thick is the problem. it should be a thin linen type material. :monkey1

like this hasbro figure.....

The Hasblo one looks like bedsheets. Looks nothing like what QG is wearing in the movie.

actually it's exactly like a tan bedsheet. sideshow is using some thick burlap type of fabric, which would be correct for mace windu's tunic.

see the attached screenshot of liam neeson a few posts above and you'll see qui-gon's tunic is a thin linen type material.

No, I don't like this Hasbro figure. Not as much as I like Sideshow's!!!

The sculpt is the most important thing to me, and the SS version is far superior. And I don't like Barbie doll hair, either.

sure the sculpt is important. and i'm not saying the hasbro qui-gon is anywhere near sideshow quality. i'm just saying hasbro got the tunic and undershirt right, where sideshow seems to have used the wrong fabric.

but i guess it does not matter. sideshow sold $120,000 worth of toys today in just 30 minutes, so they have no incentive to fix their mistakes. and who am i to ask for accuracy when everyone else is happy to settle for less.

"hey, his shirt is tan, and his pants are brown, i'll take two!":monkey5

Well it shows me the collectors are not that picky about the exact, 100% fabric type. The uniform looks like what was worn and looks to be far better quality than what we have seen from that other company.

As for the figures, Maces tunic is far different than QG. And also remember those are prototype pics. . . . .

It seems like they have more freedom with size, shape, and color than with fabric type. It would be difficult to duplicate the weave of a particular fabric in reduced 1/6 scale. Scaling down clothing seems pretty difficult, and reproducing the exact texture (only at a much smaller scale) seems to be nearly impossible.

I will hold them to a higher standard with the facial sculpt, because that is done from absolute scratch, but the clothes are made from existing material that may or may not be meant for use at one sixth the originally intended size. I wouldn't want to have to pay Sideshow to get out a little loom and spin miniature scaled cloth from scratch. I'm surprised that they get them to look as good as they do, all things considered.

Of course, I don't have a Hasbro figure to compare it to, so I really can't speak to the comparison between the two costumes.

so if sideshow makes tatooine luke, and his white shirt is made of leather or denim instead of some cotton-like fabric, you'll be OK with that, as long as the color and pattern are right?:D

Yeah, I care much much more about the sculpt than th fabric.

it's not like we have to choose...........accurate sculpt or accurate costume. we should get both, espeically for $60.

i want to see tatooine luke in a leather shirt and see if you guys say the same thing.:monkey1

Right, cause Luke in leather is comparible to QG's ponch

And the figure is 49.99 not 60 :D

That's not what I'm saying. What was saying is the sculpt concerns me the most of anything on the figure. I want the costume as close as they can get it using materials as close to what was used on screen. If it's like QG and it just happens to be a little off I'm ok with it.

i'm talking about his shirts not the poncho. (actually the material being used on the shirt would be better suited for the poncho, and the poncho material would be better for the shirts)

and i don't know about you, but i don't get free shipping. the cost is just under $60 for this figure.

And I have to pay tax, so the cost for me is over $60. But I am happy with the figure. Sideshow isn't making me buy the things, right? Oops! Be right back, I have to restart that hypnosis tape that Dusty and Chicky sent me...

I really wanted this Qui-Gon and I did get the exclusive. I would like the poncho to be longer but it doesn't keep me from really liking this figure. I plan on displaying my figure with the poncho on regardless.

I have the exclusive PF Luke and I really like his poncho, but the material doesn't hang just like it does in the movie. I am thinking that SS does the best it can with the 1/6 scale figure clothing.

yea, it's a really nice figure. i may even get a second figure so i can display one with the poncho, and one with the robe. i just wish the figure was as perfect as possible, as this is probably the only qui-gon figure sideshow will ever make.

if i had the power i'd change the following things....

1. sculpt the hair attached to his head, and include removable hair attachments that let the owner decide if they want to pose his hair in front or behind his back.

2. make the poncho bigger, the correct color and texture of material.

3. make the tunic and undershirt the correct texture of fabric.

it's probably not too late to make these changes.

No probably about it. There is no reason to make another Qui-Gon figure. This one covers the character's arc.

I'll be displaying mine with the poncho. Keep in mind that if you really don't like how it hangs, you can always slip some wire into the seams, and pose it to hang the way you like. It usually turns out well, and it's never permanent, so you don't have to worry about hurting the exclusive poncho.
