Never heard of that in my life. Still have PS1 era games that look completely fine to include the copied/burnt ones.
Yeah, some of mine are still fine as well.

Interestingly, after getting a little burnt out by the 'survival trauma' angle of the 2013 Tomb Raider game, I went back & revisited the original games & fell in love all over again. I started with Chronicles (burnt copy) & played right through without a hitch. Same with III then I. Originally when I began TRIII with that same copy years ago, it seized up on me at around the 2nd or 3rd stage somewhere. This time round, it played right through just fine.. strange.

There's apparently a glitch with the old games that if you save as you go, then try to go back & replay an area, the game bugs out & you can't progress any further, so you have to wipe your memory card & start again. It's a good thing there's numerous button code cheats that allow you to bypass that shizz. :lol

Also, the Greatest Hits edition of Silent Hill 2 on PS2 comes with an extra scenario where you play as Maria right before she meets James.
Yeah I read that on the wiki page for it I think, that's pretty cool. I've actually just started playing it, & loving it so far. The tension & build up is so thick you can cut it with a knife. :lol

Glad you like it so far. I think it's got some of the most astounding cutscenes I've seen in gaming, not to mention arguably the best OST ever.

Beat the newest doom just the other day.

I actually found it to be both familair and refreshing. Very cool blend of nostalgic game design and updated visuals. The story isn't winning any awards, but if you're playing doom you're just looking for a simple enough excuse to rip demons apart at the jaw with your bare hands anyways. If the season pass had any more story content I'd likely pick it up.

8.5/10

Half-Life - 10/10 What a masterpiece. I was long overdue for a replay.

Onto HL2 :rock

^ I've gotta check out that Half Life game, cheers for the reminder Gaspar.

Yeah thanks man. Here's a funny one for ya; at the start, I spent ages in that public loo making sure there wasn't anything to access, open or pick up. :lol

I can't believe it came out in 98, 2 years after Duke 3D, the jump, both artistically and technically, is staggering, I wish I could play the HL series for the first time again. Be sure to play the Portal games too, they're sooooo much fun.

This along with MGS and Doom are among my favorite gaming franchises.

Thanks Python. :)

Yeah it was definitely released on PS2 back in 2001, & I watched a youtube vid comparing the two. Apparently the original PC one operates more smoothly due to the higher frame rate (I can't believe I'm using this tech-y jargon now :lol), as opposed to the PS2 version. There was also apparently an option to attach a mouse & keypad type set up for it too back then.

I'm not normally that into 'first person' type games, but I have made exceptions thus far with a few games over time. I've just heard lots of praise for this one, so I'll give it a go for sure.

Resident Evil 6 as a whole - 5/10

Chris's campaign is the absolute worst thing in the series, Leon's campaign is slightly average at best but has too much Bs moments, Jake's doesn't know what it wants to be. If I had to rate Leon's I'd still give it a 5, Ada's would get maybe a 6 for being different, being solo, having a more interesting story and better purpose. But man I'm hoping we never get another game like this, ever. This game has no idea what it wants to be and I don't know why people are ok with that...

well, last game on my RE list is RE5 on PS4.

Finishing up with Half-Life 2.

Holy **** I forgot how much I loved this game, god damn everything about it is perfect, level design is exquisite, puzzles, action and platforming are perfectly organic and natural, not to mention fun as ****, sound is orgasmic, graphics are gorgeous, gameplay is godly, hhhhhhng!

I've beaten Half Life on PS2 over a decade ago, never really got a chance to play HL2. Really want to!

Half-Life 2

Holy ****, how I love this franchise, I'm afraid I can't deliver a review without sounding like a slobbering fangirl.

It's difficult to rate Episode 1 and 2 by themselves since direct immediate extensions to the story line as opposed to different points of view as the expansions of HL1, so I'm gonna lump them right with HL2, so, whatever I say about HL2, it extends to EP1 and 2, I think that's more appropriate.

I'd say this franchise is the MGS of First Person Shooters, but that'd be underselling it far too much, for starters, it's been crafted much more carefully than MGS, yet it's slicker in its storytelling, much more slick and stylish. This, without ever taking control away from the player, much like in HL1.

No, this is the Watchmen, the Akira, the 2001 of gaming, not only the FPS genre, but gaming in general, and I'm talking about the franchise as a whole, not only HL2, this is a masterpiece of the Sci-Fi genre that I think transcends just the standards of gaming, I think the story is phenomenal on its own.

The themes this franchise touches upon; higher dimensions, alien conquest, human submission, teleportation, transhumanism, etc etc... Yet with human characters and interactions that are small and intimate... Hnnnngh.

As a fan of sci-fi works of infinitely big scope, I can't praise the story enough, my imagination is going to be twitching and sparking for weeks like the first time I played through these games years ago.

Now on to the game itself, there's nothing this game doesn't do right, technically or artistically speaking, the genius design of HL1 was only more profoundly cemented by source engine's physics, in all areas; platforming, puzzles, action, etc etc, blending everything together, along with storytelling, seamlessly.

Graphics are still gorgeous due to a mix of tasteful lighting, fantastic character and world design, and eye popping effects.

Sound design is orgasmic, every explosion, every cry of a synth, every shot, background battlefield noise, everything has a very distinct, satisfying and reverberating pop.

The musical score is still pretty avant garde even for today's standards and it merges perfectly with each situation in the game, cues and triggers are so timely and the music so good, that it doesn't only enhance your immersion, you also notice the music itself.

Character design and world design have got to be some of the most original for a work of Sci-Fi ever, let alone videogames, none of that overdesigned, tacky nonsense that so usual in videogames, everything is slick, simple, and tasteful, yet complex and original upon closer inspection, from the uniforms of civil protection, to the designs of the synths (which I adore), not only the aesthetic of the Combine is alien, it looks extradimensional as well, the shapes of their buildings, tools, vehicles and weapons, it really drives home the fact that the Combine is an interdimensional empire.

Controls are perfect, there's nothing to say here, there's a reason millions still play CS to this day.

Feels like I'm rambling, and I'm not even going into detail, the only regret I have is having played EP1 and 2 again, now I'm gonna be impatient about HL3 again for months. Anyway, I could go on and on describing why these games are so great in every minuscule detail but it'd be stealing from your experience if you haven't played it, I think this gets my point across.

TL;DR: Ehh, It's ok, I guess.

Well, this is where I get off...

I rate this review a 10/10!

Isn't it just the most perfect game ever created?! :rock It really stands the test of time. I replayed a bit of HL2 Update a few weeks ago, and it was just as good as I remembered it (with prettier graphics, of course).

And yeah, Gaben needs to get behind HL3/HL2 Episode 3 already. I keep waiting for an announcement every year...

I need to play HL. I remember Sol gifted me HL2 on Steam. I do believe I have the first HL when I bought a Counterstrike pack.

I gifted you Episode 1 and gave you a link for Half-Life 2 Update - which is Half-Life 2, with an HD update. Did I mention HL2 Update is free?!

I've never got the chance play to any of the Half Life games but I always hear they're possibly the greatest games of all time. Are these games PC exclusives?

Well, the Orange Box with HL1 and HL2 was released for PS3 in 2008. The console port was pretty sub-par, though. It's better to play them on PC if you ever get the chance. The HD Upgrade for HL2 is FREE on Steam, too :lol.

The orange box didn't have the original game in it did it? I don't remember, I have them all on steam separately. It's hard not too absolutely adore everything about the franchise...

Ah damn, I only have a Mac book that I use for work. I might be able to get the orange box but I do remember reading when they released it about the sub par quality. You think it's worth it to play on PS3 or should I just wait?
