Alien Romulus: 6.5/10: fun overall, well done score and cinematography....decent acting and story....

That all gets torn down in the 3rd act. All the goodwill and story just falls down the same cliche rabbit hole....

Sonic 3: 6.5/10

Serviceable and well made for what it is but not worth going out of your way for. Slightly better than average kids movie. My little one loved it though.

Scrooged: 7.5/10

Hadn't seen this for over 20 years. Was really good for the most part. Murray being Murray is always good. But the end was way too sentimental.

Batman Forever: 8/10

I was 11 when I saw this in cinemas and watched it so many times on VHS back in the day, so it's sort of a comfort watch all these years later.

I've recently been introducing my 10 year old son to Batman, and after loving the two Keaton/Burton films I was anxious to see what he thought of this; he loved it and was thoroughly entertained. The Burton films are technically better films, and what I picture in my mind when I think of "Batman", but Forever to me is the most entertaining from start to finish. It helps that we both love Jim Carrey haha.

Batman & Robin up next. I've never actually seen this, as I was old enough to feel the vibes of the stink around this movie when it was released. But I think with a glass of the right spirits, this will be good fun. Will report back haha

The Dead Don't Die: 4/10

I am VERY generous of this rating also. I have a belief that if a film is competently shot, acted and scored it gets at least a 3. The rest is based of plot and how well the previous 3 are done.

This is a steaming pile that honestly makes me believe it is a tax sink or payoff money to Hollywood actors and business types.

I cannot state enough how bad this is,

What makes it worse is the attempt it makes at linking society to mindless zombies ( something that been done a million times before , and in a much better way. The pretensions this director has to think he's making some sort of statement on society with this heap of nonsense show exactly how self congratulatory Hollywood can be.

How Driver, Murray, Cruz and even Austin Bulter got roped into this thing ? They must owe a favor or be being blackmailed.

I was putting together a piece if furniture and had this on for company, and even with that I barely could stand to continue to keep it on in the background:

Add in a totally nonsensical ending, with more pretense and breaking the 4th wall in the most stupid way I have ever seen.....

I am sure someone will say this is over my head, but I'd say, that person would be the exact self congratulatory pseudo intellectual this director must be.

Its like some 12 year old idea of edgy film....

God it's bad.

100% correct

Okay now I'm curious. Could you share what stupid thing they do that breaks the 4th wall? Feel free to put it in spoiler tags, otherwise there's no way I'll actually sit through this movie to find out, lol.

I’m like Kevin McAllister these holidays but without the burglars so I’m catching up on a ton of movies from my watch list:

Prey 7.5/10
My second viewing and now decided this is the second best of the series because it the simplicity of the first, has the best cinematic style since the first and unlike Romulus doesn’t constantly pander to the fans.

Challengers 8.5/10
Probably the film of 2024. Constantly inventive and stylish that always serves the story of these three characters. The three lead performances are crucial and the film could completely work as a silent film because the director and actors completely understand the relationship between the characters and the simplest body movement says so much to convey how they feel about each other. And the tennis scenes feature some of the most aggressive flourishes i have ever seen. Just dynamite.

American Fiction 7/10
I really wanted to like this more but the scenes where his writing comes to life didn’t work for me and the whole ending felt like a cop out. Still, amazing cast and Jeffrey Wright is incredible (does he ever give anything less than compelling?)

Strange Darling 7.5/10
After all the expectation of “don’t talk about it, just see it, it will blow your mind” I was kinda let down by this. Very well made but honestly I felt like I had seen it all before. I really liked Willa Fitzgerald in season one of Reacher and she is even better here. And Giovanni Ribisi of all people, does amazing camerawork in his first time out as a DP.

Purple Rain, Sign O’ The Times 8.5/10
My tradition has always been to watch Prince movies around the new year and these two while hammy and cheesy with bad acting hold a really special place in my heart. Plus the other Prince films are unwatchable. The new 4K of Purple Rain looks astounding, like a 1984 film print. The sound though, is disappointing and doesn’t sound as good as my remastered soundtrack, completely lacks any punch.

Sign O’ The Times is in a lot of ways a better film. It has those really badly acted story segments but luckily they are brief and do serve a purpose to the concert film. The concert itself is staggering, incredible music and the art direction of it all is amazing. The HD transfer on Amazon is pretty decent and I would love to see a 4K remaster of this.

I mean , if anyone cries cause of a spoiler from this turd, I will seriously fight them in gladiatorial combat:

So the scene.

The "heroes" are trapped, Drivers police man character has been saying the whole film ""This will not end well"

He and Murray's cop character are trapped in the police car surround by zombies.

Murray asks him how he knew this would "end badly" ... Driver says "It's in the script" , commence and discussion between Murray and Driver about why Murray was only given his parts of the script by the directors and why Driver got to read the whole script.... it's the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

Then they forget all that and are able to escape because a previous character , for no reason at all, turns out to be an alien and she is beamed up to her ship next to them, distracting the zombies....

I challange you to make it through this garbage....
So many stars must be on a blackmail list, or owe big money...

Poor Carol Kane ...

Can you imagine watching that in a packed theater? :lol

It almost sounds "The Room" level bad. I wonder if it will develop a following of people who enjoy it ironically.

The Eiger Sanction: 7/10

Eastwood being Eastwood is always good, and that's certainly what you get here. And mixing together a political assassination thriller with mountain climbing was an interesting move. But the story didn't resolve itself in the most satisfying way. Not sure how Eastwood could ever trust another woman after this. He did have a James bond type of attitude toward some and irrational trust in others.

After Hours: 6.5/10

Didn't really feel this one. Certainly one of the lesser Scorsese films. But it did create an effective atmosphere of paranoia and suffering for the poor shmuck of a protagonist.
