Posted this in the Mortal Kombat thread too but figured it could be useful here too.

The PlayStation 3 version of Mortal Kombat is seeing the end of an irksome TECHNICALITY: the "Kombat Pass," a token that is required for online play but cannot be redeemed while the PlayStation Store is offline, is being temporarily waived. Up until now, the pool of online combatants was limited to those who hastily activated their passes right before the PSN fell into a coma in late April.

Writing on Mortal Kombat's official Facebook page, NetherRealm Studios confirmed that the game's online component should now be unlocked for all players, though it'll be cordoned off as soon as Sony re-opens the PlayStation Store (possibly by next week). The Kombat Pass code is included with all new copies of Mortal Kombat, and can be purchased separately for $9.99 once a free trial period expires.

If you own a used copy of NetherRealm's well-received revamp, you now have an entire weekend to gauge the value of pulverizing pelvises over the internet.

I had all kinds of problems with my NES. I had to blow on the cartridges (which was actually a system issue, not a cartridge issue) and I had to put the cartridges in and out multiple times sometimes to get them to read. I actually had the same problem with my Super NES later in the years too.

Methinks some people are looking at the old days of Nintendo through rose-colored glasses. :peace

Perhaps. But my NES and SNES still work excellently. Like with all electronics, I think a lot of it comes down to what sort of car you have for them.

Machines today are much more complicated with more moving parts than systems like SNES.

Most people don't treat their systems with that in mind and think it'll survive being shoved in a unventilated corner, on carpet, or a shelf full of dust!

I have mine in one of the slots of my tv stand. It's a boxed in area but has plenty of room around it and I use gel risers underneath the ps3 as well to keep it off it's base.

And anyone who wishes to clean their nes and snes cartridges, use windex and a Q-tip.
:D

That's nice. At the end of the day they still worked, and that's all that matters.

Looks like PSN is down again, can't log into any of my account's.
Any body else from around the globe having this issue???

The Japanese government won't allow Sony to bring PSN Japan back online until they are satisfied it is secure.

As for other territories, I dunno. The store is rumored to go back online today, so maybe PSN is down as they perform maintenance in preparation for the store.

edit: Scheduled maintenance today, no store: https://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/24/playstation-network-scheduled-maintenance-today/

Confirmed by Sony Today..

The PSN is down for maintenance today, before, restarting the STORE .. but finally the Store WONT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL 1 June (24 was just a unfounded rumor according to Sony :thud:) :impatient:

Booo. Fine, June 1st. I actually haven't played for a while. After it went down I focused on getting my Platinum for UC2 and then went back and got it for UC1 and after that worked on getting my platinum for Tomb Raider: UnderWorld. But I got bored and only got the trophies for UC 1 and 2. I think I'm going to stay away from my ps3 until everything is back up and running.

What if at the e3 press conference Kevin butler ran into the hacker and they started fighting with those ps wands or whatever. That would be funny. I mean a deatmatch Sumthin outta stat wars.

So the e-mail to sign up for identity theft protection from AllClear went out, but it won't let me sign up because I have a dash in my e-mail address. :banghead

WTF is wrong with the people who run Sony's web services?

Whatever was going on, it's fixed now and they're allowing e-mail addresses with hyphens.
