Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Yeah but I think he means what rainman did with the head...painting, cut-off neck.

:exactly: i absolutely loved the pictures of erick's unpainted sculpt. and i'm not knocking the end product as others really do seem to love it, but i just felt after it was cast, cut at the neck and painted, it looked completely different. i was unwise to preorder before the final pics were posted. i don't mind dropping $800 on a figure, but when you could really use the cash for more serious stuff, and you're not 100% sure it's better to cancel. i was just unfortunate that rainman couldn't accommodate me as easily as he did others who cancelled.

:goodpost::exactly::exactly:

Well said Magnus. I completely agree about the buying one figure from Rainman, only to sell it for the "next ultimate, best work of Rainman's". It just doesn't make any sense AT ALL to me when I see it happen on these boards. It's like, what's the whole point of collecting at all?? To me that's not what this hobby is about.

I also agree about your point on the artist gifts. I could never do that.

And trust me, everyone here on this forum knows what kind of passion you have for these figures and this hobby and no one is putting you in that category with your current personal situation and need for quick cash. Things like this happens and I for one won't see you in any different light because of it. I'm just glad you didn't have to do this for Pee-Wee :lol
Thanks bro your words hit home and I appreciate that man! And I'd sell my left nut for Pee Wee and his "BIKE" Remember the bike is very important! :lol

I also think letting go of Marty might have been easier for you because somewhere in the back of your mind you probably feel Hot toys might eventually make him..am I right?

I think a very important thing you must consider when buying an $800 custom is what are the odds this character will be produced by an official company and distributed to the masses?

Doc holiday not alone is one of my favorite movie character but I can buy him comfortably knowing he probably won't be touched by the likes of hot toys or enterbay.

That definitely wasn't the reason bro. Do I think HT will touch BTTF? Who knows nowadays. They are cashing in on guaranteed properties and not worrying about the small stuff right now. Yes as big as BTTF is I bet HT doesnt believe it will produce Batman/Predator/Ironman numbers, so were basically just waiting on them to get tired of their cash cows.

I always consider the cash I put down when buying any collectible. Believe me! I have a wife and two kids!:lol I have no doubt Doc Holiday is gonna kick all kinds of ass, its just not my flick so I will pass. But I'm happy for you and all the other freaks that obtain this figure out of pure love for the character. The feeling is like no other. I havent felt it since Beto started showing pictures of Fluffy (my personal grail) and hope to feel it again if Pee Wee is ever made.

i think your situation is different, and you shouldn't feel bad at all about selling your marty. i do however feel slightly guilty... i bought a VIP set, had some minor money troubles (and wasn't convinced by the way rainman did the head) and therefore cancelled my preorder (rainman couldn't issue the refund straight away, sent me the set by accident, and i now how to pay customs, collect it and send it back... but that's another story). i will never in future buy a rainman figure before the full final set is revealed, even if it means missing out.

so far i have the 3 GBU figs, the big lebowski and a marty clothing set coming. all movies i absolutely love. but my problem is i love way too many movies. and my interest in them doesn't really fade over time. that makes things expensive :lol

and i'm not sure of what this gift business is referring to... could someone enlighten me? did someone sell vip figure accessories?

Thanks brother! Glad you could work out your problem. Im a little guilty of being quick on the trigger for this one too! Now I'm dealing with it! :lol I have much love for many films too which makes it very hard as I want every damn thing. But I sit back reflect and choose the best I can with what I'm working with. Hope from now on your doing the same! :peace

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

I kinda feel you guys are talking about me as one of these 'flippers' and somebody selling a Rainman figure for the next best thing.

I haven't sold many Rainman items over my time of collecting but surely I reserve that right?

I only sell if absolutely neccessary and always sell for pretty much what I paid for it, I have even been known to take a loss. I am certainly not in this to gain.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Totally know what you mean and agree with you. I have a sentiment value for my collection and still own my Hasbro 12" Star Wars, even though Sideshow did them and now Hot Toys is. And it all goes back to my childhood when I owned the first G.I. Joes and Captain Action. I loved those figures and spent hours playing with them.
But I've learned sometime in the 15 years I've been in this Hobby, people collect for different reasons, and have different feeling for their figures. And to tell someone how to collect or what to do with his collection is silly. I greatly admire Rainman's work, but I can't see myself spending or affording that kind of money. I got very lucky and found four of Rainman's G,B & U unpainted head sculpt for sale on this forum and was able to build my own figures.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

I just wish some of the early collectors of Rainmans work, many of who are members of this forum would set a standard for this Man's work and finally separate the Apples from the Oranges.
:goodpost:

i'm kinda lazy, so i don't part with figures too often. i like having certain things in my collection, even though they're outdated, because they remind of the time i bought them, and all the time in between i enjoyed them. i'm a bit overly nostalgic like that.

but customs are different. i've never sold anything someone made for me as a one-off or a very limited run. however, with rainman's stuff i can sort of understand wanting to sell when you're in sudden hardship. these things are expensive and there's usually demand, so it makes for a quick and easy sale in desperate times. you can't help when bad things happen, and you have to do what you have to do.

what i personally try not to do is buy a rainman figure (or any custom) just coz it's a rainman figure. i have to want and love the character or movie. otherwise i know what will happen - i'll get bored of it, and try to sell it to fund the next big thing. then you're in an endless cycle and collecting becomes temporary holding. and you potentially stop someone else from getting something you didn't REALLY have any interest in, which would make me feel ____ty afterwards.
I'm disgusted with those that take advantage of the artist, just for their personal gains. And truth be told, those with entitlements and NEED to have an artist's work, just because. Too many times, these brats let the next great piece drive 'em into a frenzy.

Sometimes, you have to bite the bullet. There's no knowing whether HT will touch BTTF. Heck, I got my hands on two Alex figures and wouldnt mind having a third. I know HT will not likely ever land the license, as that property and KUbrick's estate is such a pain in the arse to land. But, if HT makes 'em, I would still love my Alex figures and cherish 'em. The HT piece will just complement the already existing pieces of art that I have.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Not my movie, but that Doc Figure is going to look Fresh!
Congrats to those moving in on this. That hat is killer!

That was a small dilemma for me, because I have a sneaking suspicion that the BTTF announcement on the Milk guy's Facebook page was legit. Not the specs of course, but the announcement picture. BUT, BTTF is one of my all time favorite movies, and there was no way I was gonna let a chance of missing out on a high end 1/6th scale version pass me by. And there are no regrets here. I love the figure I've got, and even if HT does it, I can't imagine it's gonna have all the nifty features and details that this one does. I'll surely have no problems with 2 great Marty McFlys on the shelf.

TAnd I'd sell my left nut for Pee Wee and CHAIRY Remember Chairy is very important! :lol

You are in no way shape or form a flipper Teddy but let me say this, If Rainman ever makes a David figure and it ends up in your sale thread!:nono I will make you a Lost boy for real! ;)

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

i dont care how much the fig is, he is one of my fav charactersa and hopefully i get him, if i do im gettin buried with him =)

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Thats below the belt! There are many people that want this I am sure!

I rather see figures from Young Guns any day before this guy is made. I find it funny that you have Kiefer Sutherland as your avatar and sig for Lost Boys but your not representing the better western that he actually starred in. Tombstone is a mid 90's decent cowboy flick that is easily surpassed by the likes many films worthy of the $800 plus Rainman treatment!

I'd gladly buy a Pee Wee or Napoleon before this choice. As crazy as people think Mag might sound I think the dude has an eye for the cult! Shortround as well! C'mon Rainman POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!! :peace

Whether it is a better western or not is a matter of opinion, so don't expect someone else to think the same as you!:lecture and so what if Teddy has Kiefer in his sig! like myself he wants a figure of the Vampire David, what your saying it that he should want a figure of Kiefer's character in Young guns more because he is the same actor that's in his sig and he's apparently from a better film then tombstone?:cuckoo::slap

Exactly you dont have to agree with me its what opinions are all about. Im just busting balls on the Kiefer thing! If it was up to me I'd have Rainman make a Jack Bauer that kicked Enterbays down the hole! I just feel this Doc holiday thing is a waste of an $800 figure choice! The prices for these figures seem to go up with every release so I feel the quality of choices should go up as well. It is my opinion that Doc isnt the way to go and it seems more than a few Rainman customers agree with me so my words cant be that wrong can they? In the end Rainman will make what he wants but will start to see leftover product on the table. Mark my words. Its happening to Hot Toys and it can happen to him as well.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Your right it is your opinion but for me no way is Young Guns anywhere near as good as Tombstone. Just my opinion is all.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Honestly all these people voicing there disappointment with the figure choice should really cop on a bit, In the words of the rolling stones "You can't always get what you want" As I've said before Rainman will be onto his next figure before you know it! I never complained about figure choices I just patiently waited for him to make something that I would be actually willing to dish out the $$$ on,surely others can do the same? it feels as if some of you are actually in a hurry to spend $800!

:goodpost: I agree. Don't really see what the big deal is. Only useful to have more time to save up for something you do like.

Also pretty sure Rainman himself has expressed interest in doing Tombstone so I dunno why the choice is so shocking to begin with :dunno

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

slightly off topic, but i just started watching deadwood and i'm totally hooked. i thought timothy olyphant was good in justified but he's even better as bullock. this is right up there with my favourite westerns.

i used to love young guns when i was younger. when i watched it recently it didn't seem as good. still love emilio estevez's billy the kid though. great to see him and charlie working together, but not as much as in "men at work" :lol now there's a classic movie.

shut up, yes it is.
