sly is grasping for straws. i thought rocky balboa was a stain on the entire rocky series that was for the most part outstanding! i heard the storyline has rambo as a resident of shady oaks nursing home and he takes the staff hostage over their choice of serving apple sauce over pudding. rambo loves pudding! in one scene, he holds an employee captive with a plastic spoon and an iv tube. :rotfl unfortunately he poops 'em without depends undergarments and the scene ends very appruptly. that wasn't in the script..he really pooped 'em. :lol can i hear a poop from the gallery?

Only up for a few days! Be quick! :chew

the movie looks a lot better than i expected. but no way will some of those shots make it into an R rated film. that guy getting shot at close range with the .50 caliber machine gun who gets turned to jello will get cut. but it looked cool....brutal, but cool.

my only real complaint is we just saw the whole movie in that trailer. we even got the hint that rambo dies.

I was thinking that same. But I can't see anyone cutting it to a PG13! :chew

I don't think it was a punch, I'm pretty sure he slit it off with a knife. I have to say, I can't believe how violent this looks compared to every other Rambo film. I'll be curious to see the plot line and how it is Rambo gets to be that aggressive.

All I can say is WOW! I am so there! Great to see Rambo back and kicking ass!!!

I almost laughed when they showed the title and the tag line "Attacking Soon." It was like an SNL sketch. I love Rambo but this looks like a parody.

I posted this in another "John Rambo" thread, but it seems appropriate here too...

Personally, the gore really bothers me, but not because it's realistic depicted. It bothers me because it makes Rambo come off looking more like a psycho who's snapped and is trying to make his victims suffer. The Rambo films were violent, yes, but this type of violence doesn't fit into a character that wants to live in peace. Cutting off heads, ripping jugulars...both kills could've been done with a knife to the heart and a snapped neck.

This borders on exploitation for me.

Of course, it's possible that the plot has Rambo completely "snapping" and losing it. But if that's the case and he has "snapped" enough in the film to lead to that much careless violence, then I don't want to see the movie. It's not exactly the heroic Rambo I know from the earlier movies.

Just my two cents.

Kinda like something that belongs in "Grindhouse", eh? :)

You are insane. ROCKY BALBOA is easily the best film in the series since Part II.

Exactly. Looks like Sly doing "Machete." "John Rambo. He's one vet you don't want to ****** with."

i'm curious as to why you think so? i had a hard time sitting through this one. maybe my expectations were too high but then i remembered a saying. you can never go home anymore. :horse

I think that was kind of the point Sly was making about going home. Here was sentimental old Rocky, lonely, trying to define himself without his beloved Adrian. He still had "stuff in the basement" to get out of his system. Rocky is haunted but he is very human in this film.

John Rambo looks to be following along something of the same formula. Old Rambo trying to live out his life reclusively and peacefully but is drawn into another war out of his instinct to fight back against those that push others around. It looks like one part First Blood, one part Rambo II and one part Rambo III meet Rocky Balboa. In other words, nothing new here for Rambo.

reading your post reminded me of godfather 3. i thought i was out but they pull me back in! unfortunately godfather 3 was another stain that should have never been made. andy garcia needs subtitles when he's speaking english. i'm positive there are thousands of great scripts out there that should be made. these guys like sly with the resources should be looking into new and fresh ideas and let the classics rest in peace.:rip

these guys should be thinking to themselves, can i make a significant contribution to the series or just a significant contribution to my wallet?

That's exactly how I feel about Live Free or Die Hard. Do we really need to see John McClane raising his kids? No, we didn't need to see that. We don't need to see old Rambo living in some village getting drawn into a Burmanese conflict either. As for Rocky, not necessary but it was a nice apology for Rocky V and was decent and entertaining so what the hell.

stallone tried this, but his last few films went straight to video. he got the hint that no one wants to see him in anything other than these roles.

he's thinking of his bruised ego more than his wallet. it's gotta be painful to be an ageing movie star. it's gotta be really painful when you were once the box office king and now your movies go straight to DVD.

So I saw the trailer, O----M----G! Gotta see this, heads and throats and exploding parts YES! My testosterone level just got so high, I got chicks on my block pregnant from just watching this! DAMN!

I think this is great. I think it's truer form in a sense to the violent novel. The older Rambo movies WEREN'T VIOLENT ENOUGH!

Seriously, it's what it's supposed to be. Explosions and blood and all that! I mean it's not like the original Rambo films (maybe 1) were heralded as some master works. Just action, this will OWN some ass!
