I don't understand the big deal about the games length. 10 to 12 hours seems about right for a typical RE game. I beat RE4 in about 7 1/2 hours my first playthrough (and yes I explored and found about 95% of the hidden items) and most of the other RE games I averaged about 7 to 10 hours first playthrough and a good chunk of that was from trying to figure out various puzzles and backtracking.

I am going to say one thing, that executioner guy is a ^^^^^ to take out...and you encounter him first thing in the game and all you have is a pistol(berretta maybe) and a machette..this guy busts through walls to get you..the camera system is a bit anoying with your partner running along with you.

The IGN U.S. review claims 10-12 hours first playthrough. RE5 is built for multiple playthroughs and even more so if you consider Mercenaries.

I've dropped $60 for shorter games (say hello, Prince of Persia's 7 hours), I don't have any problem with RE5's playtime as long as it's a complete experience.

It's definitely not 12 hours, each level is only like 15-45 minutes, and there's only 16 levels/parts (6 chapters). I've completed 11 out of 16 and I'm only at five and a half hours. And at the end of each level it grades you on stuff like hit accuracy and how fast you complete it and I've never gotten anything above Satisfactory as far as completion time.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Well, the problem is it's around 8 hours, and I don't think I'm missing anything because you really need all the ammo and stuff so it pays to look around, but there really isn't much stuff beyond the main path.

I avoided him until the guy with the helicopter took out the gate. A couple of times I run away, like when the Lickers are attacking you're able to go into a door and get away without killing them all. Most of the time though you can't avoid the confrontations.

Do you get an achievement for taking out the executioner (guy with giant axe)? I remember killing him in the demo on my second try, but I don't know if that's an accurate representation of the weapons you'll have at that point in the full game.

I don't think so, he's on like the first level, so you don't have much more than what you had in the demo, I think I had a shotgun at that point besides the pistol, still had problems.

But you can upgrade the pistol a lot in the game and make it pretty powerful. But I wish the headshots in the game were correct--often times you shoot them in the head and they just wince, other times you shoot them and a big catipillar thing bursts out (which you have to shoot to destroy) making them stronger (so why would you want to shoot them in the head?) and sometimes you can just shoot them in the head and take them out in one shot.

It'd be pretty boring if the enemies were predictable, right?

The damage model in RE5 is location based. Try shooting an enemy in the shins or knee, and it'll stun them enough for you to run up and punch them (just like if you had shot them in the head). Chris will do a different punch depending on how you stun them. If you kill them with a punch or head stomp, the Plagas creature won't pop out of their heads.

Sounds like the Ganados in RE4. Some times you can shoot them in the head and kill em' with one shot with a handgun while others may take severall hits to head and others the Plaga comes out.

The partner help feature is pretty good when you get trapped in by lots of enemies..you press B and she comes over and spin kicks the guys away from you, its a good option, the inventory sharing is ok but, kinda lame at the same time..everything you pick up you get a menu where to put it,give it to partner,inventory box or yourself i think thats how it goes.

that's the one big thing i had a problem with in that game. headshots should either do LOTS of damage to the enemy (make the Plaga come out) or plain kill them.

Usually punching them is about as useful as shooting them.

And that's also another problem, on the bosses there's no indication on how much damage their taking, at times they'll collapse for a moment but they just get up again and they're exactly the same.

And there is a cover system (somewhat) at times you come to a place where you might be across from some enemies with machine guns or rocket launchers and it has a button prompt to get behind something.

IGN reviews the RE5 Collector's Edition content:

Limited Edition Content

The Resident Evil Collector's Edition comes with a box full of things you really don't need and probably don't want. In addition to the game itself, you'll get a bonus disc with a documentary and trailers, a messenger bag, a patch, a necklace and a figurine. All this for $89.99. Yes, you read that right.

Out of all that, the game is the only thing worth your money, and you can get that for $30 cheaper on its own. The good news is the game comes in one of those metallic cases that have become so popular lately. It's a nice, sturdy case with a slick black cover that will look nice on your shelf. The bad news is it comes with a bonus disc of features that will make your eyes cry. Included on the disc are The Making of Resident Evil 5 documentary; The Art of Resident Evil 5; and a trailer each for Resident Evil: Degeneration and Resident Evil: Extinction. All are in standard definition and all look pretty awful.

The documentary has some interesting interviews with Capcom developers such as producer Jun Takeuchi, co-producer Masachika Kawata, production director Yasuhiro Anpo and cinematic supervisor Yoshiaki Hirabayashi. Unfortunately, the quality of the documentary does not match the quality of the game. The art is also presented in standard definition and isn't sortable. It's just a collection of 109 images that you have to manually click through.

And then there are the trinkets. While I'm normally a fan of game figurines (the ladies love me), the Chris Redfield character that's included in the RE5 Collector's Edition doesn't look anything like his in-game counterpart. He looks more like Seth Green. So what's the point? Also included is a Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance patch (have fun getting through airport security with that on your jean jacket) and a light cotton "messenger bag" with the Tricell logo on it. It looks sharp enough, but it's not exactly built to last.

Rounding out the packing list is a pewter pendant in the shape of Africa that hangs from a black leather thong. And yes, Madagascar is attached. Now, not everyone can get away with sporting an Africa pendant, which hasn't stopped me from wearing it around the office. Don it at your own risk. Here's a full list of everything that's included:

* Metal case
* Game
* Bonus disc
* Tricell messenger bag
* B.S.A.A. patch
* Africa pendant
* Chris Redfield figurine

To sum up, Resident Evil 5 is a great game that's well worth your cash. But the Collector's Edition is not. It comes off as an attempt by Capcom to squeeze extra money out of fans without delivering that value that they've come to expect from the company. I'd pass on this one.

Lives up to my low expectations. I was contemplating getting the CE, but already had the regular edition paid for.
