Well I guess that's in the eye of the beholder. It looked and felt like that awful "mother" promo. Or the pre-Cryogenic last supper promo. I guess if you thought those looked great then you won't be disappointed with this. And the whole second half felt like an old fake stone studio based Star Trek shoot, because it was.
The ship shots in Prometheus were absolutely gorgeous. These looked incredibly uninspiring IMO.
And the cgi creatures were as wonky as **** at times.

They changed the vfx team for budgetary reasons and it showed.

It was ugly to you maybe because your screen had a problem?

Whoa... were they that big in Alien?
I knew they looked too small in Prometheus, but never paid much attention to the scale in the first movie.

What did you think of the performances? I thought that McBride was surprisingly the second strongest performance :lol first one being Fassbender obviously.

I thought Dr Manhattan would be the second best performance but he was a bit stiff, maybe that's why he was cast as Dr. Manhattan.

I thought there was a huge devide in quality. On one side we had Fassbender who literally saved the movie, and I thought Crudup was brilliant but under used, McBride was fine.

Then on the other side we had everyone else who were TV poor, not Netflick, HBO poor but Syfy poor.
:lol

:lol

Remember that beautiful "Deacon birth" at the end of Prometheus?
You couldn't tell what was practical and what was CG, it was actually a combo.
My point is, there isn't one shot in Covenent like that. The CG is interesting at times because the creatures are cool and the gore is fun,
But it's crude in comparison.

Compare those beautifully composed landing shots from Prometheus to this. Yikes.
I recommend anyone who hasn't watched Prometheus in a while to watch it before this.

And one final gripe, they practically reshot the silica storm rescue from Prometheus for the end of this movie.
Except there are CG glass particles flying around and it looks like AVPR or a tv show.
I think Scott forgot the movie wasn't 3D.

Now don't get me wrong I really enjoyed a few moments in Covenant.
But the whole thing was trash. Hated the camera work, the lighting, the secondary action, the second half of the script was a dull and ******.
And the surprise? Well if you didn't see that coming 45 minutes earlier than I guess this movie is for you.
:lol

I would agree that the "twist" was an obvious one a long time before it came about.

And that's a really good example of my problems with the movie. If that had been paced, acted and edited properly it wouldn't have been as obvious.
Even the "reveal" didn't ring true because "what's her face" isn't a good actor.

David apparently kills Walter and takes his place putting the entire crew into hyper sleep knowing he is going to infect everyone on the ship. Which is not explained properly and as obvious as **** when you are watching it. Even though the last line is great. Daniels ruins the scene as she ruins most of her scenes with her annoying "distressed" face.

Sadly everything you said is true.
What I couldn't understand was how Mother could detect a 'foreign' life form on the ship but couldn't tell the difference between David and Walter. The film spent so long setting up the differences between them (different model, personality and the fact that David could create but Walter could not) yet nothing from Mother (a computer that would not be fooled by physical appearances), no warning ... Nothing?! The twist was so scripted that I thought they were going to pull a double bluff on us or at least try something different to 'surprise' the audience but I was wrong.

How stupid are Daniels and Tennessee that they didn't think to question the Fassbender android to find out whether he was his evil twin. Cyclops wasted no time in X-men 1 testing Wolverine to make sure it wasn't mystique and that was during a battle. Instead she leaves Fassbender at the controls of the ship whilst she goes off to take a nap ... Madness. When the protagonists are that reckless you can't help but think maybe David was right and the humans deserve their extinction that he is planning.

That's an interesting point and one you could argue was intentional but that would be just covering for lazy writing lol.

Whats the surprise?

nothing you can't see a mile and a half away. I've not even seen the movie yet and could pretty much GUESS the outcome when they had the dual roles thing....

That a Scott alien movie doesn't look and sound fantastic.

:rotfl

I see it on friday afternoon, I'm not getting my hopes up for anything more than a nice visual movie with some nods to the 'Alien' franchise. I really am grappling with all aspects of Scott's new direction. I feel as though it will mostly entertain.......mostly....

Well it looks and feels like the "last supper" prologue and the "muther" trailer.
If you are happy with those you won't be disappointed.
Personally I thought both were pretty poor. Acting, directing and camera. I was hoping to find something different in the actual film, but alas not.
The quality just isn't there. The gore is a giggle, but it's too short. And there are some nice practical creature effects. The CG is a washout though IMO.
Not just the aliens but throughout.

We went from this... (****ing beauty)

Personally the last supper prologue I didn't like. All acting (aside from Fassbender as an android so you expect him to be a bit stiff) in that scene was stiff I thought. The other short, the crossing is better but I know it's not in the movie. :(

Regarding David
I don't see why mother should randomly acknowledge David, one thing's an alien lifeform, and the other is an android that's the company's property.

I do agree that the final twist could've been underplayes, a simple scared look would've been enough, saying David's name aloud and kicking around undermined the moment

Agreed.
