It really shouldn't be that complicated... if you like it and you can afford it, you buy it and enjoy it. If you don't like it and/or you can't afford it, you don't buy it and reflect at how much you suck at life/what a failure you are for missing such an awesome piece OR rub it in everyone's face who overpaid when they could have waited to use a gift card.
It's your choice and the result really depends on the piece.
