Sorry but I'm in camp 4: when a product is sold out I accept that and move on (apart from of course hoping to find it some day if possible). I don't get a knockoff as a substitute because that doesn't feel like a real substitute to me. It's not a Figuarts, it's factually a physical lie and I dislike that a lot. When you cross that line into fooling yourself it devalues the whole thing. It's not at all about money, if I was poorer I still would not buy knockoffs. If I didn't have any particular figure I'd still not buy knockoffs. Because I think knockoffs suck, whatever it is, in whatever field, as long as it's not a 100% functional without any level of art or emotion attached to it, knockoffs suck imo. I wanted to state this because you didn't list this perspective, but probably did mean it toward me, among others. And I actually perceive this to be the normal perspective of a collector. Most collectors of things in general have this attitude. Ask any collector of anything, be it hot toys, coins, cars, stamps, baseballs, autographs (especially that one), comic books, purses, stuffed animals, whatever, you name it. Most collectors hate knockoffs and for multiple good reasons, be it practical, moral and/or emotional.
I'm fine with anyone begging to differ, but if you look around beyond this thread it was to be expected comments of outrage were going to be given. You really don't know the average general collector if you think it's reasonable to settle for a knockoff... In fact... it's kind of 'not done'... The majority in this thread might disagree, but the majority outside of it, I'm pretty sure, don't. The existence of auction houses is proof of it. The existence of autographs as a business is proof of it (because it isn't that hard to falsify an autograph to eye-accepting quality). The value in collecting is in the value of the object. For most people that includes it being an original. Again, differ of opinion by any means, but pro-knockoff people are the minority among collectors in general and you're really deluding yourself if you think otherwise.
