Horrible dialogue aside...I can't look past CGI, good or bad. It's a mockery to what the original Star Wars trilogy was, and to all those involved in making it. A green screen full of cartoons will never compare to the countless hours of work put into models and miniatures used to film the original.

Won't argue with that.

The Dark Knight Rises - 7/10

Can't recall what I would have rated it last time I watched it but I think lower than this?

For some reason I enjoyed it more this time, maybe the 4th or 5th viewing - possibly due to how disappointed I've been with the new DCEU.

My most abiding criticisms are.....again...weak underwhelming action, the silly TDK suit and Bale's Batvoice which had become its own parody by this point.

Well, I really liked Hardy as Bane. I know, midget Bane, but they managed to make him look big most of the time - low angles and probably casting shorter actors as his henchmen :lol I loved his voice and his dialogue. I think he owned almost every scene he was in, very much earning his ''Boss'' walk - particularly love when he sees Batman and Catwoman escaping in the Bat and Zimmer's music is pretty damn good there.

Anne Hathaway did a pretty good catwoman and I very much enjoyed a few shots in particular of her ''Feline'' walk. :naughty

Michael Caine put in a great performance as Alfred. I know people found his crying annoying and his stance on Bruce returning as Batman to be confusing given his support and encouragement of it in the previous films however I think his change of heart was plausible in context. Given how long he'd been out and how frail he'd become Alfred just didn't want Bruce to risk it anymore, he thought Bruce might get killed this time, he had a bad feeling about it. He couldn't stop him from going back out as Batman, but he couldn't stay and watch either so he left.

I liked the Gordon/Batman scenes. Oldman was great as always. The early scene with Bruce visiting Gordon in hospital as a ''civvies'' Batman was interesting. Anyone else would be hyper curious to find out who the hell Batman was if he would just remove the balaclava but Gordon really didn't care or want to know. At least not until the very end when it appears that Batman will likely die and he finally asks him. I think the film provided a decent closure to their relationship and alliance. Yeah it makes little sense that Blake would guess who Batman was and Gordon never did but **** it.

The first fight with Bane was very dramatically impactful - seeing Batman get his ass kicked, wow - for some reason I really like the shot when Bane knocks him over the railing to the floor below with his cape fanning out. Again Bane's dialogue throughout is fantastically quotable. The second fight however doesn't live up to it and that's a real shame because we were badly in need of catharsis. It starts off bad ''no, I came back to stop you''...Holy weak verbal comeback Batman! And then the fighting itself, annoyingly edited between other scenes, visibly non-connecting punches and elbows and Batman seemingly having no new strategy. He does what really should have happened if even by accident in the first fight - dislodges the wires in Bane's mask and then a mere 3 or 4 blows later Bane is out of it and Bale's Batvoice reaches the pinnacle of it's unintentional, lisping hilarity. Even this victory is immediately undermined as Talia reveals her true nature and Batman is again at Bane's mercy...dead if not for Catwoman saving his ass. But anyway you asked what my favourite parts were - the first fight was definitely a highlight, particularly by comparison with the second.

Great soundtrack - I hadn't listened to these scores in a long time because I've kinda gotten tired of Zimmer's name on everything - but they were perfect for these films. His Batman theme destroys whatever that was for Batfleck in BvS.

You didn't like Batman's comeback/intro for the first time in many years? I thought it was a cool "return," especially with the older cop telling the rookie cop he's about to watch something "cool." Love the shot of all the cops chasing Bats and the escape with the Zimmer music.

Not A-D but........When Batman talks to himself in the Batman voice. :lol

Love the opening plane sequence.

I've always liked the dialogue that Bane rattles off to Bats in their first encounter.

I like when Bruce finally scales the wall of the prison. And also drops the ropes for the others.

The brawl when the freed cops engage with Banes army.

When Bats blasts the top of the building while carrying the bomb and the kids on the bus start cheering.

The ending montage.

And love love love soundtrack more than the other two flicks.

Srsly hate that they just didn't call Blake 'D!ck Grayson'. It would have been fine and more fitting for him to carry on as Batman.
Don't like out of shape Bats getting beat down by Bane.

The Dark Knight Rises - 7/10

The Snowman (1982)

Why oh why did I decided to re-watch this emotionally crushing movie today is a mistake I'll regret for a while. A film that gently lifts you up to the sky, suffocates you and slams you right back into the ground.

Oh, and David Bowie's in it! :rock

5/5

Fast & Furious 6: 6.5/10

They are definitely getting better with every movie. This was was very enjoyable and the cast seems to have a really good rapport. The stunts were great. I had no idea that was Gal Gadot aka Wonder Woman! Damn, she's SO skinny in this! And Gina Carano was really good.

13 Hours: Secret Soldiers of Benghazi: 7.5/10

Wow! That was incredible. Great job for Michael Bay--he seems to finally be maturing as a filmmaker, but still couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a lingering shot of a burned and tattered American Flag among the ruins in a swimming pool. Great performances from everyone. Great "action" sequences. Great pacing. Very emotional too.

Well yes and no. Seeing people's reaction to the return of the Batman was cool and all but I still have misgivings about them having Batman retired for the 8 years since TDK. Also the action in the scene was weak so that sort of let it down anyway.

Yeah, some people slag that part off but I liked it. Nice to have the occasional funny bit.

Batman Vs Superman: 7.9/10

I don't get the hate for this, it's a solid film. Much better than any film released by Marvel/Disney. It's much more dark and gritty which I think superhero films should be.

I do feel Jesse Eisenberg done a good job portraying a pyschopath but not Lex Luthor.

The too dark edge to this is what actually turned me off. Maybe even why others were too. It looked more like a real world rogue cop movie with a few super powers thrown in than a comic book movie to me.

That's where Marvel movies shine. Light hearted but with just enough serious content, heart and action to make it enjoyable and solid.

It's good there's the variety out there in this genre now though. Seems to be something for everyone.

Batman Vs. Supes - 5/10

No real desire to see this again anytime soon. Gal as WW was the best thing in it and a real surprise to me since I expected her to be a poor fit for the role.

That's funny. Your description really makes it sound appealing to me. I thought MOS was okay but action that went on for far too long, dumb decisions by characters, and uncharacteristic behavior from characters. So I skipped BvS but I'll watch it as a rental. BTW, I generally love the Marvel movies.

You may like it then, Lu. The direction they took Batman was just not for me. Loved his look though. Second best Batsuit by a long shot. And the action sequences aren't overly long and much easier to follow than in MOS.

I'll definitely be watching it. It's on my Netflix queue.
