I'd also suggest you watch the rest of the show, just for the lulz.
There's like laugh out loud awfulness in S8, especially the finale.
I've heard about the finale back there, had a sad...
Not sure I want to tarnish my love for first two seasons by watchin' the inferior one's.

S3 was sooo meh, I nearly died of boredom. :lol

John Lithgow was a really good villain.
I forgot he was in this!!! Lithgow is awesome, will watch. :yess:

I couldn't remember if Lithgow was 3 or 4. All I know is I stopped watching the season after because the show seemed nothing like it was when it first started.

he was 4. One was the whole murder mom mystery, two was the bayside butcher where they found the ocean graveyard, three Dexter had someone that wanted to kill bad guys too that would help Dexter cover up his murders and then 4 was the Trinity Killer, which people consider that to be the best season, I feel like it gets that because of that gut punch final scene,
I personally still like season one more.

I liked season 5 and 6, they were ok but man did Deb and Dex get weird in the end. you could watch seasons 1-4 and stop there honestly. I loved the first 4 seasons, season one is a 10/10 to me, some of the best television you could watch.

Watch at least the first season of Dexter. It's great.

I remember watching the first episode just as a lark wondering how a show about a serial killer would appeal to people, and I was hooked! I told my wife (girlfriend at the time) about it and she was very hesitant because she's squeamish, and then she got hooked! Outstanding storytelling in that first season.

The last couple of seasons of Dexter - and the last season especially - are so bad that they almost make you forget that it was ever any good at all.

If Dexter had put on a leather jacket and water-skied over a shark it wouldn't have looked out of place. In fact one of the last shots wasn't far off it.

To be honest, as good as Lithgow was, the show should've ended after season 2.

The decisions in S8 are so disjointed and nonsensical, especially the ending. There's much embarrassment to behold in that season, believe me.

I agree. Doakes was a hard act to follow.

Still my favorite scene of the show.

I still can't believe they went with that. It's probably the worst season finale I've ever seen. I didn't like the Sopranos ending at first, but now after reading between the lines, I think it's perfect.

Sopranos was ballsy but understandably frustrating to a lot of fans.

I'm a Lost fan and love that ending but I get why a lot of people don't.

The Dexter ending is like the monkey scene in Crystal Skull. You were pretty sure it wasn't going to be great, but you never thought it would get THAT bad.

Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil - hadn't seen this in years. I love a movie or show that really captures a place while telling the story and this one does it wonderfully. Plus Cusack, a Kevin Spacey that's not always screaming his face off, a fabulous tranny sidekick, and voodoo. Everything a good crime story needs!

Did you read that run-down online theorising on the meaning of the last sequence (vis-a-vis use of camera and references to earlier seasons and The Godfather? I found it pretty convincing, and I'm satisfied with that interpretation of the ending.

Yeah, I can't recall the site but they really analyze shot for shot of the final scene and make it very obvious what went down went it cut to black. I'm fully happy with the ending and if you pay attention to the vacation scene with Tony and Bobby in the boat, they tell you exactly what the ending was.

During the final scene, Tony looks up and the camera goes to his view very deliberately over and over, to hammer it home you see what's happening through his eyes. Then, it cuts to black after he looks up one more time. Even the "Member's Only" jacket guy said in the script that he walks from the bathroom to Tony's table, I assume off camera.

Yeah, that's the site. I may give it a read today.

The only symbolism that I can recall that was obvious to me was the crow showing up in the window when Christopher was getting made.
