Saw a cheap imitation BB gun of a Beretta with the S.T.A.R.S logo on the handle and S.T.A.R.S on the slide. Bought it, and it made me want to replay REmake.
That was 3 weeks ago. Since then I have played easy/normal/hard of both Chris and Jill.
Just cant put it down, going for speedruns to get unlimited rocket launcher now.
It made me realise how hard RE7 was trying but why it failed miserably for me; there was no standout atmosphere or moments.
Walking through the mansion you have the (disappearing) thunder and lightning, the music, the character walking with their weapon ready.
You can examine the environment just by stopping still, they often told a story; the dead researcher near the birdcage, the blood on walls, claw marks in the wallpaper, the researcher who hung himself. Guardhouse rooms with clothes and unmade beds. Combine it will brilliant music and it gels perfect.
Similarly the enemies. I forgot just how they varied. Yawn the snake, Fi-03 Neptune the Great White, Black Tiger the tarantula, Plant 42 and the T-002 were all bosses. You then had Zombies, Crimson Heads, MA-39 Cerberus, MA-121 Hunter, normal tarantula, bees, crows and Chimera. That is on top of the tragedy which was Lisa.
RE7 had so little enemy variation, such bland environments, such dull characters. Ethan was truly awful; I didnt care about finding Mia or his plight. There was too little character to care about.
Enemy designs and variation was awful. Atmosphere disappeared and it was just boring because it switched from trying to be REmake at the start, then being like Outlast, then trying to be SAW, then the run and gun of RE6.
It sounds silly when you think herbs/F.Aid spray heals attacks from Hunters or Crimson heads, but in REmake you try to avoid every hit.
RE7 you try to block to reduce damage, but it really took me out of the game when Ethan was getting limbs chopped off and reattached.
I couldnt help but think 'hold on, I can put my foot back on with a first aid bottle, so why does a Moulded scratch me and can kill me? Im infected, it could chop my arm off and I can reattach it no problem?'.
When I hear a hunter shriek, I know im guaranteed to be back at that menu screen because its launching my head across the room.
