own?

I still got green Hulk here dude....:monkey1

Maybe, and it's a big MAYBE, Sideshow is trying something new here. Is it possible that they're trying to weed out the flippers?
I mean it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to start producing $500 statues with the economy in the shape that it is. For the life of me, I can't understand the reasoning behind it. I would also think that they would want to cut prices and keep buyer loyalty, if anything. Comparing Bowen and Sideshow is like apples to oranges for a quite a few collectors, but if SSC drops many more PFs/comiquettes at the $400-500+ level, they might find themselves losing a fairly good portion of their business.

I don't blame SS for increasing their PF price.

While everyone here has been affected in one way or another, around the world, by the economical crisis, we all have a PF in us that we would sacrifice many other things so that it can be purchased.

So why should SS sit there and watch as their $200, $300 and $400 merchandise re-sells for $500-$1,500.

You don't think SS is well aware that their Dooms, Hulks and Iron Mans are selling for a-lot more than what SS sold them for.

If I was SS, I would definately increase the price of my merchandise.

They know that there are people who will pay regardless of the economy.

I know I would if it's for something I really wanted.

I'm sure this piece will be worth every dollar. I really think Sideshow made this with the true Hulk fan in mind.

I'm curious, does a lower ES come with a higher price tag? I was under the assumption those two go hand in hand. We may be looking at a low number guys.

This is a misconception had by many here. SSC has no real control save slicing an ES to a really low number in the secondary market value. What drives secondary market values are people like us to give it that "must have" status. Doom sat on SSC's shelves forever before selling out what drove the prices amazingly high was seeing here and on multiple other boards how its a must have Marvel piece in one's collections. People continue to bid on eBay and once the price finishes that becomes the new mark to start selling things at. The secondary market is extrememly fickle and there have been dozens of times where a Doom PF finished at $1500, then another tried to sell at even $1300 and sat there with no movement. People get caught up in the auction process many times spending more than what they ever would have at standard retail purchase.

The Hulk PF Green was found under retail for a few months after its release. The original Spider-Man PF which has had an impressive surge lately was found even a couple of years ago under $200 and it has gone as high as $600.

The only way something gains that kind of clout is if it gets into enough collector's hand to gain that positive buzz. We all know the Bronze Vader is an elitist piece and at $18,000 you won't see too many people clammering over it on the secondary market, the bar is already set to high.

Its a double edged sword that Sideshow in reality can't afford to play. Raise the price too high and people won't buy because they can't and then you have product that sits on your shelves for years (Van Helsing PF anyone?) essentially losing you money at every turn. Keep the price too low and you lose out on the profit margin as cost of materials and such continue to rise.

I guarantee you Sideshow's decision to raise prices has to do more with making the same average amount from Marvel PFs in the past considering licensing and cost of materials adjusted for this day and age. Not with the company trying to take a piece of the secondary market pie by adjusting to gain some of the funds that are potentially out there.

Absolutely they go hand in hand. It costs more to make less than more because of factory costs etc. If they made 10,000 they could keep the prices lower respectively considering costs but if you make 500 you still have to pay the same factory costs so you have to charge more to recoup the money spent while still making a profit.

Using this logic, which absolutely makes sense, I would guess that there would be a fairly low ES for both versions of this piece. You start with a big piece that would likely require more time for paint application and if you factor in a small order from the factory, it only makes sense that the price would be significantly more than other comparable pieces.

If both versions do end up with small edition sizes, does that mean that Sideshow determines the number prior to taking orders or was it just this piece? I guess only time will tell.

I agree with this logic!

Not just limited to SS, I also think comics publishers should increase their prices from $3 a comic to $20-$30 per comic. Or even $200-$300, since everyone knows that there are comics that originally sold for a few cents that are now selling for hundreds or thousands of dollars!

If I were a comics publisher, I would definately increase the prices.

They know that there are people who will pay hundreds of dollars for one comic.

I know I would if it was a comic I really wanted.

:lol

Like with any business, discount is given when a higher quantity order is placed. For example, the factory in China can produce 500 quantity for $200 each. However, if an order of 1000 quantity, then they'll charge $150 each as a discount.

I don't think Sideshow cares about what happens to the price aftermarket. If they price it too high, then they'll scared collectors away. Their main concern is to be able to sell out completely than keeping un-sold product in the warehouse. Space in warehouse = wasted $$$ each day.

Yeah, Sideshow might have been able to price the Abomination at $350 but they'll need to produce 2,000 quantity of it. In this economy, I doubt they'll be able to sell that many quantity. So maybe that's why they don't see themselves selling that many in this economy. Hence, a lower quantity with higher price. They know people will play the game of ordering and canceling later based on the edition size. They do not want to be stuck with an inventory.

So, we might see lower ES with higher premium price going forward until the economy becomes better. More and more people will not be able to buy $300 or even $200 statues for awhile.

I'll tell you why, same reason why comics and packs of cards remain at retail. Sure, some pieces will increase in value, but start charging aftermarket prices on all initial releases and you will lose your fan base and subsequently lose business as well. I don't know if anyone ever colected sports cards back in the 1990's, but around 1990 a new pack of cards (LEAF) came out where they were chargin $6-$10 a pack, retail. Everyone jumped on board. This was soon to be the end of sports card collectibility. The common, everyday collector was ran out of the hobby because they couldn't afford it any longer, so demand decreased.

Personally. I don't think it's sideshow's place to increase the price based upon expected after-market speculation of increased value, but they ultimately can charge whatever they want for their product.

I hope this increased price is due to the size of the item and not a sign of things to come. Increase retail on PF's over $300 and I'm not sure how many more I will be picking up.
