I've never seen actual sales numbers, the only thing I base my comments on is the fact that 1 SHF was almost cancelled and because of American interest has been revived 2 which characters sell a lot, how often I see people buying these and if so which specific characters etc and 3 how these are released here relative to Japan. Most DBZ SHF figures are web exclusives (is smaller release) in japan, whereas they're big releases in America.

Point 1 and 3 make me think Sci-Fri's right, factually. But point 3 also makes me doubt whether the American market is enough to warrant an increase in production, instead of just the continuation of the line, since we're talking a Japanese company/division here that I'd assume has it's domestic market as prime focus of their production capabilities. I'm pretty sure lines like Kamen Rider, or Sentai is more popular in Japan, especially considering how many releases it has.

So that's pretty much the only info I've thus far based my perspective on. I'd love it if American interest alone could up the production on the line, but somehow I doubt that.

No one has access to Bandai's sale numbers but Bandai. However, you can gauge how things are doing by comparing sell out times and online interest. I frequent a lot of boards, blogs, groups, etc that are not just Americans. Kamen Rider is of course extremely popular in Japan, but in American Dragon Ball is much more popular. I'm surprised Kamen Rider stuff is imported by Bluefin. It's pretty cool.

I think you're right Silrian, hopefully the movie will have a good impact long term in Japan and a new series will start. That would make everything sell stronger.

DBKai Buu saga man, set my hopes on that in terms of hype. Is there really constructive talk of a new series? And even then I think DBZ just isn't as popular in general there. To be honest, if I look at DBZ from the POV of Japanese shows and anime, it's not that exceptional either imo. Know a few different friends who frequent different anime groups and tbh, among the more hardcore anime fan crowd DBZ is rarely held to a high standard in my experience.

That's why I kinda referred to DBZ as a western foster-child.:lol Like or dislike 'm, the English versions really made it something else.

There was some rumblings but I don't think anything really came of it. The new movie gave a lot of people hope I think. I'd say it's completely up in the air as to how things will got with DB in the future.

I'm excited about DBKai being completed, that needs to happen. Get the final season out already and give us more figures, lol.

I don't know, if you look at Japan, there is still a ton of merchandise made and sold for DB. I mean, here in the US, there is no way you'd walk into a store and there would be DB statues, capsule figures, store promotions (these days), etc. I've read over the years that DB isn't huge in Japan, and that it is. I don't know really. I think it's tricky.. and is probably more down to Japanese collector culture being very hero driven. That's why villains are rarely released, and if they are they are web exclusives. So I think with toys it's a bit hard to make a line like DBZ successful there because everyone probably just wants Goku and that's it. However, DB is a whole cast of diverse heroes and villains, and you can't just keep releasing Goku over and over again like you can a new Kamen Rider or Red Super Sentai Ranger.

That thing with the Kamen Rider and Super Sentai is very true. Also, I'm excited for DBZKai finishing

I'm going go through it through a fourth time this year. I just don't want to wait so long for the uncut version, although I don't know how much is needed to be edited.

Hm yeah good point Sci, I guess even if we would see more releases, they might not at all mean more characters. Never realised that about KR and Sentai tbh.

Anyway, I for one am counting on 3-4 releases plus a possible rerelease and sdcc as a wildcard. With that in mind, I don't think we'll see a character in 2014 we haven't already seen a proto of. Only thing I expect that can change my POV now, aside from unforseen official info, is a new proto at nycc13, and I'm keeping my expectations low on that happening.

I hope they release 17 and 18 at nycc so they have 2 more slots for figures

Yeah, I collect a lot of Tamashii and Japanese stuff, and it does give you broaden your perspective. We're pretty lucky with DBZ really.

I'm not really sure, with Tamashii it's always a surprise. lol. I try to tailor myself expectations as well. I'm hoping for some good stuff at NYCC though.

No, just standard

Not going to happen; if they havent announced it by now we arent getting any, if they would have released any figure at NYCC it would have been Goku, he is the next release after krillin.

The only times we see releases are when they are announced months in advance, or at SDCC, and even then thats a month or so in advance.

At best we may see release dates for them at NYCC, but that con has never been very big reveal-wise, being so close to when they stop figure releases for the year.

Best bet is the next tamashii nations event, and after that is SDCC again, with Bluefin maybe announcing stuff before that.

I hope at nycc or the next tamashii nations event we get to hear when 17 and 18 are released and SS Vegeta rerelease confirmed

I believe the next Tamashii Nations even is November 1st, so just another month. I'm beyond excited, but not because of DBZ. lol. I feel like SDCC was pretty crap this year, so I hope Tamashii held stuff back for this event.
