Imagine Fellowship of the Ring but only Star Wars. :google

Disney should've hired Jackson and said "here is 600 million go make us a Star Wars movie at the level of FOTR. Make us proud, create something so special that it will be spoken about for ages."

But instead they hired Gareth, gave him half and said "here is 300 milion go make us a Star Wars movie that is better than AOTC".

Folks thought first half of R1 was boring.....Jackson woulda made Krennic's journey to find Galen the first half of the film. He and Death Troopers walking, walking and walking to the farm....nah.

Nah I don't view those LOTR movies in that manner.

Not to say what you're describing isn't a valid complaint, if anything that exact complaint has existed since the beginning but only from a vocal miniority.

The walking, their journey is part of the charm but more importantly the investment required from the audience.

For it to be epic you need a great story where the audience actually feels and experiences the beginning middle and end of their long journey.

You need to be emotionally exhausted when the characters are exhausted plus whatever other emotions are taking place, makes the pay off so much better.

I was exhausted alright. I don't need all that from a film. Life provides enough of those moments let me escape it for a few hours with a character(s) in a movie is all I need. Perspective

But but but

Personally not a fan....plenty folks wouldn't mind it but I'll pass.

I'll keep the "I thought they smelled bad on the outside" cheese please :)

I probably.liked the first half more than the 2nd. That's where we got the bulk of character development and intrigue. More Hannibal is also a good thing.
Looking at my silly photo I now firmly believe that DC should make Tom Harding Bane their Ant-Man.

A League of Shadows warrior who has the capability to shrink while retaining his mega phone voice

They wouldn't even need cgi.

What a huge hit they would have on their hands.
Yes, Hardy as the Atom. Make it so.

I enjoyed the entire movie including the first half of the film. My favorite part of a film is the character development aspect......not saying R1 did it particularly well but well enough for me to be engaged making it an enjoyable film for me.

The opening scene with whatsherfaces dad, the one where spy guy gets Intel and gets rid of the loose end, the early interaction of the robot with protagonist, I thought that was some of the more memorable stuff in the movie.

:D Seriously though, the scenes were relatively memorable, though I'm not sure I'll remember much of it in a few months' time. And that's not purely the fault of the movie in itself, but the bombardment of geek-ertainment we have access to nowadays. When I was a kid, we would see a sci-fi or super hero action type movie once, maybe twice in a given year if we were lucky. Now we get a couple a month.

4 weekends at # 1 for RO.

The movie has survived quite the onslaught of new releases, more so than TFA.

The movie is at 914 million but i'm now not so certain if it will surpass into the B club since it already opened in China and only did 60% of the business that TFA did over there.

Who am I kidding of course it will surpass the magical threshold.

Most of those earning were from Khev's repeated trips to the theater...

I hope it at least hits the billion mark. Seems like the required threshold these days for this kind of film.

Required? For?

Sucess?
A sequel? (Maybe what happened between the last shot of RO and the opening show of ANH? (Don't laugh its actually a long complicated story requiring 3 new films.
To make back initial investment?

I think they really do not have to worry about box office after a certain point.....well.....maybe.

Whats the threshold for again?
LOL

Ha, actually I just caught my third and final theatrical viewing today, which means it's tied along with ESB, ROTJ, and AOTC for the *lowest* amount of times I've seen a SW movie in the theater. But I'm good now until blu-ray.

Such a solid film from beginning to end. Not a single cringeworthy moment in it for me with maybe the exception of Leia's CGI. And speaking of Leia I was expecting it to be this bittersweet moment seeing it for the first time since Carrie's passing but I was so caught up in the Hammerhead Corvette, crashing Star Destroyers, Jyn and Cassian's final moments and then Vader's rampage that her death didn't even enter my mind when she appeared and all I could think of was "hey, there's Leia again, cool." :lol If that's not getting sucked into a movie then I don't know what is.

Good movie. I like the Blade Runner feel of the trading outpost we first meet Cassian on. It didn't occur to me before that since the Death Star vaporized the top of the Citadel Tower before striking the planet of Scarif out in the ocean that Krennic *alone* was actually taken out by the laser itself. Everyone else was just hit by the blast wave. What an "eff you" from Tarkin. :lol
