Re: Ringwraith PF?

I thought that Sideshow had hinted that a Cave Troll PF might be a possibility in one of their Q&A sessions somewhere. One of our fellow freaks did a scale breakdown and estimated it would be about the size of the Abomination PF. I could see it being a little bigger though.

A ringwraith on steed shouldn't be too hard to get a size estimate by scaling down from a real horse, but I would imagine it would be bigger and costlier than the SW speederbike. :google

It'd be much bigger than Abom. Take a look at the 1:4 scale Cave Troll helm made by Sideshow - it can easily fit a small child's head.

I think the biggest I'd be willing to go is a 1:4 scale Sauron.

SS's has talked about the issue of a Cave Troll and some horse and rider PF's in recent "Ask Sideshow" segments. Though it appears a Cave Troll dio. is more likely SS certainly hasn't closed the door on a PF.

Question:
Is there any chance - any chance at all! - that we will see horse and rider Premium Format sets or large creature PF’s (like the Balrog or Cave Troll) in the LOTR line?

Answer:
Yes, there is a chance that you might see horse and rider combinations appear within the Premium Format line, but it’s very unlikely that you would see the Balrog represented within the Premium Format line.

Question:
Since a Cave Troll is about the same size as Abomination, what are the chances of getting a Cave Troll Premium Format Figure?

Answer:
Yes, you’re right that we’re getting bolder about bringing larger characters to life in 1:4 scale. We’ve had several concepts for the Cave Troll on and off our line lists, but we will be bringing the Cave Troll back in some form. It’s too early to promise you a PF Cave Troll, but it could be possible.

Question:
Your Premium Format line is fantastic, is there any chance we will see a Cave Troll in this format? And how about a Fell Beast in Legendary Scale Bust?

Answer:
Both are excellent suggestions and do appear on our candidate rosters, but neither is currently in development.

Re: Ringwraith PF?

Thanks Woodsy for the archival search!!! :joy

I knew I wasn't crazy having read that somewhere, but the scale of these pieces would be enormous.

I would really prefer a standing wraith, maybe with an alternate Morgul dagger. I think that the line could actually support a Wraith, a Twilight Ringwraith and the Witchking (with helm and Mace goodness!) at some point. That would make for a killer detolf display.

A horse and rider would be huge, and maybe prohibitively expensive, but I could maybe convince myself to take the hit for a cave troll PF. He is such a great movie monster in the Fellowship. The SSW statue was one of my absolute favorites!!

It's like when people were asking for a Cave Troll PF. At 1:4 scale, it'd be over 6 feet tall, and way too cost-prohibitive. I'd rather they kept the PFs limited to individual characters. If I wanted horsies, Treebeard, Balrogs and trolls, I would have collected the ToyBiz line.

Listen to this guy, he's smart... :D

I just realized something.

Why can't we have a Cave Troll PF!?!?

Abomination is 16'8" Tall. A Cave Troll is 12-17' Tall. The Abomination PF was only wearing underwear, so why not a Cave Troll with a loin cloth?

If Sideshow can make an Abomination PF a Cave Troll PF is definitely doable! :lecture :rock

What say you?

Abomination PF...

23" H (584.2mm) x 24" W (609.6mm) x 20" D (508mm)

...Cave Troll could be the same.

Re: Ringwraith PF?

Did anyone from Sideshow actually say a Ringwraith is in development or are we basing everything on the vague and misleading responses we get in the Ask Sideshow Q&A.

Re: Ringwraith PF?

I think that all of this is based on the very vague words of Sideshow during a Q&A, but with so little LOTR news from them, we have to make feasts out of these little morsels!!!:lol

Re: Ringwraith PF?

Okay, still a huge nerd-thing carried over from the Cave-Troll thread, but according to Wikipedia, an average horse is 15-17 hands high, with a hand measuring roughly four inches. so if a horse was on the large side at 17 hands, it would be roughly six feet high in real life. This would make the horse at shoulder height in PF scale about 18-20 inches, but I think the real challenge (like the cave troll) is the mass of the figure and more challenging still would be adding a rider on top. I gotta get some sleep!:google

Re: Ringwraith PF?

The precedent for a Horse and Rider has been set by the Scout Trooper and Speeder Bike PF and the precedent for the Cave Troll PF has been set by the Abomination PF. Therefore, make it happed Sideshow! :wacky :joy

I think they actually confirmed this a few Ask Sideshow's back, but here is the question and answer, verbatim:

"Malice is waiting for his RINGWRAITH PF! Thank you so much Sideshow! You’ve made my year a little brighter! You can take my money now for a Ringwraith PF! Bring on the baddies!

You can hold on to your money a little longer. We are currently developing the Ringwraith PF, and it is shaping up to be a complex (and awesome) figure. Give us time, and we will give you a seriously menacing Nazgul."

just in case you missed it mate. :D

Checking out the 1st page of a thread sometimes helps Frank. :monkey3 And you ask this question right after you tell us you're smart? :naughty

Very promising news from today's [July 9th] "Ask Sideshow" segment.

Question : I know this might be a long shot, but can you shed a little light on a question a lot of us have? Is there a Ringwraith, Witchking, Saruman, and/or Mouth of Sauron Premium Formats in the works?

Answer : Yes, possibly, maybe, and not at this time, in that order. We’re paying close attention to input from the LOTR forum sections and Ask Sideshow submissions. While the LOTR release schedule has slowed a bit, we hope to deliver THE pieces that you want most.

Other than length, there's no comparing a speeder bike to a horse. A speeder is, what?...two or three feet high? A horse is easily 6 feet at the shoulder, and considerably more massive. Think average housecat made entirely out of polystone.

As for Abom, are we 100% sure it's being produced 1:4 scale, or that they're basing it on the reported height of 16'8"? Let's say a cave troll is 12 feet tall; at 1:4 scale, that's three feet standing upright. And if we go with the 17 foot height as also mentioned, it'd be over 4 feet in height in PF scale.

This is assuming, of course, that Premium Format statues are universally produced at 1:4 scale.

Re: Ringwraith PF?

Thanks for the post about the "Seriously menacing" Ringwraith! Can't wait to see what is in store.

I have to agree that as cool as a Ringwraith and Steed might be in this scale, Sam and Bill would be more feasible (sp?) and would make a classy addition to the PF line. It also might quiet some of the noise about the hobbit figures being too small or not interesting enough for this line.

By that token, Merry and Pippin as a PF two-fer would be great as well!

Re: Ringwraith PF?

I'm totally down for a hobbit two-fer.

Two-fer for Merry and Pip have been mentioned for a long time and so has completion of the Fellowship but no word from Sideshow yet. :date

It is still hoped that we get the Fellowship (by me anyways ). Maybe the big piece is Pippin at the well in Moria? That would be a big piece if not rider and steed :naughty

Re: Ringwraith PF?

Merry and Pippin at the well would be nice, but I would hope to see them at Amon Hen with their Elven daggers.
