I think that is a good reference except the eyes. The intensity isn't there. He looks too lethargic.

I think that the best way to balance the extreme look of the screaming sculpt would be the cold stare.

It's hard to get 1 reference pic to entirely model the stare after. There are tons of pics that eminate the persona or idea of the character. I'm not sure I see one yet that I'd say "copy that exactly". If there was a way to marry all of these and capture the likeness and personality(which I understand is hard), we'll have a winner

Hmm see this is the issue, its very difficult to get a good reference, and it varies from people to people... I am thinking of sending over angles and profile shots of Bale from Equilibrium because he had to play emotionless in most of the early bits of the movie... maybe thatll work.

But here the eyes dont have that cold murderous gaze... more neutral... not easy to have references man... I think itll turn out to be more focused than Cold Gaze... if thats what happens, I hope you guys will be fine with it...

No actually for angular references to get Bale distinctly, we need references from different movie or even normal life pictures. The sculptor studies all of it for getting the main likeness and takes into account whatever changes need to be made for character specificness...

as for rush... actually there is. Becuase this project is being expedited, and so that the sculpt can start as soon as the screaming one ends... the faster they have all the references in hand the better. Or else, Hyun Ji might be scheduled to another sculpt, and come back to this later...

Honestly I dont think finding a larger screen capture with such detail of the 'exact' expression is possible... so we need our resident photoshoppers to do the trick and combine what we are looking for
can anyone PS this pic

and make the stare more intense via photoshop? And while you're at it maybe remove those peel off residues of the face mask...

Personally, I think this says it all....

Yeah but like I said, there is a fish eye distortion in that picture... the chin tapers to much, the head shape is all like a balloon... so Im trying to see the movie and capture a scene from which I can get a better picture of that same expression. Because sculpting from that distorted image will give us a faulty sculpt... Im looking for a clean, large picture of that expression from a better angle and non distorted.

Axe's "morning routine" pic and J.B's end scene pic are definitely in the realm. What does everyone think about adding some anger in the eyes and face? Get the murderous look in the eyes and that scowl. Going that direction gives him a very versatile, iconic expression without it being too "neutral".
