So the ES will be limited to PO numbers - but they also have "limited bodies" - limited as in 'won't be made again', or limited as in 'not a lot'?

That shop says that its a limited release (1500) and they cannot guarantee availability which is silly since Brian (the owner of ACI) said on OSW that they'll make enough to cover the pre-orders.

Guess it must be their standard verbiage for description of a pre-order, or maybe sales technique

This is too good to pass up for under $200. Easy purchase for myself as I see Crowe in the sculpt enough. The outfit alone is worth the price of admission. And hey, if a customizer knocks it out of the park with a sculpt, for an additional $100 you have the perfect Gen Maximus for under $300.

Ouch, it seems a bit expensive.
I was thinking more around 120-140...

Cotswald has it up to pre-order with TBD as price. Went ahead and reserved my PO with them.

Never thought Id ever be this excited for a non-licensed collectible before! Really cant wait to have this on my shelf!

Sales technique like that make me lose interest in company like that. Just like Hot Toys and their meaning of "Limited"

Question, since this looks so much like Maximus as he did at the beginning of Gladiator, how can they get away with that legally without lawsuits and such?

So long as it's sold as 'Roman General' and not 'Gladiator' they're on pretty safe ground I think.

Thats crazy weird. So a company can make a Hannible Lector and sell him as "Man Eater" or A Bram Stoker Prince Vlad and sell him as "Victorian Prince" or something crazy?

It works like this... Make a good unlicensed lookalike figure that people will consider buying. If those fans are smart... They don't tell noncollectors/license owners about said product/company to get more lookalike figures.

I am absolutely stunned that someone who has been on the board for so long is asking that. There are countless unlicensed figures for sale at any given moment. I am there are like three different unlicensed Selene from Underworld figures active.

Even Hot Toys started out with unlicensed likenesses. Have you really never noticed those or wondered about that huge slice of the hobby until now?

I understand that there has been "rip off/knock off" unlicensed products all over the place but they are most often not very good and/or something(s) has been changed or the likeness is slightly off as too get away with no likeness rights (Toms Forrest rings a bell)

But this looks like it could literally be a licensed product. Something this close makes me think Red Flags is all.

Actually DiD, Loading Toys, Art Figures and others have been producing licensed-quality products for years with headsculpts equal or better than this one.

There is nothing new or unusual about this product except for the complexity of the outfit, but ACI has been producing quality products for years and Roman era figures of late, so even that is part of a process.

Price is now up at Cotswald and it is $179.99. Their site also confirms that this is a Limited Edition of only 1,500 pieces.

I can understand that. I guess since I do a lot of customs I learn a lot about companies by searching through loose parts sites, even if I have no interest in the subject matter. I was just surprised that this was the first such figure to catch your eye.

Anyway I preordered mine this evening.
