Well, part II is more iconic than FB, but yeah, the first is the best. I doubt the new film will be as good as FB. I hope this film is better than R4 tho.

Part 2 was one of the greatest times I ever had in the movies... But it has not aged well at all. I am not even sure I would say its a good movie. Its far better the part 3 though.

Rambo 4 was not great but easy enough to sit through and enjoy.

FB is lightning in a bottle and a film that cant be replicated due to the type of story it was.. I mean I he going to go to another town and get picked on by a sheriff?? They had to go in the direction they went. So I don't expect this to be FB quality but I hope its not as corny as part 2 or 3. I hope its a bit more fun then part 4

I think part II is good. The score is great, the action is pretty good overall, and while the plot is very simple and straight forward, it's solid for an action film. I like how the film slowly builds from stealth and low key action towards the third act climatic one man army all out attack. The film even had a "strong" female character rescuing the "macho" hero of the film. How often did you see that in the 80's? I give it credit for being so drastically different from the first film. They could have easily done a remake of the first film in a new town or something silly, but instead they made a film that was not only different, but also copied and parodied endlessly. It created the prototypical image of the shirtless muscular action hero with a big gun of the 80's. Interestingly, every Rambo sequel including the new one follows the premise of part 2, which is Rambo coming out of exile or retirement to rescue someone. In a way, part 2 was for better or worse far more influential than FB. The weakest part of part 2 and every other sequel is the lack of a great main villain, but I don't really hold that against the film or franchise. Many other franchises like Indy, John Wick, Bond, Bourne, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon..etc, didn't have memorable or great villains in the sequels.

The cartoon was based on Rambo 2 more than anything also. I love the character and the whole franchise, growing up, Rambo 2 was my favorite, then 3, as a younger viewer, I didn't appreciate First Blood as much, I appreciate it more now. So far, 4 is my most favorite, I find it to be a healthy blend of all my favorite elements from the first 3 in one movie. Curious how I'll feel about this, as I did not feel that any more stories were needed after 4, but if anyone can prove there was something more to tell I didn't expect, it's Sly, who went on to play Rocky in 3 more films I never imagined would happen.

Very true statement about the Score.. One of my all time favs..

I don't disagree about the film being so different from the first and that being a good thing..

Like I said it just has not aged well. For me anyways.. Yes it was copied and had its influence for sure but I watch it now and I just get the average action and cheesy moments.

I mean that helicopter chase is so dull. He plays dead to win.. really? I tire of just watching him shoot arrows in the air and seeing explosions and looking at a gun shooting and watching people fall.

It does have some good stuff like "Murdock... I'm coming to get you" and blowing up the guy who killed the female lead. It just has more bad then good.

But if your a fan that's cool. I was at one time also.. Huge fan. I think I told you before my experience in the theater seeing it. I don't hate it but I can't really sit through it. I respect it.. Hell I even upgraded to 4k but don't know when I'll ever feel like watching it again.

I don't know how big of a hit FB was in the theaters.. I think it got its second wind on home video and HBO.

Rambo 2 made the character a phenomenon.

First Blood was a hit, but not in the top 10. It was 13th. It made 125 mill world wide with a budget of 14 million, so it was a really big success. However, Rocky 3, which came out the same year, was the second biggest film of 1982 and made 270 mill world wide.

I guess the success of FB and later the home video and television exposure made it more popular, because just 3 years late in 85, Part 2 made 300 mill world wide and was the second biggest film of the year, while Rocky 4, which also came out the same year was the third biggest film with another 300 mill. Talk about a one-two punch. :lol

I think the more we see of footage and not just stills, the easier to accept the new look will be. On the surface, Rambo is long hair and a head band, but there's more to it, despite being the same actor with a fairly similar look, Rambo is very different from Rocky and once we get a good taste of Sly tapping into Rambo and not just being old Sly on a horse or with weapons, it'll feel like a Rambo movie, plus sure the iconic themes will return and help too.

It?s amazing how R action cinema has evolved from Rambo 2 being A-Team levels of tame to Die Hard with Mclane running on glass being considered extreme to Atomic Blonde and John Wick.

Watching FB with a packed audience 2 years ago was amazing truly a spectacular movie it really does no favors for Rambo 2 that?s for certain.

It's sometimes hard to gauge the success of a movie just going by boxoffice. Back in 1982 it seemed everyone was talking about First Blood as a great little movie but it didn't pull everyone in and picked up a lot of its fanbase on cable. Same thing happened with Die Hard. Everyone who saw it raved, but in 1988 apparently not a lot of people saw it in the theater. I mean the modest initial theatrical success is not indicative of the impact that movie had on all action movies to follow.

The reverse also happens: a movie is a break-out monster hit and yet years later people can't even watch the movie. E.T. and Avatar.

50% of that due to Mr T and "Eye of the Tiger":lecture:lol

Very true CL remains one of the best movie villains in a non crime, sci-fi or horror movie.

Super charismatic super frightening.
