RE5 it is then. I got RE0 for $11.99 so no regrets there.
I'm curious, is RE0 not scary at all? I remember not being creeped out by it at all and I find the swap and drop mechanics a bit tedious. I don't know if I'll change my mind but that's what I thought at the time.
The music in it, is definitely in the top tier. Really good ambient tracks in a lot of parts. The problem is, there's no frights in it. The zombies aren't emphasized at all. They've been pretty much relegated back to their level of threat in the PS1 version of RE. They can be dropped in the 5-8 bullets range and they don't respawn as Crimson Heads. Where as in REmake, even the regular zombies are pretty tough and ammo is scarce for shooting everything that moves.
I keep saying it, but my biggest problems with the game is this.
Next to no story at all. You don't even know what either character is thinking or what they're even trying to do. Outside of maybe three cutscenes, there's no "plot." It's only in the files you pick up.
Monster design is terrible. Mostly just big things that already exist. The Centipede, the Bat, the Grasshoppers, the Monkeys. Nothing that was engineered really aside from the Hunters and Prototype Tyrant.
The Training Facility is too similar to the Mansion and doesn't have anything memorable or strong art direction like REmake does, which to me has some of the strongest camera shots ever.
This is more of a critique from a hardcore fan, but the geography in the game is all ****ed up.
Since you're that far already Matt... did you notice it doesn't make any sense that you take the tram car underground AWAY from the facility, but the elevator in the dam somehow goes right back to the training facility? You probably took the tram car miles and miles away... but somehow it's magic. It's just a gameplay mechanic to quickly transverse to get items... but c'mon.
And also it's a contentious issue if the lab in the game is the RE2 lab or a separate lab entirely for Marcus. I believe it's the same lab, even though the files in the in the game and older games would lead you to believe there was two separate ones.
It's been a long standing debate on where the hell the Marshalling Yard in RE2/RE0 is where you use the turntable to go down into the labs. We don't know where the hell it is. Sherry said "the city limits" so I assume it's at the edge of town.
Which begs the question... how the **** did Enrico who was in the woods near the train, make it somehow down into the labs where the turntable is... then back out into the woods which is probably 5-10 miles away to the Mansion?
