So,
One of my 1st HT Iron man figures was the Peacemaker.
I remember holding it and immediately saying " holy smoke...this paint job is like a fine Italian car".
Its glossy paint perfection was simply mind blowing.
This continued with several future releases until recently.
When I bought my MK IX with pepper Potts I was totally taken back by it's dull satin paint job.
Loved the weathering but unlike Heart breaker that's weathered, but also gorgeous wet looking glossy perfection, this guy looked just real dull.
Now I see that the upcoming MK 45 and 46 look similar.
Is this the new " norm " for hot toys. Weathered ...but dull satin... and no more custom hot rod glossy goodness.
On the shelf, he really looks odd in comparison.
What do you all think...good.. not so much...or just don't care either way

Hot Toys doesn't just "make up" paint apps for the Iron Man suits. They attempt to emulate the look of the suit based off of whatever early renderings or concept art they're given. So if the MK46 figure isn't painted hot rod red, it's likely because it doesn't appear that way in the film:

Additionally, Tony Stark doesn't paint all of his suits the same way. Perhaps he decided Peacemaker, which is a riot-control suit, needed to be bright and visible, which is why he chose glossy orange. Whereas Striker is a heavy construction suit, so he's mostly matte gray and hazard yellow.

So no, it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I particularly enjoy seeing the variety of shades and finishes across my collection.

Because some Ironman Suit is dull red on movie screen.

Mark 3 should be dark red dull not glossy but HT made it gloss anyway

I don't remember it being that dark red dull glossy

It's not.

Also, as was said before. Hot toys attempts to match the reference material and are given paint codes used. There is no "trend" of them going dull or satin or gloss. It's about what the suit is supposed to be. Look at mk21 and mk45. Both gloss.

i think the paint jobs have been quite nice.. but personally i'd prefer a little more weathering.. not a full on battle damage type paint job.. just a few more chips and scrapes here and there, nothing major. nothing so obvious that when you looked at the figure from afar they'd be super visible.

i really loved the weathered paint job that the prototype 45 used.. i'm still happy with the way it turned out though.
