Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

slightly off topic, but i just started watching deadwood and i'm totally hooked. i thought timothy olyphant was good in justified but he's even better as bullock. this is right up there with my favourite westerns.

i used to love young guns when i was younger. when i watched it recently it didn't seem as good. still love emilio estevez's billy the kid though. great to see him and charlie working together, but not as much as in "men at work" :lol now there's a classic movie.

shut up, yes it is.

had to give myself a golf clap for the men at work reference...

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

As I posted earlier in this thread, I don't think Tombstone is a top-tier western. . .but I think it is much higher up the list than Young Guns. C'mon now.

And I agree with eighthsamurai's post in its entirety :lol Men at Work, FTW!

Funny though, I have been catching up on Justified Season 2, and was re-watching a bit of Deadwood just a couple days ago. And I do think Olyphant was better as Bullock. Bullock was more flawed and complex than Ray-Len Givens, and Olyphant pulled it off brilliantly. Too bad he'll never get the credit he fully deserves since his performance was dwarfed by Ian McShane dominating that show.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

i still need to see justified season 2, but I loved season 1. i've heard it's better so I'm looking forward to it. he seems to have been born to play that southern gunslinger role. only on episode 5 of deadwood but i can see what you mean about him being dominated by mcshane.

incidentally, i caught last man standing the other day too, the movie walter hill did. funny to see william sanderson in a similar role in both. while the movie was pretty crap compared to fistful of dollars, or yojimbo before it, christopher walken was better than any villain in either of them. walken rocks!

back on topic... whatever you think of tombstone, it's hard to deny that val kilmer's doc hollywood wasn't memorable at least. one of the best portrayals i've seen. i watched wyatt earp a few months back and dennis quaid paled in comparison.

Nice!

Oh and Kara, you are correct!

I saw Last Man Standing at the theaters. . .and vowed never to see it again :lol

And I totally agree about Kilmer as Doc. It was a great performance. After Jim Morrison (and guy from Real Genius, of course), I would rank it as the best I've seen in Kilmer's career.

And Justified does somehow get better with season 2. I'm about halfway through, but the main "villain" is completely unassuming and awesome. This is a show that knows precisely what its strengths are, and it focuses on them without getting too sidetracked with unnecessary BS. It doesn't pretend to be a great work on the order of the Sopranos or Breaking Bad, but it works. It is great at what it is. I hope it can continue on and succeed at such a high level for a few more years.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

:lol i remember seeing last man standing in the cinema too. think i was too young and impressionable to make such a vow.

i hear you about justified. i only recently finished sopranos, and now know what everyone was talking about. having said that, i think the wire was even better. i think quality-wise they're on par, just what kind of show you prefer.

i think "top secret" beats "real genius" though :lol i'm really looking forward to the choices rainman makes with this one - i feel if i had to have one val kilmer fig it would be this one. i did love his jim morrison, but i'd rather have an actual jim morrison.

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Wire is my favorite television show ever of all times. Don't know if you've seen this or not, but Cheungkinmen made an awesome Dominic West sculpt. He said that he's gonna modify it to have a more McNulty hairdo at some point.

And I would apologize for going off topic, but Rainman threads are about 90% conflict/OT wishlist anyways, so. . . I don't feel too bad about it :lol

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

that's pretty damn good. think he needs to look slightly more battered though - dominic west's face looks like a wrinkled bag of old laundry! and it's definitely my favourite show of all time now (non-comedy of course).

Re: Rainmans New Project: Dr. Huckleberry

Some good convo here this Sunday morning! Im really digging it! Wow where to begin. I agree with alot thats being said. I think Rainmans work is definitely art and should be treated as such. It sucks that some stuff gets flipped but like Turbo said its part of the game. If stuff wasn't being sold from time to time how would new collectors get a shot at a classic piece?

I just really dont get the point of buying a figure and then selling it for the next one. That practice doesn't make much sense to me. Its like living off the same $1200 to $1500 just to stay in the high end game. Why bother? To each his own but seems crazy to me. As for gifts, yes if a artist gave me a gift it would take some huge cojones to just go out there and sell it. Very poor taste imo. But like I said its just my opinion.

I'm personally not in the Rainman market to own every figure he makes. I only buy what characters I like. Nothing more nothing less.

As for my Marty situation Im not proud that I have to sell him. I really need to get up the some big cash for personal reasons and like I said Im not too attached to this piece like my others cause its still new. Do I love BTTF? Yes! Am I 100% in love this figure? To be honest. No. I think the outfit is fan-freaking-tastic as well as the accessories and paint work. It's just something isnt right with the sculpt to me. And it makes the decision to sell a little easier for me.

Can this info damage my potential for the sale? Quite possibly but its how I feel. And Im not afraid to say it.

I feel yah; heck, it seems like a few Alex figures have been sold in the BST section, and just recently a few Dudes, and other past Rainman figures, from his "big fans," and at times at crazy marked up prices, in preparation for the next best set (VIPs too, who get first dibs before they go on sale to public). I just don't get this practice, at all. It's flipping practically. It's a shame -- rainman is an artist who wants to make people happy. Truly sad...

Olyphant is a terrible actor. He's the reason I gave up on Deadwood. I couldn't watch him talk through his teeth anymore.
