I'll be back when the pre-order's announced. Not much other than negative energy flowing through this thread.

I have said this in the past, we the collectors most of the people we see day to day in the custom creation forums on SSF are the ones buying, selling and trading these figures. This is a unique group of people willing to spend thousands on a 12’ figure. This inner circle is what makes us collectors, without all of us combined there is no demand or reasons behind any releases. We are brothers and sisters joined by the love of classic characters created by classic artist. We all have our reasons for collecting and we should all respect that.

I would sincerely like to apologize to Turbo about the negative comments I threw your way. I respect your opinion and that you have the passion to express them. You are a long time serious collector and own amazing rare pieces and I understand your and others frustration on this new ordering process.

Ever since Robbie started on the trike I know a lot of us were already jealous and upset that we would never even have a chance to order this item. Ultimately this new ordering process isn’t even set in stone and could very well revert to the classic ordering process, making this discussion irrelevant. We all need to respect each other and the artist decisions, there shouldn’t be so much hate and malice in these threads because in the end we are the ones purchasing these from the artist and one another.

I would also like to thank Jesus for giving me another year of life, 2015 is heading around the corner and I am still breathing for another exciting year of overpriced collecting. On a side note I hate you ShortRound

Im having a true first world problem on this one. I was lucky enough to win second place in the contest, but I REALLY want to go all out for the DX, this is the freaking Shining were talking about here.. Im conflicted..

I for one am excited and yes I do want to support the whole offering and get the trike...twins amd what have you. I am not a VIP on his site but I have spent TONS of money catching up and buying some of the figures I wanted from him that I had to deal with after market prices and so on to get them. So from my point of view, I have no problem with this being open ended to non VIPs because I spent just as much if not more in certain cases on his work. I'd rather see more authentic sets out there then a bunch of kitbashes and knockoffs afterwards.

Good system
Get rid of the quick flippers and get the opportunity for the people who really want the DX to get one.
I am excited

Will the sculpts be sold? I really wish I could get this as a supporter I think this will rock even though I'mnot a major fan of the movie but it sounds pretty awesome!

Any further info on the whole open ended/limited direction? Could be a deal breaker for me.

Yeah, assuming things come out well enough, that's probably what I'm going to go for, no matter how he structures the release of this figure. Great film, performance, and book, but I'm not such a fan that I need to go all out with this one. Good thing for me he'll never do a Miller's Crossing Tom figure.

:) ... Yep... Beyond a point can't spend that much on a figure. The only place where i have spent obscene money is gbu and brba ... But again I spent 5 yrs of my life enjoying brba and gbu to me was a Grail.

Good for all those that wanna buy the dx set etc. for me just h and c would definitely do.

Good model of sales being considered though - will surely put flippers back in their holes!!! Too many around! Hope every fan gets what he wants (that's always my philosophy)

Figures to fans and money to artists and a bullet to the flippers :) or a finger would do ;)

I think the flipper excuse is being way overexaggerated to be honest. It's being used as a major excuse in favor of convenience by pointing the finger at the VIP structure created for Rainmans dedicated and long time support base in an effort to avoid having to deal with the limited nature of Rainman's products which in my opinion protects and keeps intact the collectibility, quality, and desire for the product more than anything.

First of all an open ended release will not deter flippers from buying this. It will probably invite more who have no interest in this character at all just for the prospect of selling it off eventually.

Secondly, and more importantly, this is directed at everyone who is using the flipping excuse.....Where is the evidence? Where is it evident that rampant flipping is going on? I would be in total agreement if I saw that there was a large trend of collectors who are buying Rainmans work with only with the intention of selling it but I just don't see that. Other than the casual sale, I've only ever maybe seen 1 or 2 members on here that are always stuck in a constant cycle of buying and selling off their Rainman figures, one member in particular who most of you respect because these individuals have become a great resource for your convenience with regard to aquiring clothing, parts and sculpts and as a result get a "pass".....That's the hypocrisy of these boards. So why are some of you pointing fingers with regard to flipping when most of y'all on the flipping bandwagon are in bed with these proven track record flippers on other projects. Why.......because of convienience.

Sideshow Collectables should be convenient, Hottoys should be convenient. Rainman handmade figures have no business being a product of convenience in my opinion. It's what I would suggest to this man if I were a part of his operation.

My only concern is that the quality will drop in production phase.

Either that or it could feasibly take a year to complete all orders of completely open ended.

Unsure if I will be ordering anything yet.

I hope this approach works for Rainman. If, as an artist, he can make more money, then more power to him and his plan. Even open ended would produce less than 100 full figure orders. I would be curious to know what the order total will end up being!?
They sell out quickly because the same people keep buying them. Yes, every year a few more with big wallets join that group, but it is still minimal compared to how many are on this forum alone. There will not be 1000 people who will buy this at that price. 30, 50, 100... It is still a limited figure.
A small number run is desirable, but I am sure it will remain a small number compared to other figures out there.

And who the **** are we to say how Rainman should go about his avenues of making money?!!!
What a joke... We are lucky these figures are even getting made at this high standard...everybody should have the chance of owning a masterpiece if it is within their budget...it shouldn't be about who has the quickest fingers on a keyboard.

Snake has raised the most logical reason against the larger run idea:
will this amazing quality suffer due to such a large run? We saw some issues there with the Bickle release. I hope he has allowed more time to get these out at the normal, amazingly high quality that they are...

@marlin, page 65, post #648.

If it's open ended, there is every possibility he could double his usual numbers. From that point onwards it can go one way of two ways. Corners might be cut, thus the expected RM quality control suffers due to getting them out in a timely and efficient manner. Other than that, like Snake mentioned, it could potentially take 6 months plus to get all orders shipped.
