Here's a quote from Brody about his preparation for the role...

"I know I'm not the obvious choice, I get that. I probably wouldn't have even been on the studio's list, even near the bottom. I put on 25 pounds for this role, but that wasn't the point — they didn't hire me to be a body-builder. I approached this with the kind of level of focus I would approach any of the roles that I've been given an opportunity to play... I think my intention, and the intention of hiring me to play Royce, was to delve into the kind of flawed tragic hero and not this kind of typical ... overtly physically imposing character... I did put on a substantial amount of muscle mass for the role, and the physical training was a big part of building to that character, [but it was also important] to prepare psychologically. We shot in Hawaii, and we shot in thousands of acres of tropical rainforest, and I had gotten permission from the owners of the estate to stay in the property... I didn't stay in a hotel... [Instead,] I isolated myself... My nightly ritual was poring over survival manuals and military and paramilitary training books. I was reading Sun Tzu. I was studying meditation. I was on a very strict diet. I wasn't drinking. I wasn't eating sugar. I wasn't having sex. I had to kind of go there, for me, because this was a tremendous opportunity."

*the room clears leaving A-1188 and Batfreak alone in a terrible silence*

Was that really necassary?

And yea Sabres has a point about the build and appearances. I'm quite stunned with some of the childish comments posted here. Just 7 words: It's not always about muscles and strength.

Was what really necessary? Introducing a bit of levity? I thought so. You effectively just told the guy to 'Shut Up'. I can't imagine that would go down well with him...unless you just didn't want me to draw attention to that.

However we seem to be on the same side about the Brody debate so :peace

Why the hell does physique keep coming up!? lol. It's irrelevant. Robert Patrick isn't swoll but I would find him more believable in this role than Brody. Same with Karl Urban or Eric Bana or even Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down). I just don't get a military/mercenary vibe from Brody. Sorry. And it has nothing to do with his physique because ALL the previous examples I listed (including Walter Goggins who's also in this movie) are not yolked up, Mr. Universe-like weight lifters.

Topher Grace has a more believable role. I would buy Brody in THAT role. :lol

Yup. F it now. :lol

I'm just hoping Uwe Boll directs an Aliens sequel starring Kate Winslet and Tara Reid as a Rocket Scientist.

I couldn't stand the stupidity.

Yup, sex sells, sex sells.

You buy those characters as tough guys because you have seen them as such. Once you see the actor do well in a part you can believe them in the role, thats why their actors.

Back in the day who'd have thunk that old git Murtaugh from Lethal Weapon could handle the Pred? In Predator 2 some of us must have imagined he'd say, "I'm too old for this sxxx!" And then to have that mimicked back to him by the Pred. That could have worked well on the rooftop instead of him saying, "OK Pxxxyface, it's your move!!"

BTW, Hawkins and Poncho were kinda lean and skinny too werent they in P1? Yet they were still convincing as part of a team of bad-asses.

To this day, that's still the reason I dislike him in P2, but we already had that discussion, I'll say no more:peace

Now imagine Shane Black (Hawkins) as Dutch instead of Arnold. Yeah.. pretty terrible right? If people are cool with Brody, that's fine. I'm not buying it though. Again.. has nothing to do with acting ability (as if it matters in a film like this) and it has nothing to do with physique (he's not all that skinny anyways).
