White Christmas 10:10

Plexworthy: yup

Rewatchability: the comedy genius of Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby as a team in this film is undeniable. If you not a fan over older films, your doing yourself a disservice by not seeing this. The dance numbers are incredible , and can be appreciated by anyone once you realize they were mostly done on a single shot.

Even if your not a song and dance person, they story of Veterans helping Veterans and the reluctant love story carry this film. Its a long film, but you will get a great laugh and a nice jolt of the Christmas spirit!

Aquaman

2.5 Stars

Romancing the Raiders of the Ocean Lion King.

Willem Dafoe rides a Hammerhead Shark in this movie.

Also, Amber Heard uses red wine as wine knives.

This film is quite hard to rate. It's silly, outlandish, ridiculous... and that is to it's credit. It's fun, and I actually thought the first 45 minutes were very good. However, after this point the movie is tonally all over the place. It's almost as if James Wan didn't know what kind of movie he wanted to make, and didn't care. A lot of the comedy feels forced and falls flat, and the movie is about 20 minutes too long.

I found Jason Momoa's 'Aquabro' character to be very grating and downright infuriating in last years' abysmal 'Justice League', however I found him to be quite endearing in this. There were elements of 'Aquabro' here ("This is BADAAAZZZZ!!!"), but it definitely felt like they were aware of the criticism of his personality in 'JL' and turned it down a notch.

Patrick Wilson was a good villain, although he looks EXACTLY like Aquaman from the comics in this movie.

Rupert Gregson-Williams' score is brilliant, and would have felt right at home in a 'Blade Runner' or 'Tron' movie.

Overall, 'Aquaman' starts well, has a mess of a middle, and then has a solid final 15 minutes. It is the second best movie of the DCEU after 'Wonder Woman', but the bar is low.

True Detective Season 1 : 9/10

Thought it was great. 8 episodes so not too short and not too long for a season. Thought they left a lot of stuff open ended where if they wanted to they could get back Woody and Matthew for another season. Been hearing how great it was for a long time but never had the time to sit down and watch it.

Heard season 2 wasn't as good but we'll see. I'll give that a go over the holidays.

ROMA 8/10.. in B&W, a real slice of life from Alfonso Cuaron
also Directed Gravity,Children of Men,Y Tu Mama Tambien' and Harry Potter Prisoner of Askaban to name a few.Of course Roma is a very different type of film.. like looking out a window in Mexico in 1970.

Once Upon a Deadpool - 7.5/10

Fred Savage was great - he had fun chemistry with Ryan Reynolds. I liked when he fanboys over Cable after his reveal scene. :lol I wish they would’ve kept a lot of things they cut from the theatrical that would’ve been fine in a PG-13. They use a lot of different takes so it was a little jarring after watching the original version again last week.

Does anyone know if this is getting a DVD release?

Ralph Breaks the Internet -

Not as good as the first movie but not bad at all aside from the third act which was just silly even by Disney animated film standards.

6.5/10 without the third act, 4/10 with the third act included.

I thought Ralph Breaks the Internet was terrible. They tried to undo everything that was heartwarming about the original with absolutely stomach churning gender politics. I loved the first movie but will never watch another film from this series, and might just be done with anything Disney related that isn't SW or Marvel if they keep this crap up.

I'd recommend you to skip season 2. But it's up to you of course.

It sounds like that film is to you what Incredibes 2 was to me. :lol

My biggest issue with Ralph 2 is that there was no main "villain". Sure, there was the insecurity virus-thing, but we've seen the "heroes fight a big monster made of a bunch of little monsters" cliche done a million times before and that thing was just doing what it was programmed to do.

Ralph's insecure masculinity and toxic heroism *was* the villain. So ridiculous.

The whole third act in general was just too silly and cliched no matter who the real "villain" even was. I mainly gave it extra points because I loved The First Avenger reference during the Groot Q&A. :lol

And when I say it wasn't bad, I just mean that it wasn't a total dumpster fire like The Emoji Movie which is what I expected based on trailers.

Kind of thought it was more his neediness and insecurity that was the villain.

Movie was nowhere near as good as the original, but i didn't get an anti-Male agenda from it.

Wreck it Ralph was one of those movies that I had heard people raving about so it set me up with heightened expectations that it didn't meet. I remember finding it a bit boring actually.

The house Jack built. This movie is just Evil and scarring watch at your own risk! I dont even know what to rate except a Scarring film.
