Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Anyone asked if those are the color of the jeans hes using? The color is off compared to what he uses in the film.

The bottom pic of the jeans aren't accurate though. Those are not the movie used boots or belt or jeans. Just the tank jacket and plaid shirt are film used movie accurate on loan from the University of Texas I believe.

But your right, the jeans are more beat in instead of having that raw denim appearence. I think with a good wash Rainmans jeans will be absolutely perfect. Simple mod to do yourself or have a professional like Elvis1976 handle it.

I'm sure when people think of Taxi Driver they think of the Mohawk with bomber jacket look.
Not this person, BUT. . .I know that's the majority view. Surely, if you walk into random freshman dormitories you'll see more posters of Deniro in the mohawk look tacked on the wall next to Scarface or Animal House posters.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Sorry to say, not feeling these. Shame cause I really want a set of both looks from a single artist but that soldier head is too off imo. The cabby with hair definately looks better but not perfect. I'd say they are just as off as every other attempt, VM's, Kai's, etc. Everyone got some of the aspects perfect and over exaggerated or missed others.

Speaking of Drive does RM have any plans to take a shot at that?

Dont think so, he did the accessories for Xenoviper's Drive figure.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Ah, shame. I'm kinda sad he didn't do a particular expression with Travis either because another artist already did. It's like saying he won't paint flowers because it's been done. Have to imagine I'd be more hard pressed to pass if that Soldier head had that classic smirk. To me that's as much a part of the Mohawk/M65 look.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I agree that the likeness isn't 100%. To me, the Rainman style comes through very loudly here, but for me that's OK so long as it's still clearly Deniro, and is aesthetically pleasing, which these sculpts are IMO (particularly the hair look). But I think Rainman makes a great point in his previous post, in that if you focus too much on the nits, you sometimes miss the bigger picture. These are two awesome looking figures. The outfits, the accessories, the sculpted chest, and the sculpts, when put together, are going to be really distinctive on the shelf, representing a real icon of film.

I can get some not totally feeling these, but after the full reveals I'm finding myself as excited for these figures as anything else Rainman has done since the Dude. . .the fact that he's my favorite movie character/actor Rainman has done since then probably helps.

On another note, placeholders for the outfit sets have gone up. You can see more details from the "soldier" outfit. And the price is $400 per. So, you can reckon head/outfit sets will run, at the very minimum, $500. I would guess $520-550 each.

Mohawk is being tweaked.

Even disregarding that fact, rainman figures always look better in hand.

Xeno's using Rainman's tailor too so ya have to also take that into account.

This is certainly true, especially regarding Vince and Anton. When I saw images of them the heads looked huge, but in hand, really not that bad at all.

Looking at the Rainman pieces overall, It's starting to sink in what the Rainman "charm" of these figures are. His stuff looks real but toyish at the same time, and it's somthing that I kind of appreciate because these are essentially toys, just very fine versions of them. All of his figures for the most part have that "toyish" feel to it. The style of it is growing on me, just as long as he finds a good balance for it and keeps that aspect of his sculpting subtle.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I dunno, I find both sculpt to be far too soft looking. I'm passing on this release, with Xeno's Driver to pay off and Johnny's Freddie among many other po's I have to be picky and this just doesn't look worth it to me.

There's no doubt that some style snuck in on these; no one can argue there. I'm part of the camp that favors his sculpts with less to minimal style too, so I see how some could be on the fence or passing altogether.

I agree with KM80, for me it's the whole package + character that's the big draw. To me this falls just on right side of the "style" line for me to still really dig it. While the style is definitely present, it leans more toward Dude, Bill, Doc, Plainview & Anton then others with too much of the "RM touch" for my liking.

I agree that every attempt on Bickle to date had aspects that were nailed and others that were missed. Rainman’s aren’t perfect but IMO these is the best overall sculpts so far.

Anyone asked if those are the color of the jeans hes using? The color is off compared to what he uses in the film.

From what I remember, that Mohawk pic with the light jeans is a promo shot and didn't appear in the flick. It looks like RM just went with the same denim wash for both looks but in the movie the Driver look had the lighter wash and the Mohawk look had a dark wash like we're getting in this set.

Just add a few more things like Clockwork, Pulp Fiction, Natural Born Killers and some others and that sounds like my place 15 years ago :lol (or last week...)

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I think there is as much of Rainman's own style here as there was in Anton, and the latter is held by some to be one of his best works. So maybe when it is in-hand opinions will shift even more favorably toward this figure.
