Of course they should try to shut them down, but at the same time they should be acknowledging why these bootlegs exist in the first place, and how there is a market demand that they are not meeting.

There can't be a clearer message than this whole situation for Bandai. There is money to be made, they aren't doing it, they could be. Really, if not for the lack of availability ( a reissue) we wouldn't really be having this discussion in the first place, and these bootlegs would be of only a mild interest.

I won't fault anyone for buying a cheap but decent bootleg given the alternative in this case. It's just way too much of a gap.

I have no dog in the fight due to the fact I don't have SS Vegeta, I only have SS3 Goku.

That being said I'd much rather have regular Vegeta that's available now for a decent price than buy a bootleg. Since people here are pro-bootleg and believe people are on a moral high horse due to their anti- fake views there's no argument or rational that's going to change their minds. The biggest argument I hear is that they don't want to reissue and because of that it's okay to buy bootleg because it isnt taking money directly from them. That's also false, brand protection and management has a Value and is diminished by bootlegs.

These are counterfeit and SH Figuarts should do everything in their legal power to shut them down. Just like if any other brand had this issue like Sideshow.

Here's some scholarly articles on the subject, great reads for anyone who enjoys economics:

I believe that China has no solid intellectual copyright laws, per se and keep a very lax view on policing counterfeit items. I mean why wouldn't they? Is it not economically beneficial to keep the counterfeiters in business and in China. Tamashii are going to have a very hard time taking the fight to them, especially now that money has changed hands and the product has been shipped. Such an established and lucrative company like Bandai would surely make allowances for such things as theft and counterfeiting. They're big boys! They certainly don't need us sticking up for their business’ shortfalls. The profits counterfeiters would make are a pittance to what Bandai would see in a quarter. If that doesn't suffice, they could always send for Bill Gates.

hey guys check this nice work in progress custom by Fernando Merlos

I'll post more pictures as soon as he is done with this custom.

Not yet, the distributors have placed their pre-orders already, but no clue on when they release.

For people looking for differences should make note of the following images.

9eub7.jpg
SHF-Vegeta_14.jpg

The REAL one has a very neon bright yellow hair, and white tips.
The REAL one has dark shading on his toes and down the center of this face.
The REAL one has English on the box, while the fake has only Chinese.
The REAL one has a more yellow tone to his armor pads.
The REAL one has cleaner/better closed seams along the abdomen and pelvis.
The REAL one has more supportive knees (look at the fake, see his knees bending the wrong way)

Look for these details to get the official one. And heads up don't buy without a picture of the physical product in hand, I already saw a Chinese site using Tamashii's promo pics to advertise their bootleg.

Good post, this is why this needs to be posted so people can tell the difference

Also want to give you guys a heads up on a member here who is claiming to sell DBZ figurats but instead just takes your money and never ships the item. Do not deal with Black_Dragon003

He has already scammed myself and another member on the forum

Be sure to report that guy to moderators then! I thought his plug was fishy if I remember correctly. People should also take note of the fact that as far as I can see the forum has a zero tolerance policy for selling bootlegs here. In the sales thread it can result in an immediate ban to offer a link to sell them. So if people here buy bootlegs and might wanna get rid of them later, tread carefully in offering them here.

If anything I want to know if it's possible for tamashii to rerelease web exclusives, and if not, why not? Because it seems like Tamashii is shooting themselves in the foot with this policy, if it's true. And I don't get why they'd do so.

I've always been under the impression that these are collectible action figures, not Hasbro-ish figures that are produced almost endlessly gathering dust in stores.

Yes it sucks if you missed out on your favorite characters but have patience. I'm sure we'll see a reissue or a Buu Saga Vegeta soon.

I don't mean to come off as an ******* I've just always seen the clear line in the sand when it comes to counterfeit goods. I won't even let my wife buy purses in China Town in NYC, we save up unfortunately and buy a real one. Yeah it sucks we're paying 10x much sometimes but it's real. I'd be pissed if someone was taking advantage over my property rights.

Yeah, surely if there's enough demand they must be able to wave these 'rules' about web exclusives not being reissued.... It just doesn't make sense for them not to cash in on what is clearly a figure in HIGH demand - if it wasn't then people wouldn't be paying so much for it! The scalpers must be selling them for what they're asking, or they would lower their prices....

Thanks for the comparison shots between the genuine figure and the bootleg - honestly for me this is very helpful as someone who is after a genuine SSJ Vegeta, as I really don't want to pay for what I think is a genuine SH Figuarts SSJ Vegeta, only to discover later that it's a bootleg....

I wish we could get some official word on whether or not this reissue is even possible, as all the while I grow more and more tempted by the crazy scalper prices and I know it'll be my luck that I'll take the plunge, only to check out the forum and see a reissue has been announced! This happened to me with SDCC/Manga colored Piccolo..... I literally had just tracked down and bought the manga one, fearing it's inevitable price jump, and then the SDCC one was announced that week....Oh well, I like the manga colours too :)

Can anyone remember when they made the announcement that SSJ Goku was getting a re release?

Its not bluefin that makes these rules, its tamashii. Figures are made into web exclusives when there isnt much demand for them, and that in turn means there can be only one production run of it. The dbz line has unfortunately fallen into that trap thanks to japanese buyers not being interested enough. If bluefin could persuade tamashii to release them in the west as regular releases in different boxes like what they did with the PR stuff things would be different.

The reasons stated above are why I think an sdcc14 manga colour Vegeta is the best chance of a rerelease without it specifically being the same figure.

do we know of any more figuarts to be released? I can't wait for son goku to come out!

Surely where there's money to be made though.... hopefully this will win through in the end. I also think this line has grown far more popular now than it must have been at the time, and I think people are generally more aware of it.

Apologies to everyone who already has SSJ Vegeta - this must be getting pretty tiring, but there are sadly a lot of people like me who probably only have him missing in their collection....

Maybe I've been too optimistic about a possible re release and should have picked one up earlier, however I only discovered these figures in the last year and I just find £200+ very hard to stomach, no matter how much I want it and my collection needs it lol!

I found SS Vegeta under 90$, only you have to find it in another webshop and have a good contact in Asia, I don´t give more details about that if not the demand increase and this site will be more expensive that now, but you could get original SS Vegeta under 90$ nowadays if you looking good.

I was in HK this week and saw that vegeta is selling for $2500 in Mongkok, like SDCC go ku. Trunks was like $1500.

I pretty sure tamas hi is aware of how expensive the DBZ figs are and will reissue them soon enough like SS goku. Just hang in there guys, don't be tempted to buy the bootlegs.

Exactly! I'm tempted to get SS Goku and regular Goku when it's released just in case one day I want them!

i know that Tamashii event exclusives can get a re-release as a web ex but i've never seen a web ex getting a re-release. web ex's are made per order so they're pretty much seen as the last run...

but just go nag Bluefin and show them how bad you want a re-release vegeta and see what they say/can do. :dunno

I got Krillin for Christmas too - he's a great figure! I like him WAY more than I thought I would. He does indeed look great with the others and mine is really solid, with no loose joints and a tidy paint job.

Thanks to HavokBR's awesome photo's a few weeks back I also added a Banpresto Android 16 to my collection, and I simply love the way he fits in with the figures (particularly Krillin and Gohan:))
I've given up on the possibility of a 16 figure for the time being but he's one of my favorite characters - Come on Tamashii! Give us Android's 17,18 and Buu! - We need more villains... pity they don't seem to sell as well :(

Definatly need the Android 17&18 released. Why is the news so damn slow? We need to go back to bugging Bluefin/Tamashii on Twitter.
