Would flashy lights and 'splosions warrant a high score, despite a bloated script that's rampant with highly contrived and patronizing character monologues? Nah.

:lecture

Definitely patronizing. It's too high brow, and RIDDICK was right that it tries WAY too hard to be smart.

Well, Nolan himself tries too hard to look smart.

Haven't seen it myself but I would think since the visuals in this case are part of the experience at least that alone would grant it a couple more points.

Prometheus - 7/10

First tine watching this. Really liked the first half but once she got pregnant it went kinda all over the place.

Wasn't a fan of Holloway the hunky guy who somehow was the only one to be infected and had to have the obligatory topless abs scene for modern blockbusters. Shaw was okay but kinda wooden, David, Jarek and Vickers were the best characters.

Quite confusing. With Alien we didn't know where the aliens came from but we had a resolution with this it was left to open-ended and got too into the creation message and there were lots more unanswered question like what infected holloway?

From what I understood the Engineers created mankind then decided to create a bunch of biological weapons to unleash on mankind but were killed by those creations. But it's never explained why they wanted to destroy mankind.

The fast-track pregnancy was really poor as was the convenient surgical machine that was for some reason only programmed to work on men despite being owned by a woman and then the Alien was just left in there with no care at all.

I figured they hired Guy Pearce to de-age him later but since they killed him they should've just hired a more natural looking elderly man.

This last bit is more Of a pet-peeve. I font get other than to be all modern and fancy that they had the technology of this movie more advanced than the tech of the future movie Alien. They could've went lo-fi just as easily.

Reasonable score. I would give it an 8 if I'm in a good mood :lol

Agreed, I also quite like Shaw.

That was intentional though.

That was also intentional, that's why Shaw is going to their planet.

Well, it was programmed to work on men for Mr. Weyland, not for Vickers, and Shaw left the Alien there because she was in a hurry, no?

Yeah, seemed unnecessary, the only use they gave to his younger self was the viral campaign.

In general, I think the movie successfully projected the big picture it tried to show, but it does have a lot of little brain farts that may not be plotholes, or small plotholes that ultimately don't really affect the main plot and message, they just make you facepalm often and take away from the rest of the craftsmanship.

It seemed to set up lots of questions to be answered in sequels. Personally I prefer movies that tell a complete story, having one or two minor things to expand on in sequels is fine but too much was setting up rather than crafting a complete story for this movie
