RobertoBagg10's Display Thread 'COMING SOON' SIDESHOW LOTR GANDALF PF EXCLUSIVE
Hi guys, back with another new purchase and this one was from a line that I had intended to pass on, despite being a massive Lord of the Rings fan. It was until I started seeing inhand pics of the newly released Saruman that I was totally won over by such an impressive sculpt and overall likeness to Christopher Lee...and it was this picture inparticular (posted by a fellow freak collector) that I just had to have him!!! And if I was to have Saruman then I had to get Gandalf too!!!
So upon searching the online auctions furiously for a Gandalf PF, I managed to source out an Exclusive version in Europe. Those who have been recently searching for this PF will know that the Gandalf PF has become quite a rare piece and so the secondary market value has shot up since the days of when it was first released by Sideshow. However, when you actually see this piece inhand, you begin to understand why it is such a sought after collectible.
With the great news of securing a Gandalf PF, I then was advised by fellow freak collector Hemoo that it would be a worthwhile idea to jump onto the WL for the Saruman Exclusive PF - which had sold out a while back....and within just 2 days of going on the WL, it converted!!
I couldn't have been happier. At the end of the day the Regular version would have suffice for me but there was something about the Exclusive hand that just made the piece more menacing for me and it was a great relief to see it convert so quickly
Saruman has already arrived and i'll get a short review and pics put up soon but today I wanted to concentrate on the Gandalf PF. All I can say is WOW!
What an impressive piece! At first sight on opening the box, I have to admit I wasn't immediately thinking OMG! It was more when I had begun futzing away at Gandalfs attire and tweaking things like his bag, how his sword would sit, etc...that I realised how very cool it all looked! It really is the ultimate Gandalf the Grey collectible for me and captures everything that you'd want from the character and what he represented in the movie. The clothes are done superbly with noticeable weathering to the fabric to show the effects of the long journey, particularly through the mines of Moria, from where this sculpt was taken from I believe
So many nice features on this PF that your eyes are always seeing different details each time you look at it...things like the detailing of the sword, the base is expertly painted and just adds to the overall story that the statue is telling. The light up staff is pure genius and the switch-out heads have that perfect likeness to Gandalf, more so the portrait with his hat which is just perfection.
I've been saying it to a number of my collector friends since I've owned both Saruman and Gandalf, but these two pieces are simply some of the best representations of mixed media that ive seen on any Premium Format thus far....high praise indeed but totally merited in my opinion...Thanks for looking as ever guys and here are a few pics
