Im was never all that into dragonball by any means, I grew up with Z and that will always be my favourite, (I still appreciate it for what it is though, and what it created) but that figure is looking more and more amazing honestly. Its so fluid in its posing and since they fixed the faces and colour the figure is looking far nicer.

Oh I'm right there with you. Dbz is what I grew up with so it's definitely my favorite of all the series. I didn't watch too much of the original dragon ball, but I read all the manga a few years back so I definitely have much more appreciation for it's roots than I used to. I just love how hilarious Goku is as a kid, and the events in the original dragon ball just make we want Yamcha and Tien even more.

Yeah, these 4 look ready to be pushed into production. Was Majin Vegeta shown at this event?

That face looks nothing like kid Goku, and it needs to be chubbier and smaller for Kaio's sake.

But that's probably the best we're gonna get.

Until the 2.0

Tamashii Nations isn't basing the figure off of the older art style. They're basing it off the newer art style which they nailed down really well.

The event doesn't officially open until tomorrow so we may see more reveals. They already have photos of Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Jack Sparrow from Pirates, and Darth Vader 2.0 floating around though.

The body proportions may be close to that but the head is clearly aiming to represent the early art style, especially the eyes.

The head sculpt looks nothing like the late art style.

Besides, weren't the images they used at various cons images from DB?

In any case, whatever they were aiming at as a whole figure, they failed.

I hope the old black hair, ssj hair, and ssj3 hair Goku heads would fit the new God Goku body :) I want Tenshinhan and Yamcha already, I've always wanted toys of them back in the 90s!

The photo I found was a custom made photo so it was my mistake to use that as a source but, other than the ears, everything else appears to be the newer art style. Edited: Hm, maybe a couple things as well other than the ears. Almost as a mix of both new and old.

What for?

The head in general had no intention of ever being the late art style, that's for sure.

Looks like this is what they were aiming at.

I would've rather got those body proportions.

Thanks for posting the pics Cooler, he looks much better from that second pic's angle.

I found a photo that had the similar hair style. The eyes aren't round and the head isn't as big.

Not sure why the photo is so small.

Edited: The older Kid Goku head prototype seems to have been from the earlier art style.

That really looks nothing like the figure, the hairstyle and face are closer to the pic I posted, and the body is closer to the first pic you posted.

All heads are aiming for the early Toriyama art style, they're all off, but that doesn't surprise me, only a few figures actually look like Toriyama's art style (new or old), for instance, scouter Vegeta looks absolutely nothing like he should, but that's nothing new, SHF Ranma figures don't look like the anime at all either.

I know I should just work with what we're given...

The photo I posted with Oozaru has a more similar hair style to the S.H.Figuarts with the 5 bangs with the middle one being the largest. The one you posted only had the 4 bangs with a strand of hair in the middle.

There's nothing wrong with wishing for a more accurate representation but the company makes the decision on which style they're going to produce. From there, it's either you like it or you don't. There have been many of times where I've passed on a release due to not caring for the company's interpretation of the figure.

That pic was in response to your first pic, the overall shape of hair is closer to that. This is what they're going for, I remember thinking this when they released the first pics and it had this same facial expression.

Can't see your pic clearly enough, for some reason SFF is resizing pics, but the shape of the spikes looks off in that and the style looks like late Toriyama. Can't seem to find that pic with image search.

I've been noticing the knees on the newer figures and it seems, to get the best visual, the person needs to bend the knees correctly as to not to create a large opening.

Yamcha's knees look really good because, from the viewpoint, the knees are placed correctly to give a more even flow.

Tien's left knee should be more connected with the bottom part of the leg rather than the upper part. If it were brought down more, the opening between the knee and the upper part of the leg would be hardly noticeable from that viewpoint.

My mistake! Great reference photo! I remember the first prototype being very similar to this exact photo. Especially the facial sculpting.

Yeah, I'm not sure why it was resizing it. The spikes are off in the photo with the Oozaru but it had the 5 bangs I was talking about but the photo above is a better reference photo!

Thanks again for the pictures, Cooler! Keep them coming! :lol

Yeah, the five bangs are there.

Well, Cooler put me at ease with that pic from a lower angle, looks much better from there, I can work with that.

Plus it'll still be awhile before it's released so there will also be more photos and videos to check out as well to help decide. I'm sometimes caught between getting something and not getting something but when I see video reviews or even see it in person it helps a lot to make up my mind.

Looks like Japanese market/seller are getting their hands on Kaioken Goku, a few listing are showing up from Japan on eBay.
