Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I think people have said something to this effect but for me, this is awesome. There is some style with in the sculpt but that's why I love it so much. There have been a few really nice Bickles made, like really nice ones. But being that I love Taxi Driver/Travis Bickle and also rainman's work and his style, it makes this such a special release for me. I'm getting a character that I love by an artist that I love, this rules!

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Not gonna lie... kinda wish there will be a limit in the future for VIPs on just how many DX/double full sets they can buy. I see too much potential for either flipping abuse... or simply not enough full sets for others.

I can't say that I don't have a problem with this. What's going on? I thought that the one per customer thing went into effect after The Dude debacle?!?!?! I'm not starting an argument here and it's not the boardies fault, but this is something that should be regulated by Rainman. I can see people being allowed to get a FS & an H&C... but 2 FS?!?!?! That's definitely no buono.

I get that it's a business and he wants it all to fly but there should be some type of rule that multiple sets to one customer aren't allowed until like 3 days after opening day. These things are way too limited; there really isn't a reason why some people should walk with two while others are left empty handed.

I also get the hostage thing because everyone wants to hedge their bets, but a week is WAY too long. I'd say 2-3 days TOPS is fair. If people need time to scrape together the dough for one of these, I think there’s plenty of time from announcement to sales day to make that happen (2+ months). I don't see a need for the extra 4-5 days at the end of the stretch.

God knows how many are held hostage as we speak! How long can I keep my eye on his site refreshing???....

12 hours of work and I still can't sleep. DAMN. The days go on and on; they don't end. All my life needed was someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe someone should become a person like other people...

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Looking at the Rainman pieces overall, It's starting to sink in what the Rainman "charm" of these figures are. His stuff looks real but toyish at the same time, and it's somthing that I kind of appreciate because these are essentially toys, just very fine versions of them. All of his figures for the most part have that "toyish" feel to it. The style of it is growing on me, just as long as he finds a good balance for it and keeps that aspect of his sculpting subtle.

Yes, it would help if he reworked the eyelids a bit, maybe open the eyes more. The mouth, lips look to perfectly accentuated, like if lipstick were applied. If he would tweak it with a bit more anger. The present sculpt is just very soft, really doll like.

I gotta agree, even with the glasses on it looks like hes puckering up for a kiss.
It is hard to critique and not sound insensitive but its off. Its a very large sum of money again for this and personally im a bit withdrawn.

It would be wrong to expect more, so really the difficulty lies in passing on this.

But then was this:
He has a style people! This is his style! If you can't accept it, then I suggest you refrain from getting involved. He is not a photo realistic sculptor like Trevor. This is his style, like it or lump it.

I like it
Oh, sorry... that was Teddy Daniels' post, #1459 - he always mentioned the "charm" Turbo just raved about, after some time of discontent with initial pics shown.

Brilliant. Wonder if Turbo will just ignore all those valid points and argue with someone else. Like he did to my post pages back.

Here are a few more shots of the jeans...

Yup. Two different jeans. Bros. Prod. offered the two different washes for the different looks. I've been asking about this for a while but it looks like he went with the dark wash. It would've been nice to have the two different ones but I'd be surprised if this changes at this point.

I think there is as much of Rainman's own style here as there was in Anton, and the latter is held by some to be one of his best works. So maybe when it is in-hand opinions will shift even more favorably toward this figure.

Hmmmm. Yea? Personally I see a touch more style here than in Anton

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I get the investment aspect, but dont like it. The "Investor view" had a mass impact on coin, comic book, and baseball card collecting and wrecked those collector markets. Hopefully we dont end up with a situation in which mass outsiders, not true 1/6 collectors, hog all up RMs figs, and push the rest out. Theres a precedent.

@ siquisiri

I have had the hardest time trying to find and m65 jacket. There are some like the m65 Rambo the brother productions bickle and some others but it's really hard to even get them. I've bought a few jackets that I've reworked and nothing has really worked out well. The best one I could find is the South Korean 2nd infantry division jacket. Some modifications will be needed but it can look the part. Here it is reworked with my Dead Man's Shoes custom.

Took me forever to get a HT Rambo M65, like 2 years and finally spent $50 on it.

I know not many want to weather the RM jeans but with a little wear on the knees for the Driver look they would look much more accurate to the film

You definitely can take matters in your own hands but I think that even for the savviest of dudes like Seb, it's a gamble when you're playing around with dye

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

I agree on the multiple DX/full sets, though I guess things are bit different here where you get two completely different outfits at one time in one release (I would not want to say that folks shouldn't buy the two individual full sets if they couldn't get the double set or DX set). But yeah, I don't think a single person should get a DX set plus another full set or whatever, though Rainman makes his own rules. In general, I think it would be nice if Rainman upped edition sizes appropriately to account for increased demand. The removing VIP idea is silly to me, as it's simply a reflection of his increased popularity (more sales = more VIPs), and the edition sizes should reflect that. I think this set actually does a pretty good job of accounting for that though, assuming the 20 per individual full set is correct.

The "hostage" thing, well, I'm sure you are against it if you gobbled up the most desired set at the get-go. But that POV from that kind of customer comes off as self-serving. If you were in the shoes of someone else who missed it and wanted their opportunity, I bet folks would change their tunes very, very quickly ;)

Ultimately though, guys like Pop are going to get opportunities from canceled sets. The question is simply of when the cancellation occurs, so I don't know that it works for or against any of those guys to have a shorter cancellation period. I guess more anxiety for a longer period of time (a week vs. 3 days), but ultimately it's still a crap shoot as to when opportunities will pop up.

I agree with siquisiri on the collectibility thing. Seems just a matter of time before it bursts, and when it does, I bet Rainman's prices will have to drop, or his edition sizes will have to dwindle, because just like with Hot Toys, lots of folks do seem to buy with the intention of flipping at higher value. What happens when that mentality goes away? In Rainman's favor though, I think he's a lot further away from this than is Hot Toys, just because of the nature of the more hardcore, albeit niche audience, and relative edition sizes.

:lol

I've screwed around with some really expensive customs and clothes but it would be a bit hard to work on a Rainman figure, for me anyway.

Re: Rainman Artwork 2013 NYC Cabbie "God's Lonely Man"

Yeah, if I wanted to fool around with that kind of thing I would just try to find some nice jeans elsewhere and try my hand at that. I've seen Teddy and others modding Rainman clothing, and that always gives me a little shock when I see it :lol
