Re: Ringwraith on Steed PF..Link to buy in 1st Post.

Yah, your probably right.
Early on I made a decision to not start collecting figures/statues for Middle Earth as there is SO much.
When I saw the preview for RWOS it was a day one order for me I was that impressed.
Sauron I can wait but if I only get two, these are the two to get.

I agree the magnet they used for his hand has a really strong grip and it a nice and sturdy piece.

Overall one of the best pieces from sideshow I've seen in a long time.

Re: Ringwraith on Steed PF..Link to buy in 1st Post.

So you decided to go sideshow direct rather than popculchta for your Sauron mate?

Yeah.

After having a think, the payment plan just suits me better. If the DROM was $90 shipped I'm thinking Sauron couldn't be anymore than $120 at the worst. Which is still ball park the same as popcultcha give or take $20.

I mean I could save up the cash myself but we all know that's not how it works. Next minute you see something else you like or some super discount comes up and you're buying something you never entertained until 5 minutes ago :lol

Also Popcultcha would be a lot slower on release I'd imagine since everything I ever bought from them came a good few weeks after release. Plus I get the SS points.

It was swings and roundabouts in the end but the payment plan just edged it. That way I can fly under the Radar with the wife also.... :wink1:

I hear ya man.

Might swap myself the payment plan sounds pretty good, after the DROM I kinda splurged on an eFx TIE during pop's May the 4th sale :lol.

Never intended on buying it this soon but when a discount like that comes up sometimes ya just have to seize the opportunity because who knows if it will be that low ever again...

I was hoping the droids would go down 20% - that would have been an instant purchase but it was on "in stock" only.

Believe me I had a proper good look for something I didn't want at all :lol

Re: Ringwraith on Steed PF..Link to buy in 1st Post.

Is there anyone here who would be willing to take a pic of the Rider PF with the Ringwraith LSB?

I'm considering getting the LSB and would love to see them together.

Re: Ringwraith on Steed PF..Link to buy in 1st Post.

So when are retailers supposed to be getting these?

Re: Ringwraith on Steed PF..Link to buy in 1st Post.

I'm just saying, when you sculpt something, you can get it to look how you want. Putting cloth and other materials on something just makes it look like a big doll. And sometimes the clothing is too big or doesn't look right (GTW, Frodo, Galadriel).
This PF is all kinds of awesome, it looks really impressive, but i just prefer fully sculpted statues that have a more museum-like quality to them, which is why i'm perfectly happy with my SSW ringwraith on steed statue.

Re: Ringwraith on Steed PF..Link to buy in 1st Post.

Each approach has their strengths. And I'm a huge fan of both, actually. But this piece is my favorite of all the many, many LOTR pieces I own. Just gorgeous.

Re: Ringwraith on Steed PF..Link to buy in 1st Post.

Here is my baby #293!!

Took me AGES to get the robes looking right...steamed them all first then arranged them, arranged them again, and again and again etc etc...

I'm an obsessive perfectionist and it had to look right :lol

This is the finest and most incredible piece I own without doubt..kudos to SS on this one definitely!! :clap

Sorry for pic quality guys, not got a very good camera I'm afraid...but hey, shows him off still :)

Re: Ringwraith on Steed PF..Link to buy in 1st Post.

What kind of steamer did you use? A full sized machine, or a little hand held steamer?

Yeah, I figure its going to take me a bit to get him looking right. I probably won't ever have him looking the exact way I want him to.

Its pretty darn cool. I was glad they actually had a shirt with that one on it.

I still have to play with the hood and robe but here he is...

Re: Ringwraith on Steed PF..Link to buy in 1st Post.

I used the "bathroom shower" model!! :lol

I took the seperate hooded cloak (the one that comes in the bag) and the thicker one aswell (that already comes on him,I took it off),and I hung them on my bathroom cupboard. Then,I put the 'wraith on a chair and put him in the bathroom aswell :lol

Then I turned my shower up full on high heat and shut them in there for an hour...they came out perfect!! The steam really straightened them out and that little bit of moisture helped add realism and weight to the robes.

Then, when I put the second robe back on (the one I took off which already comes draped on the figure),I made sure I used it to hide those scruffy looking inner sleeves as I pulled those back and tucked them behind his elbows and now it looks awesome!!

There's much more to it than that and everyone will have their own favourite look of course...that's the beauty of this piece!!

This is true to an extent. The thing with the statue though is they are all identical. The draw of this PF in particular is that each owner can make his/her own version - crinkled robes or smooth? Sword or hand? Dagger or Scabbard?

Whilst some members will say "this is just cloth on a horse?" we will say "I bought it because it's cloth on a horse! That's what the Dark Rider is!!"

I love both statue's and PF's but I don't really agree with the "doll" comment. I used to collect Hot Toys, I would 100% put those in the "doll" Category but PF's for the most part are a serious item. Especially ones this size. I totally get where you are coming from though.

This and Sauron put up with some nice artwork and a quality stand or shelf will look amazing in any room. In fact I love this so much I'm actually thinking of trimming all the fat off my collection to just start funding these large pieces.
