Capcom announces a new multiplayer mode for Resident Evil 5 and WILL CHARGE US FOR IT. I hate this trend of announcing stuff that should already be on the friggin disc.

From Kotaku:

Capcom today confirmed that a new multiplayer mode will be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Resident Evil 5 in a few weeks.

The Versus mode will cost $5 on the Playstation Network and 400 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360 and pits players against each other in a contest of survival, according to Capcom.

Versus allows up to four players to match wits in online battles across two very different game types. Slayer's Rule is a point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis. In Survivor's Rule, players hunt the most dangerous game, each other! Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches for either of the two gameplay styles.

So multiplayer shooter action in a Resident Evil game confirmed. What do you think? Too close to the game's release to charge for it?

wow Capcom is really seizing the opportunity to make money on stuff that should be included with the game. first SF4 now RE. hmm... i wonder how long before this ruins their flagship titles???

Does anyone know if they fixed the crappy position of the camera?

I know someone here was playing it early. Do you still have to press forward on the left thumb stick just to see over their shoulders to actually see your targets?

Cause if they didn't fix that, this will be the first RE I won't own and play.

guess i wont be downloading that addon then. cause im gonna own both ps3 and 360 copies sooner or later and am not gonna want to pay twice for something that should be already free.

Have you played the demo? I've heard there weren't many significant changes from the demo we got last month to the final product, so I'm guessing the camera is the same.

I won't get my copy until later today.

Yes, but at least their multiplayer modes are included for free. I don't remember the last game company that charged us for an entire multiplayer mode BEFORE the full game officially released.

I'm pretty sure this new multiplayer mode will sell because it's the only competitive versus mode in the game and it's an entirely new concept for an RE game to even have competitive multiplay.

Mercenaries should be more than single player, imo. If they threw that in with the new mode, I wouldn't feel bad about spending the extra $5.

Yes, Mercenaries should have been multiplayer, but it's not. The new DLC includes a mode that is almost exactly the same concept as Mercenaries but for more than just one player.

RE5's gameplay revolves around playing with a friend (Coop), so yes, I did expect multiplayer.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad competitive multiplayer is being added, but the way Capcom is going about it sucks.
