Another Friday update guys and one that I've been excited to show you. Some of you may remember, back in December of last year I received my gigantic G1 Optimus Prime 1/12 statue which I was so happy to add to my collection due to being a huge Transformers G1 fan from back in the day when I used to watch the cartoons religiously as a young kid
not a vast amount of G1 statues have been made up to now...only ones I can think of are the Hard Hero ones but they were relatively small and the majority of them were busts anyway. So when I heard about this custom piece I was over the moon and was so happy to have got the chance to get number 15 of 30 made. If it wasn't for my custom Iron Man MKI 1:2 scale, this G1 Optimus Prime would have won my statue of the year 2013! Here is the link to my review and pics of when it first arrived to refresh your memories

So I think I'd mentioned back then that there were a few parts of the statue that could have been painted better plus as with various pieces in my collection, I do like to add a few touches of my own and with my Prime I really wanted it to look more animated, just like I remembered him from the cartoons
After having this in my collection for a few months I started to carefully plan out all the parts I'd like to change and once I had done so, I knew it was a job too big for me to take on not to mention how time consuming it would be so once again I sent all my specs and design ideas to my good friend and artist who does most of my repaints and he gladly accepted the challenge. So what did I have changed from the original...here is a breakdown:
* I wanted mine to have a more clean version to the body work whilst adding weathering to the feet and arms so that it blends in well with the ash-grey base
* To make the colours more vibrant and less metallic just as I remember from the cartoons, which meant everything had to get a fresh coat of paint
* Bulk out the knee area as I wasn't a huge fan of the spring knees-joints which you can see on the original as this made the leg area appear too skinny for a robot of this size
* Repaint the 22inch Plasma Gun to make it more black and glossy. The original was way too bland in colour
* Change the Autobot logo on Prime's left arm from all silver to the more accurate red with silver trimming
* Finally, and my most favourite part (cos I did this mod myself)
was to customise some G1 style windows. To be honest, when I was experimenting the colours for the windows, I was literally doing it as a trial and error process but my first attempt came out so well that I decided to go with it and thus creating those animated G1 style windows - which in my opinion is such an improvement over the original and really brings out that sense of animation
So here he is guys...my new look custom 1/12 scale G1 Optimus Prime
and just for your Steve (Darkavatar)
a comparison pic to show you the before and after changes...
and a few different fun style pics to show how cool the new colours are
All in all, I am so pleased to have finally completed this project. The statue now looks just how I always wanted it to look and I feel I have a piece of my childhood staring back at me whenever I glance at it...however, as the base was too big to ship to my friend, the job of adding some rustic weathering to the metal debris scattered around will have to taken on by me when I get some free time but its not a huge job and shouldn't take me too long. Which leads me nicely to my next arrival which is now arriving a little sooner than expected. The G1 Megatron
yep, some of you may have seen this piece already on my thread or on facebook but its soon to be shipped. Here is a pic
Mine will have a few changes made to it, for example, mine will not include the orange coloured base as I felt it wouldn't match up well with my Prime when on display so the base will now have the same colour scheme as my Prime base. Mine will also be the exclusive version which will have the torn off battle damaged Bumblebee Head which is placed in Megatrons left hand
plus what you cant see very well from that pic is that Megatron is standing on the battle damaged torso of the familiar autobot Ironhide which looks super cool! I'm still unsure as to whether to get Megatron repainted when he arrives as I still feel he should be a more grey colour from the cartoons as opposed to a silvery colour so that will also be another option once I have him inhand. Thanks again guys for looking, always a pleasure reading your amazing comments and feedback. Loads more updates to come such as my repainted Sideshow Iron Man MKVI 1:2 scale bust (CLEAN REPAINT), repainted Sideshow Hulk PF Base, Custom 3rd Battle Damaged Headsculpt for my 1/4 Predator Statue and my Jim Lee style Batman PF custom Headsculpt....all to come next week...thanks for looking guys
