Re: Gandalf the Grey 12" in hand pics !!!

Well, I got a chance to enjoy this figure today and man...what an impressive figure this is....

That wonderful sculpt for starters...

While all the freaks who have followed the "Lord of the Rings" sixth-scale line at Sideshow are well aware that it has always proceeded at a very slow pace, when a new figure arrives, it is usually proven to be worth the wait and that most certainly is the case with Gandalf.
The great effort put into his costume and accessories along with that spot-on head sculpt by Tim Miller is just remarkable. There have been a lot of pictures from folks popping up of this figure and many are quite good, but none come close to revealing the fine detail and expressiveness present in this sculpt, especially when the figure is right in front of you.

Are there issues? A few, but none that take away from enjoying this figure. The body on the figure I received has extremely weak legs and I don't dare display him without a stand. The upper body and arms seem fine and will hold whatever pose I can come up with. Some folks are expressing disappointment that this figure doesn't feature the new "Prometheus" body that Sideshow is expected to switch over to, but...weak knees aside, the buck performs adequately for this character. The base body does not prevent this figure from displaying well and with all the care put into his outfit and that perfect sculpt, any LOTR fan would be thrilled to add this old wizard to their collection....I know I am!

I can't wait to get this figure outside for some new shots, along with those hobbits...

I'm saddened to hear that Sideshow is putting this LOTR collection "on hold".
I was late in picking up the two hobbits, but I'm glad I did....like Gandalf and the other figures from this line, they are executed with the same care and detail that makes Gandalf the Grey such a breath-taking (and we hope, temporary) conclusion to a line that has given collectors some great sixth-scale figures. Here's hoping we see the entire fellowship some day!

great words JB. cant wait for your outdoor shots. it truly is a great figure and it does look better in person. even the best pics of this guy cant prepare you for what you will see when it is in hand. it is a miniature Ian Mckellan no doubt.

Great review Jedibear!

I want to see your outdoor shots with Gandalf... maybe even amidst snowcapped peaks, whenever you get snow.

Finally got around to opening up my GtG. Absolutely stunning piece. Can't find any fault except for the loose feet. A home run for sideshow.:rock

You can share, just after like...December 15th or so haha.

I was hoping for some daylit Gandy shots being home for the weekend, but a gloomy rainy day today, hope tomorrow fairs better.

Re: Gandalf the Grey 12" in hand pics !!!

Terrific pics as always, Maulfan.

I'm not sure how many LOTR figs you have, but I'd love to see your shelf.

Question for anyone here: is your pipe bent or crooked? Is it supposed to be? Mine's a bit tweaked from sitting in that staff all the way from China. I'm sure a little heat will solve the problem but I don't want to try and straighten it if its supposed to be tweaked.

Re: Gandalf the Grey 12" in hand pics !!!

Yeah, WG, mine is the same way.
