Wallace and Gromit Vengeance Most Fowl 7.5/10
Impressive that after all this time Nick Park and Aardman can still bring the goods. Not up there with the very best but a heck of a lot of fun. Gromit will always be the MVP and there is some truly gorgeous animation and production design.

Blink Twice 2/10
Truly awful.

Finally gave this a shot and wasn't overly impressed. It started pretty well and Gosling and Blunt were lots of fun together, but the action just got too ridiculous and cartoony by the end and made me stop caring about any of it.

Plus the trailers made it seem like Blunt was more heavily involved in the action, when that wasn't the case at all.

My ratings are based on did I enjoy the flick. So, yea I look to have enjoyed them both about the same. Venom movies are trash, but the Eddie and Venom buddy chemistry is fantastic. BS is good, but I honestly didn't really laugh. I mean there are things that were amusing, but it seemed tame. Maybe if I saw it 50 years ago. :dunno

Ozark - 7/10

I don't do in-depth analyses and reviews so just a quick final impression. I had been quite enjoying this show, alas the ending disappointed me. They killed off a character at the eleventh hour who I had really been hoping would live happily ever after and dammit that really soured it for me. The general conclusion also seemed abrupt and it wasn't clear to me how the Byrdes are any more homefree than they were in previous seasons.

That's a bummer. I stopped somewhere during the third season. Been meaning to get back into it, but after this review it doesn't sound like the ending would hit any different than the rest of the show.

I missed a lot of last year's series with the exception of Fallout and The Bear's third season.

Amazed I haven't seen Shogun yet, given my penchant for that setting and historical stuff in general. Even more amazed I binged Californication instead. Can't say I regret the decision. :lol It was a lonesome year and the Moody clan made for good company. Better than a warlord's, I'd imagine.

Each season may have registered differently for those who were watching it as it 'aired' but I was able to binge the whole thing. I think when you can do that you don't really notice changes in quality so much - but for that damned final episode. Like Game of Thrones, it kinda ruined the whole thing.

I haven't seen Shogun either...or Californication for that matter.

Nosferatu (2024) - 10/10

Beautiful and repulsive. A perfect gothic horror movie. I had no idea that Nicholas Hoult and Lily-Rose Depp were both such good actors.

Need the soundtrack on vinyl.

Day one Blu Ray purchase.

I felt similarly. The ending didn't seem as organic and fulfilling as I hoped it would. But I still enjoyed the show overall quite a bit.

Unfortunately I'd probably never watch it again because of how it ended. That's the effect of a sloppy landing.
On top of that, it was a pretty unpleasant show to watch with all the tension and people doing horrible things to one another. You could say the same for something like Breaking Bad or Sopranos, but those shows raised the bar for what TV storytelling is. Ozark was good, but not great, and I also don't see myself going back to it. I don't know if you've seen it, but Julia Garner also had a substantial role in a couple of seasons of the Americans. That's a show that I probably will revisit at some point.

JFK Directors Cut 4K 9/10
I adore this film. Say what you will about Oliver Stone and his polemic views but this is an exceptional piece of filmmaking and from that point of view you can’t fault it. And considering it’s 3.5 hours long this just whizzes by. I don’t think Costner has ever been better and the whole cast is just insane, another example of a film that really contributes to Seven Degrees of Bacon and I only realised on this watch that Lemmon and Matthau are both in it but never share the screen! John Williams score is amazing, sweeping one minute and then ruthlessly militaristic the next. The editing and mixed formats are probably the highlight though and are what helps you devour what is an insane information dump so easily. A masterpiece,

Poor Things 8.5/10
Um wow. Starting this film I had no idea what I had gotten my self into but as it goes on your viewing kinda becomes parallel to Bella’s journey. The less said about the story the better. Emma Stone has never been better, Dafoe is Dafoe but somehow also transcends Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo is just hysterically funny. I really have to watch more Lanthimos films now.

Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan 7.5/10
Probably my favorite adaptation that I have seen and while not perfect it’s a lot of fun with a great cast, Vincent Cassel is probably the highlight as Athos and it has decent action and considering it’s more about the story and politics and generally getting to know the characters it moves at a cracking pace. Blown away to know that there is a second film made the same year that’s just sitting there waiting for me to watch.
But my heart is still with the Richard Lester version that I saw at the cinema when I was a kid. Given some distance I am going to rewatch that.
