Look Back - 7.5/10

Only 60 minutes long but it’s a heart warming little story about friendship and grief.

Gladiator 2 – 8.5/10

Just finished this yesterday and was positively surprised by both the visuals and the new gladiator games, as well as the plot and character development. A very entertaining and suspenseful movie on its own and also a pretty decent sequel i.m.o. My only real concern was the less than perfect transitions/editing between some of the scenes (likely caused by having to shorten the original cut by almost 1.5 hours). I'm personally hoping this movie gets a heavily extended version further down the road, but even in its current format it's well worth adding to the collection. Highly recommended!...

A Quiet Place : Day One
8/10

Surprised how much I liked this, even as it was on a small screen on a cross country plane flight:

I'll give it a second watch on the big screen....but overall it was a decent prequel.

The Nice Guys: 8/10

I saw this when it first came out and I recall it disappointing me at the time, but I forgot almost everything about it, and on rewatch I loved it. Shane Black's approach worked tremendously well here, and it is a real shame that Predators was such a trainwreck that probably devalued his stock in Hollywood. Crowe and Gosling were a perfect combination, too.

Yeah love this one. Black has a new film coming out this year with Wahlberg. Fingers crossed it isn’t The Predator bad.

Good Will Hunting - 9/10
Still a really solid film with great performances all round. Robin Williams of course is just amazing. Minnie Driver is a stand out. Full of life.
The "It's not your fault" scene absolutely destroyed me.

The Holdovers - 8/10
Hey, they still make real films about people talking to each other!
A great journey about getting to know someone. Paul Giamatti is phenomenal.
"Curl your toes!"

A Serious Man - 7/10

It was good, but I didn't get it. Or maybe I did. It's not a great movie to watch when you already think life sucks.

Captain America: Brave New World - 3/10

Uninspiring action scenes. 2nd worst movie in the MCU in my opinion.

Saw this on Facebook and thought I'd field it here.

Pretty easy for me, I'd let go of The Dark Knight. Begins is better anyway.
All very solid movies (would rate all of those 8/10 or higher), and a tough choice, but it is probably Matrix for me with T2 slightly edging it out. Back to the Future is my number 1 from that list.

lol, I think I saw T2 10 times in the theater alone.....

It's really aging now, along with a slew of 80-90's films....

In comparison to the other 3 , it's holding up the worst IMO.

BTTF is a classic, very little to bother the eyes due to age, TDK, is still much newer compared to the others.

The Matrix still looks good ...and probably always will due to the alternate reality setting.

T2 , some scenes just look bad now, the entire bike chase, the scenes with anything T2 / surgery related.
Linda's acting is pretty bad, never mind how annoying Ed is.

Still a lot to like, it's not a bad film, it's just losing ground due to age.

All of these are pretty blasphemous, but I'd lose BTTF. It sticks out like a sore thumb from that group, totally different kind of movie.

I have to agree. T2 is the one to go. But if T1 was there in its place well that’s a whole different kettle of blockbusters. And yeah BTTF seems a bit oddly placed there.

You make a good point. The others are more action movies with dark undertones while BTTF is primarily a fun comedy (though you could argue that Dark Knight is the odd movie out for being the one that isn't sci-fi). Even the other posters look similar with the dark, blue tones and crappy, early photo editing in a couple of cases. Maybe Aliens would have fit better if they wanted an '80s representative.

They must have known that Terminator 1 would have never been chosen by any sane human, so I don't fault them for that.

Rewatched the Burton Batman movies in 4K the other night and I will be honest the first one just doesn’t hold up. To be fair the music is amazing, the Batmobile is amazing and that’s about it. I don’t like how they designed the city it’s such a weird hodge podge of styles, those cars stick out badly and the photography is mostly awful like they didn’t know how to shoot those huge sets. And the acting! Woof. Nicholson is having the time of his life but everyone else looks either bored or tired or both. I like Keaton in the role but I think ultimately the script is terrible especially the risible dialogue. And that’s a shame because when it works, it’s amazing. I still say that Batman’s entrance into the art gallery is his best ever in a movie. 6/10

Batman Returns on the other hand is close to a masterpiece. Hiring Daniel Waters was one of the best things they did. The dialogue in this movie is incredible especially from Penguin and Catwoman, “I’ll murder you momentarily”, “I wouldn’t touch you to scratch you”.
And it looks gorgeous. The set design is much more interesting and consistent in this one and the photography is gorgeous. The way Catwoman pops in the 4K is truly something. :)
Casting is spot on, Walken is Walken and both DeVito and Pfeiffer are truly extraordinary. Both award winning performances and they both utterly transcend the form. Keaton is Keaton but is better here with a better script. 8.5/10
