Saw the movie, it was pretty great overal. Tarkin was over used, made the cgi look cartoony and weird, actually reminded me of Jim Carey as lemony snicket. Should have just been a short and sweet cameo. Deathtroopers were over hyped cannon fodder, useless. And Jyn didnt really do anything in the final act, just climbed and hit a few buttons, every other rogue was far better at making me feel something when they died
Jyn still had a huge role. Without her, they would have never found the file for the Death Star. No one knew her dad called her "Stardust", the name of the file.

I didnt say she didnt have a role, im saying she didnt do much in the final act, her and casian just walked aroumd and climbed stuff, only seemed interesting because it was really intercut with all the other action

That third act was pure awesomeness!

You're forgetting the exciting game of claw they played.

R1 indeed a fine film- Felicity way better than most give her credit for- and Edwards- all is forgiven after Godzilla!:lol

It'd be great if Disney released Edwards' original cut.

It'll never happen though and 90% of people who loved the film will never know Gilroy completely re-shot the third act.

Right. I'm hoping it's on the blu ray. If not in a Directors Cut version then at least in the Deleted Scenes/Extras.

So wait the whole last section was the part reshot???? Wonder what the original was like....we need more info but Disney won't release it-if they did on BD it would make a mint

Rewatched ROTJ this morning, few observations and questions.

Wonder why Luke never asked Obi-Wan about his mother, wasn't he the least bit interested? How about his grandmother or gasp his grandfather! Go ahead and try to explain that one Obi-Wan lol.

It's not like Obi-Wan was in a rush to leave that rock lol.

Leia and her BS that she remembered her mom being sad...unless Bail told her about her mom which is highly possible.

I can now comfortably say that the space battle in RO is better (honestly how could it not be) but the music during the ROTJ space battle is much greater and it goes along way in making it seem more epic than it really is.

So Vader holding back on Luke during their fight was because he was already conflicted?

If he was conflicted why didn't he just say "Now Luke, attack the Emperor with me!"

Because RO Vader is a beast next to ROTJ Vader.

Will the same rationale used for ANH also apply for ROTJ?

Damn prequels ruined everything.....

I always wondered why Luke never asked about his mom.........the Leia remembering her mom totally ruined after RoTS...Makes zero sense...

The continuity is like XMen timeline ....screw it

Luke, did I ever tell how I left your grandmother Shimi to rot as a slave on this planet until she was murdered by sandpeople? I really wanted to rescue her, along with your father, but the Jedi Order wouldn't allow it. The official stance on our authoritative powers was that we had no authority until given special powers. I didn't want to endanger the order so that's why we had to leave your grandmother to be raped by the Tusken Raiders until she died from internal hemorrhaging while your father held her in his arms. He then proceeded to slaughter the civilians like animals, even the children. Then he told your mom that he would become the most powerful Jedi ever and he would even stop people from dying. So what I told you was true, sandpeople do indeed march in single file, so as to hide their numbers. Unless of course they're running a train on your grandmother, raping her to death. The sand people were not very good friends.

Luke, use the force. Also, did I ever tell you about Galen Erso ? He was one of the Core's most renowned polymaths. A theoretician, a mathematician, an engineer and experimental physicist. Erso worked on manipulating Kyber Crystals, Force-attuned crystals that were at the heart of every Jedi lightsaber. He was used by the Galactic Empire to work on the Death Star, but he was never truly loyal to them. This is why he included a thermal exhaust port, a small opening on the Death Star that leads to its reactor core. He was a good friend.

Luke, this is Galen Erso. Before I died, I gave the plans showing the exhaust port to my daughter Jyn Erso, a brave woman leading a multicultural group against the white supremacist (human) organization known as the Empire. She also died to give you the plans. All you have to do now is shoot a missile into the seven foot hole that I designed so that any slightly above average pilot could do it. So don't celebrate too much when you succeed, especially since you're not even facing the real deal. In a few decades, a new Empire will rise, with a stronger Palpatine, a stronger Darth Vader, a stronger army and a stronger Death Star. It will be called the First Order. Your nephew will also kill your friend Han while you go in hiding. You're not a good friend Luke.

The OT doesn't make a lotta sense on its own, don't blame PT for not tryin' to be a fanfiction level fantasy.

I would say that all those questions (what happened to the rest of his family) would have been answered by Luke's aunt and uncle many years prior. Probably some made up story that coincided with his dad being a navigator on a spice freighter that wasn't too detailed but specific enough to give Luke enough closure to put the subject to rest. Until Ben revealed his dad's Jedi skills of course.

So Vader holding back on Luke during their fight was because he was already conflicted?

If he was conflicted why didn't he just say "Now Luke, attack the Emperor with me!"

Despite the Emperor's taunts I never really bought that if Luke struck the Emperor down that he'd instantly turn to the Dark Side. I think that if Vader helped Luke in that moment that the Emperor would indeed be dead but Vader would still have to contend with a "good" Luke that would now have an easier time of defeating the rest of the Empire. If Vader just wanted to be left alone in his castle then he needed Luke to be truly evil and keeping the Rebels at bay, day in and day out for him. Until that time Vader was better off with the Emperor alive.

On a side note we finished ANH last night. Loved seeing Leia beaming during the medal ceremony similar to how she looked when she accepted the plans. As if she knew all along and never lost faith. Very satisfying, and Tarkin's death was more rewarding than ever.

And seeing Red and Gold Leader again was so cool. Of course Gold Leader was relaxed in his Y-Wing (until Vader got a bead on him of course) after surviving Scrarif. Those six TIE's were a walk in the park! :lol But otherwise we've never seen Rebel pilots survive one battle and then die in another. They either survive and never die (Luke and Wedge) or die in the same battle they're introduced in. Very cool to finally have some carryover.

Holy crap, lolz!

That's all I can come up with, "Holy Crap, lolz!"

I guess seeing his son being made into a bacon egg and cheese finally did it lol.

Luke was a Jedi. He would not attack an unarmed man.... Except when he does....

Yeah, he was conflicted the whole fight, he couldn't let "good" win but he also didn't really want to destroy Luke and with him his only chance at replacing the Emperor with someone who won't constantly send him on errands. And of course The Emperor knew that Vader resented working for him so was all too happy to replace him with someone younger and more impressionable.

But then when he saw that Luke was getting fried and his last chance for "freedom" was really slipping away, and that the Emperor was taking such glee in the process (after ordering Vader's execution no less!) he just said "**** it," and tossed him over the railing.

I'd have that all that was obvious. Guess not. :lol
