I marked it down only due to how lengthy and slow it was, it was never for how it was directed. I did like the tension a lot in the spacewalk scenes, I just feel the pace should of been slightly faster.

The breathing makes it very claustrophobic.

I've got a friend who's getting into doing music for film and television, but is pretty much cinematically illiterate.

I've been showing him various classics of cinema, trying not to hit him over the head too hard at once - started off with Alien and Aliens, then Terminator and Terminator 2, then Robocop, then Blade Runner and 2001. Pretty soon I'm going to start dropping him off the deep end into Fritz Lang, Tarkovsky, etc and see if he survives the experience :lol

Point being he found the spacewalk scene in 2001 surprisingly upsetting for exactly the reason you mentioned. He's used to modern films where there's always noise and music of some sort going on in every scene. Amazing that we've reached a point where silence is a disturbing foreign concept to people...

It always bugs me in horror films, that there needs to be a misuse of music and it ruins the tension. Only a few get it right. As for the Spacewalks, the breathing pretty much is the score. It was pretty suffocating to watch it.

The stillness and quiet of space, is scarier than anything else.

Good man :duff

It's definitely by far the best of the PT movies - & my personal fave, for much of what you've mentioned.

I don't like any of the Gungan stuff, but JarJar's best scene was his initial encounter with the two Jedi as they land.
:duff:

Yeah the Gungan part is weird, I did like their tech and battle scenes, I have to say, they beat the ewoks, at least they have cool war tech.

Oh you're one to talk :lol

2001: A Space Odyssey - 5/10

My first, and only viewing.

Revenge of the Sith has to be my favorite. I think that Obi/Anakin Scene was just amazing. I don't care that they seem to twirl the sabers and ****; they are badass!

And AoTC is a favorite just because of Jango and the Clone battles. I was between the ages of 7-13 when I saw the prequels, so honestly action is the only reason why I really love the PT.

The Exorcist (Director's Cut) 10/10

That makes two movies I've rated as a perfect 10. AWIL and this. :lecture
