Pixels - 6/10

As a child of the same time period this movie opens in, I found myself enjoying the nostalgia and actually laughed at many of the jokes. It certainly could have been better, but it was almost refreshing for an Adam Sandler movie in that it didn't have the same lame, ultra low brow, lowest common denominator jokes.

Terminator Genisys 6/10. Plenty of things went wrong with this movie but just enough was right that I enjoyed it. They better make as many as they can with Arnold because when he's gone--so is the franchise (unless they want to pick up TSCC where they left off).

Eh. I think most people agree T:S was a better direction than what T:G delivered. I wouldn't know personally. I am not bothering watching T3 or T:G. T1 and T:S are the only two I care to revisit. T2 is a great flick. But eh. It's long and drags on. I might revisit it in 10 years or so.

Stargate - 7.5/10 What is it with modern blockbusters that make 90's B movies look so much better?

I loved the tech mixed with ancient Egyptian mythology / history in the OG Stargate - solid film. :duff

---

I just watched Revenge Of The Ninja (1983) -- 7 / 10.

Classic Sho Kosugi - awesome. That said, bad acting / dialogue & cardboard baddies as you'd expect from such a film, but the ninja combat sequences more than make up for that. :rock

No originality usually. Plus, Kurt Russell is a badass.
Probably that, and usually no character depth, this movie was bursting with both, and I liked Spader better when he was a nerd, both him and Russel in this movie strongly reminded me to Snake and Otacon :lol

And not to bag Prometheus, but SG is a better Prometheus movie than Prometheus :lol and 20 years earlier.

:duff: I'll be dammed if us humans didn't start out like that :lol

Ex Machina: 8/10
A Most Violent Year: 7/10

I saw that movie in the theaters 4 times. The most I've ever seen a movie at the theater. And every few years I watch it again and enjoy it. I'm due to see it again. Just a well crafted, well acted, straightforward sci-fi/action movie.

Just makes you wonder what happened to Devlin and Emmerich, doesn't it? Talk about falling off the rails.

I would have loved to see this in theaters, I hadn't watched this since I was a kid, I used to watch SG-1 with my dad all the time, yes, it's just a very well made sci-fi on all fronts, even the CGI holds up pretty decently.

Next is SG-1

I saw it twice in theaters, which took my by surprise a bit because I saw it the first time just for the heck of it. It was a pretty decent flick. By comparison, a couple years later I was in severe pain watching Independence Day for the second time. Didn't even bother with Godzilla...or anything else they made after, now that I think about it.

Hey, Independence Day was cool too! :lol

Pondering our origins will be a perennial pursuit - something I'm becoming more & more interested in as I get older.

No Scientology pamphlets please.
You should check the Sumerian genesis then, it's tinfoil hat stuff, but it's fun.
