I believe it was Jun Takeuchi or something else who said, before RE5 came out, that the next game in the series would be a completely revamped game style to change it up. Hopefully they add the survival horror elements back into the game.

Darnit I hope so. Rumor is that Takeuchi won't be in charge of the next Resident Evil game. I wonder if he got booted from the franchise after RE5. The game sold fairly well though, even if critics and fans were lukewarm about it.

As for the films...I really don't think it's possible to make a good Resident Evil film. Let's all be honest here, the Resident Evil games have a terrible, convoluted and bland story. It was okay at first when it was just an homage to Romero's zombie flicks with a slight twist, but not anymore. To make a Resident Evil film that fans will love would produce a film that general audiences won't care for, and vice versa (though they failed in that regard. The RE films deviated from the RE game story, and everyone hates it).

The film series deserves a bullet to the brain, though I'm not suggesting anybody go out and assassinate Paul W.S. Anderson. Even RE: Degeneration was terrible.

I think if they had a good writer they could easily turn Resident Evil 2 or 3 into a good movie. The story is there and it is quite good it is just hard turning it into a captivating movie.

Am I the only one who thinks RE games became more action oriented because of the first movie? I have several friends who saw the movies first and then played the original PS1 games and were complaing about the lack of action. As much as I hate to say it, the movie did seem to bring a little intrest to those who hadn't played the games only to be dissapointed when the games wern't all action like the movie.

But yeah while I really love RE4 and 5, it's time to make this series survival horror again. A game can easily have plenty of action mixed with survival horror, Dead Space is a prime example and Capcom could take a few notes from EA.

It could've been one factor. At the time of the first film's release, the game series was already 4-5 games deeps, and I'd be willing to bet someone at Capcom thought the series needed a change. A faster, more action-packed change. But then again, isn't that what Devil May Cry was? That game started out as an RE title, but mutated into what we know now.

If I remember correctly Code Veroica was the newest RE game at the time the first movie was released.

I remember seeing an early concept of RE4 with Leon being chased by a ghostly looking guy in a mansion. I allways though that looked pretty cool.

Yea I remember that original Re4 stuff, looked much better.

IMO the Resident Evil "name" has sucked since Code Veronica. Seemingly taking a nosedive in not only unique story originality, but gameplay. (I know 4 was tried something new with both, but IMO no zombies =no RE)

~~~Fatso, here's the early version of what RE4 was supposed to be before they scrapped the entire project and restarted it to release what we have now.
Code Veronica is the fourth game, and the best one in my opinion.
As for the scrapped early RE4 concept, I'm glad it was cancelled. It had too many supernatural elements. Ghosts? Possessed mannequins? That's not Resident Evil.
Thats it. Thanks for the trailer hairlesswookiee!
I personally love the Over the shoulder camera of the newer games. I have a love hate relation with the older games camera. While I loved the voyeristic feel and the fact it gave you the sense you were not alone I hated turning a corner and running into a zombie.
CV/X I love the story in that one but the controls for me at least were the most awkward. It was almost impossible to run around enemies in that one.
Either is the crap in Resident Evil 4 and 5.
I wouldn't says Veronica was the best in my opinion but I really REALLY enjoyed it.
:lol well I was talking about plausibility.
I also like the over-the-shoulder camera of the new games. It doesn't take away the tension, mainly because you can't see what is behind you until it's already too late.
Anyway, the Afterlife film. It looks very bad, and it's also made in 3D, which makes it doubly bad.
Well, back to the movie. Is it really a big surprise that this looks dreadful, and that it has absolutely nothing to do with any RE game?
I believe one day we will have movies based off the games........but until then, I'm hoping for a sequel to Degeneration :rock
I think I need to rewatch Degeneration, give it another shot. At first I didn't like it.
I loved Degeneration, plus Leon's my favourite character in the series so it just makes it more awesome to me! :D
Also, it really had the RE 'game' feel to it, probably because of the CG.
It's def the only 'Resident Evil' movie in my books.
i really liked the degeneration flick. I liked the glimpses into how the world reacted to the raccoon city incident, it gave the RE-verse that extra bit of depth. Also thought the characters had some good heart to them.
O come on the early version of RE4 had you attacked by toys and dolls and a ghostly man with hooks, it had nothing to do with anything.
