What I hope doesnt happen.....is that companies like SS flood the market with too many statues for people to keep up and then collectors lose interest and quit collecting all together. The same thing happened back in the 90s with comics. Everytime you turned around, they were putting out variant covers, foil this and that, special editions, etc. People got frustrated and stopped collecting because everything was losing value. I'm seeing the same thing with Sideshows open editions. Just my two cents.

Well with new blood like myself coming into the hobby, and people the DC license will bring SSC may need to make a few extras to meet the demand.

This will happen, just wait and see. It's already beginning with so many coming out each year. It's only a matter of time until collectors give up with too much product, money spent, loses interests etc. SS is starting this off with the big march release. Then pcs is doing motu, mortal combat, street fighter, etc. Just give it some time we will get collectors dropping out like flies. Sad but I think the time will come including myself. I mean people quit for so many reasons.

I m feeling the same.......:(

There'll always be buyers. I remember people saying the same thing about HT. I actually dropped out of HT, mainly because I ended up disliking the company but there gone from strength to strength. For every 1 collector who stops 5 new collectors will come along. They wouldn't make these large ES no's if they didn't think they couldn't shift them.

:exactly: There will always be new guys to replace the old guard. I have made a determination to make my collection MY collection. Then I'm out! Have seen too many veteran collectors collect a hundred statues only to sell them later because they got in over their heads or were buying cuz it looked good. I'm not going to make the same mistake.

it is correct that there's just too much stuff coming out so it's just a matter of being very selective and to buy what you really want and not to preorder everything that looks good to you ...

This is already happening with Hot Toys. They used to be very popular but nowadays many collector have stop buying Hot Toys and selling off their collection. There seem to be no more excitement in each new release as in the past. IMO rarity sells and with open editions and reissuance they are actually doing more harm than good for their business.

:exactly: I kind of made that mistake when collecting 1/6 figures. So many cool characters so many things to keep up with. 80% of my collection at the time was boxed in my attic. What's the point? :lol

I've got a list of characters I definitely want & I'm going to just aim for them. With 1/4 scale pieces you need to be selective, thats unless your got plenty of room to display them all that is. One of the reasons why I'm sticking to comic characters & even then I still need to be selective.

CBG right now you have been on a tare, and I could understand that you have a bit of burnout.

Yeah, I am trying to learn that lesson and I am just getting in. I bought the Joker because he looked cool, but in the end I needed to sell him, but in the end I didn't NEED him. I WANTED Skaar, but after sitting back and thinking about it, I don't need him. At least not right now. I know the price for him will most likely go up, BUT I am going to focus on the characters that I have loved since I was a child. I needed to find my focus like you have Kinger, and I think that with time it will just make my life easier.

Some guys need to get just about everything, but some do it right. Mamba for example has an awesome collection, and I have seen him let go of pieces to buy new ones, but he still seems to have the characters he loves. That is what I want to do with this hobby.

I've always been a huge Punisher fan, and I've mainly collected his items since I got hooked on the limited series from Zeck in 86. Since then, I've collected thousands of items. When it comes to the statues and 1/6 figures, I mainly have just Punisher items with some other characters I've liked along the way. Problem is.....there are too many flippers on these things. They're not true collectors at all. Just buying stuff, hiking up the prices on Evilbay and pushing true collectors away because the prices are so inflated. This is happening NOW. The same thing with the comic industry. Think about it, all the movies and stuff promoting this. Like sports, you have what I call the "bandwagoneers". They're not true fans..just people who got into the hype and trend. So if you're a true collector....stick to your guns with collecting. Don't let this bs run you off. Nuff said.

Wise words.

I'm basically down to just x-men and avengers

Here is an older post I made when someone asked me about my vision for my collection. Thought I would post it because it seems that many others here are starting to do similar things with their collection.

You can either read or skip this upcoming long winded post as I have basically made these 4 rules for myself which sort of sums up what I was trying to say.

1. It has to be something that I loved as a younger child or teen that I still love today. It had to have a huge impact on my film and or entertainment tastes. So it can't be something from say like Lord of the Rings.. Because while I love those films I did not love them when I was younger. Yes Hulk is from the Avengers but I thought he was the best Hulk out there so it counts.

2. Only one representation of film or comic (no more then one hulk for example) though I am sort of breaking that rule with Joker and Batman. JAWS is also the exception because....well...It's JAWS .

3. I can only have up to 8 items.. Just don't have room for more. But that is why the rules are there.

4. I can't put the family in debt.... If a better statue comes out I have to sell something so that the funds come from my own items and not my job or my wifes job.... Presents don't count.

Anyways here is the much longer response I made.

It's nothing great. I just want to have several statues of characters that were EXTREMELY important to me in my childhood. Characters that not only were heros of mine or helped shape my movie fandom but have, for me, stood the test of time. Menaing I still love the films and the characters. I want what is, again for me, the best representation of those characters or of the the film. I want pieces that I won't sell regardless how the value might go up.

I decided this a couple of years ago when I found myself buying items and never being 100% happy with a purchase. NOW that is not to say I did not think the statue was awesome. I thought the Punisher and Spidey comiquettes were some of the best SS has ever done. But while I like the characters, I don't love them. I loved the statues of them but because they did not shape my childhood and remain with me into adulthood I wanted the $$ more then the statues. Then there was the Darth Vader and Fett PFs. Great pieces of great characters. Characters that I love but not my fav. characters in those films. There were many many more. I just decided it was time for emotional quality over "looks cool" quantity.

I have my JAWS / Bruce NTT maquette to represent my fav. film of all time. I would like one day to add quints boat the ORCA.

I have the Indiana Jones TOD PF. Now while not as iconic as the ROTLA the paint apps on my TOD PF are AMAZING. Add to that the fact that it actually TOD that made me a CRAZY Indiana Jones fan. I saw that film in theaters when I was thirteen yrs of age. The perfect film for a young male teen. I also feel the film is underrated and by far the best of the Indy sequals

I have the Conan the Barbarian PF. This film probably impacted me more then any other film ever. I was obsessed with it. It is my fav. production designed film of all time. Ron Cobb did amazing work designing that world. The Atlantean Sword is my all time fav film prop (have that also) I got into all the comics for about eight years and the Original Soundtrack is still my 1st or 2nd fav album of all time.

Now I have C-3PO and R2 - D2 pfs on order. R2 is my fav. character from the films and they both are by far, for me, the best representation of those films. I mean I was a child of the 70's so of course I was attracted to the child frindly droids. But man their image was everywhere. I still love them and never understand the hate that 3PO gets from some.

The Hulk Maquette - I have had several Hulks in my days. All great but none perfect. The Hulk was, along with Batman, my first comics. I also grew up with the show. I love his design and the fact that all of this power is in the mind of a child. The Maquette while not comic based looks like the perfect representation of him. I have sold all my other hulks to get ready for this guys release.

The Joker and Batman PFs - Had the comics as a child. I remember finding strange that the comics were so dark and sort of scary when I was use to the 60's tv show reruns. Batman and Joker are Iconic and still capture my imagination to this day.

My God I am sorry for how long reply became. I hope it makes sense. I have been thinking of this for some time. Trying to figure out how I want to make the room look. Guess I got caught up in my dreams while writing this :)

Almost forgot I have a 1964 godzilla Model. Godzilla was by far my biggest childhood hero. Still love him and now so do my kids!!!
