I always thought that Resident Evil would be better off as a black comedy, since every time it tries to present itself as being a serious drama, it falls flat. Even RE4 knew that hence the sudden shift from the super gritty intro to the wackiness of the later chapters.

Having fun with the genre tropes is better than trying to appease everyone and fail. That's RE's problem.

RE4's campiness was sublime, This series started to suck after RE4 because they kept changing the developer teams over and over again hoping to get the same results

RE shouldn't take itself totally seriously. It's never a good thing. RE5 was awful story wise, but Wesker made things better honestly because....it's Wesker the craziness of RE4 was great too. RE3 probably succeeded a little with Nemesis due to the tension he brought. RE2 and 1 are ok in that regard. Than 6 happened and I don't even know

The boulder was more developed than Simmons in RE6. It hunted Chris and Jill back in RE1 during the tunnels section. Shoot, it even went after Leon in RE4 a couple times. Both it and Wesker died in that volcano

That was the bastard son of the original Boulder. They're building up to the epic face off when the original boulder gets cloned and returns in RE7.

I doubt you were meant to take it seriously, but at least that...made some sort of sense. Chris punching a boulder? No. Wesker's ridiculous-ness is because he's probably on nanomachines or whatever the **** he actually is on. If he punched the boulder, I would not have complained as much - because it'd have been awesome.

RE was always crazy, RE4 was still true to RE in some senses since you didn't take it totally serious except for some moments, mostly everything involving a regenerator. And it still tried to be tense and scary, not that scary, but I can still see some traces. But RE was never meant to have a really serious narrative, RE5 TRIED too hard with **** like Sheva, Chris being a brooder over Jill, Chris and Jill's war against Wesker and so on. 6 did as well. 4 didn't take itself that seriously - look at the intro after the explanation of Umbrella's fall. Kumbaya? Parking tickets?

Ive just did the shrine Puzzle in Parasite Eve 2. Ive not did it in a few years. Good god the slate puzzle in re 4 is nothing ( considering you can do the puzzle in 4 seconds ) compared to the PE 2 shrine room. Part of me is glad alot of the puzzles are taken out of modern survival horror. Finding keys for rooms ect is always fine. working out A3MEILYSY2 or whatever on a security pass code is wayyy too pace killing. I understand the challenge, but when the theme of the moment is " hurry the **** up " sitting down with a pen and paper drawing 18 images in order is kinda off putting

I loved Parasite Eve 2! I miss the pre-rendered backgrounds...
The last survival horror game with challeging puzzles was Haunting Ground

Easily one of my favourite games of the PS2 era, it was made with unused concepts of RE4 and the puzzles were a pain in the ass but so rewarding

Ive seen a few people do special " one off " videos on youtube about that game. But never actually watched a Lets Ply of it on the off chance i get around to actually doing it. Plus, isnt that where the Re 4 dog had his debut?

Yeah its still a PS2 exclusive, this game deserves the HD treatment its a lost gem of the golden age of survival horror
