PS4 Vs. Xbox One: 80% Of Gamers Would Still Prefer PS4 If Xbox One Cost $400, According To Poll

A current poll indicates that gamers would still buy the PS4 over the Xbox One even if the PS4 and the Xbox One both cost $400. Currently, the PS4 costs $399, while the Xbox One will run you $499.
Currently, 1,139 gamers indicated that they would still buy the PS4 even if the Xbox One cost $400. Only 285 indicated that they would opt for the Xbox One. That translates to a roughly 80-20 split. Ouch. The poll began running June 28.

The poll is courtesy of Polar, which allows anyone to generate polls tackling virtually any subject. Polar has a free iOS app, though there is no support for Android yet. We spoke to Polar about an Android release, which is currently in the "planning" stages.

The above data mirrors the results of a poll we covered last week, which indicated that roughly 80 percent of gamers would still prefer the PS4 over the Xbox One even if both cost $500.

The Xbox One has been embroiled in a swirl of controversy and distaste among gamers since Microsoft revealed it in May during a company event. Microsoft initially announced that the Xbox One would feature DRM and restrictions on used games, while the PS4 contained neither from the start.

Roughly three weeks ago, Microsoft reversed course, announcing that the Xbox One would not ship with DRM or used game restrictions. However, the Xbox One lost three big features as a result of this reversal.

What could account for this divide between the PS4 and the Xbox One? It could be any number of things, from Microsoft's mangled messaging, to their temporary adoption of restrictive used game and DRM policies, to exclusives to fanboy/girlism. It could be all of the above as well.

Amazon ran a poll roughly three weeks ago asking whether gamers preferred the PS4 or the Xbox One. The PS4 dominated the Xbox One by an 18-to-1 margin, with the PS4 earning 38,984 votes to the Xbox One's 2,162 tallies. Amazon closed the poll days before it was scheduled to end for reasons unknown. We reached out to Amazon for comment regarding the matter. We have yet to receive a response.

As I have no allegiance to either console/company, I would say Playstation fanboys are more sensitive to negative comments about their console of choice more than XBox fanboys are. I haven't tallied any votes and I may be wrong (and maybe there's just more of them) but it's just the impression I get from reading posts on this forum.

This message intends no offense to any fanboys as the same could be said for me with regards to Tolkien stuff. :peace :lol

PS4 fanboys more sensitive? I think it's equal, but there are plenty of Xbone fans in here don't even allow positive PS4 comments without jumping down their throat with this weird vendetta against Sony.

Which is exactly why I can't be bothered really posting in the console threads anymore.

I would disregard this, that hardly counts as a poll.

Don't bother with your nonsense :wave

God bless the ignore feature.

How are you responding to something you have on ignore? Kinda defeats the purpose, no?

I'll never understand this fanboy stuff. Why any of you guys care about this kind of thing is beyond me. Polls, random opinions, name calling...all in the name of a preference of brand. Doesn't make sense to me. Do these kinds of fights happen over soda brands or cereal too?

Fair point.

In all honesty, I never liked Fruit Loops. It's like chewing wood chips to me.

What a weird tangent this is :lol

Definitely a weird derail. Oh well. TBH, out of the three, Frosted Flakes are my fav.

Anyways, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, die Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo!!!!! Ngage for life!

It's all about Virtual Boy and Gamegear mofo.

Frosted Mini Wheats have always been a heroin like addiction to me.
