Ive tried to log into my email address that is linked to my psn and I cant

someone has changed the password on me :S

I checked my CC and nothing has been charged but im wondering if I should have a new card issued too.. bad thing is I would have to change the number at so many places

I don't even remember if I linked a CC to Sony. I never log on PSN except to download demos. How are you supposed to know which credit card to replace if you can't get access? Oh well...

Xbox 360 users who think you are sitting pretty...

The reality of the matter is that these hackers ripped into the 128-bit encryption software which until now is considered the most secure encryption that is readily used by online companies.

Does this mean that these hackers can have access to any online companie's consumer databases? I'm sure they could hack the 360 at will if they wanted to.

I'm not sure they've broken the encryption, Sony has been kind of vague. They said whoever broke in to PSN got at our personal data, including passwords, but they didn't say which data was encrypted, if any. If it was encrypted, then the good news is that it will take a while for the criminal(s) to decrypt the data, if they'll be able to at all.

It looks like the way the network was hacked was that there was a group that used the tools recently developed (the whole Geohot lawsuit) that allowed people to make their console seem like it was a developer console so they could play online again if they had gotten banned. But they figured out they could do more than that. So basically it was an issue where Sony didn't have enough security on their developer network--not exactly something that could be exploited in the same way on Xbox

Is that confirmed? I saw that yesterday, but it was just some guy speculating on reddit.

And while this exact exploit cannot be used to hack X-Box Live (A dev PS3 isn't ever going to go on X-Box Live), something similar or something wholly different could be cooked up to hack Live or any other service. This exploit should be a wake up call for users who have been using one password across all services to stop doing that.

I don't think the Xbox has been hacked in the same way that the PS3 has--you can run your software on them, but you can't connect to the network since it requires modifying the hardware.

Plus--you'd think that if you're paying for the Xbox Live service you'd get better security.

I'm sure this will make Microsoft, Nintendo, and even Apple look twice at their current security measures.

How do you change your password if you can't even log -in in the first place. Anyone?

According to the e-mail, it does say to change your password after the PSN service is restored so....

It's been so long since I've logged on to PSN - I don't even know what password I used. :lol

You can't. The concern right now is for other services where you may have used the same password.

I see. Apart from my email which I use a different password, what else could be compromised that is linked to my psn account? I don't use the same PSn user id as my other accounts.

Supposedly credit card info is compromised too now...

I can confirm this.
There's a girl at my work whose husband got notified by their bank yesterday or the day before and was told their CC was being used in another state.

Man, I've been tempted so many times to use my CC on the PSN network but this is precisely why I've been using PSN cards.

Like a few here, my credit card info just exp before the breach. I just have yet to update the cc no. Blessing I guess.,

Anything that uses your e-mail address as an ID could be compromised as well since they have your e-mail and password. (if you use the same password across services)

And it should happen too. I know a little bit (very little bit) about credit card laws and it seems that they weren't protecting credit cards numbers and info correctly to have had a breach like this. That is a major violation and if they were any other than Sony then they would probably lose their license to take credit cards. But we all know that won't happen.
