But, you're talking about the current consoles :lol.

No I know.. what I mean is, if the "short comings" you guys mentioned are moot at this point then the current sales in the two biggest regions should reflect that. But they don't. The PS3 still isn't selling here in the U.S. regardless of the price drops, hardware configuration changes, etc. And even with the one year release advantage the Xbox 360 had + the cheaper price at release + price drops the Xbox 360 still isn't selling out in Japan. My point is, even with brand new systems from both console manufacturers you're gonna see the same exact trend. PS4 will sell better than the Xbox One in Japan and vice versa here in the States. And then in the other regions they'll both sell relatively the same.

It's true that One has no chance in Japan just like the 360, but the US market is never that predictable. The $100 extra and the Kinect requirement can make a difference in the US.

:exactly:

I don't care what extra comes with Xbox, PS4 is cheaper and it's got more juice to it so they balance each other out. The fork in the road will be decided on exclusives.

I don't think the kinect will make or break anyones decisions, not gamers anyway.

I do think it was a bad idea for Sony to drop the eye purely to beat MS on price - it pretty much makes that tech redundant on PS before it's even got off the ground.

Only time will tell if the Xbox kinect will give us some juicy options. I think PS have over estimated the price war angle though. Most people don't buy consoles because they are cheap, they buy them because they want them.

The original PS3 still sold well and it was ludicrous how much they were asking on release. I remember guys dropping a capital G ($1000) on the thing just to have it when it came out.

i liked it. i played mini golf and tumble a lot. it was also cool on sckboys prehistoric moves. it should have been a longer game though. it worked a million times better than the xbox one.

All of Kinects options will be motion based. Nothing good can come of that IMO. While older gamers like me who buy all consoles won't make choices based on price, I believe it has a big impact on kids and the casual gamer. Parents see one system that's $500 and the other is $400. A kid might prefer one over the other, but will take what they can get. Casual gamers just want their CoD or Madden and will get whichever system is cheapest. The casual market is usually the real difference maker.

The original PS3 was a blu ray player during a time when blu ray players where $800. As high as the price was, it was one of the cheaper blu ray (and best) options.

I know plenty of people that had that same rationale. Although I went after it strictly for gaming, the Blu Ray player was just a bonus.

I bought it for gaming too, but being one of the cheapest options for blu ray really helped it's sales in those early days.

I disagree. I think the tech is there and could be pretty huge if invested and developed for properly. To start, it will probably just have nice little features added to games, head tracking like with forza etc but the future and imo, real next generation could lie with VR. It really could be huge and where M$ hold they're trump card with Kinect. The possibilities are huge and Kinect looks significantly better placed than Sony in that respect.

600$ is ridiculous for a gaming console, but when I look back on it PS3 was still a good investment.

If not just for the Bluray player which were $1000 dollars at the time.
Also they made PS3 future prof which it is. Its only lacking in powereing games.

I wonder how PS4 or Xbone will adapt. What new stuff will turn up in the next 6 years?

Both of them have a lot of room to grow, and what's good is that they don't really have anything preventing that growth. Like for instance the PS3 and Xbox 360 are so low-powered for today that it takes forever just to load stuff. The new consoles will be able to make everything run snappy so if they add things like improved games through the cloud, it'll manage to keep everything at a high level.

Processing in the cloud is a cool idea and would let games go beyond next gen graphics but the problem is you would always need to be connected to the net, and not everyone has superfast broadband.

But its still a cool idea

That's pretty much my view also. People are just assuming that Kinect = motion controls.

From what I've read it's potentially so much more than that including 3D gaming. For what it's worth I'm not a fan of motion controls either but I can see past that. A camera that can read your heartbeat or pick up on expressions has the potential to be used for something a lot more than Dance 4000 or Xbox sports. :)

At the moment it's going to be used only for multiplayer games that people already require an internet connection for. Eventually I'm sure they will consider more once people have more widespread fast connections. It's the same deal with online purchases or streaming games services.

Surprisingly, the U.S. has slow broadband speeds compared to many other countries, and it just pathetically slow when compared to South Korea. I think that alone should set cloud gaming back a few years.
